hello potc community! I'm interested in how people experience the fandom so I made this survey that you can and should take right now. it's 14 questions and I would really appreciate detailed answers, so it might be a bit of a time investment but it would mean the world to me! I would also really appreciate it if people could reblog this post so I can reach as many people as possible, so as to get more accurate and hopefully varied results. if this goes anywhere I'll try and compile the results somewhere and let people read

Wait ! I forgot to mention something very important about this !
There is no soundtrack called Jack and Elizabeth BUT there is one that's called Tia Dalma. And you can hear this soundtrack in Tia Dalma's house BUT ALSO hear it on the ship scene where Jack and Elizabeth kiss. The fact that this soundtrack is called Tia Dalma and it's used in those specific scenes are so symbolic ! It's not a coincidence !
youtube
Okay, okay wait !
I have a theory about Tia Dalma/Calypso.
I think she shipped Jack and Elizabeth.
For many reasons, first of all, Tia Dalma appreciate Jack a lot and when she asked him if the compass he bartered from her couldn't help him find the key and the chest, he said maybe, meaning no.
She smiled to that, because we all know that the compass shows the person who's holding it the direction of what they want most.
Which means that "Jack Sparrow does not know what he wants."
She keeps smiling and asks "Or do you know but are loath to claim it as your own ?"
Tia Dalma knows ! (I mean this woman knows everything, she even knew the name and fate of Will the very first time she saw him.)
She knows that something is at least as important for Jack than to find the key and the chest. And it's something that he's scared to claim as his own. But knowing Jack Sparrow, we know that if it was something he would already have took it,
so it's not something it's someone.
Tia Dalma then says "Your key go to a chest. And it is what lay inside the chest you seek. Don’t it?"
And at the "don't it?" she looks at Will in an almost provoking way, as if saying, the other thing, or rather the other person that Jack wants most is also someone that you'd like to claim as your own.
Oh my god! Oh my god ! I just realized THE SYMBOLISM !
"And it is what lay inside the chest you seek."
Jack is looking for a chest, the literal chest of Davy Jones to save his life BUT he might also be looking for another chest, Elizabeth's chest, not literally but you know what I mean. And that's why his compass doesn't work because he doesn't know which one he needs the most rapidly.
Secondly, I think Tia Dalma see the parallels with her love story and Jack's one.
And when she asks "You know of Davy Jones, yes? A man of the sea. A great Sailor. Until he run afoul of that which vex all men."
The great sailor was Davy Jones but also Jack because he just lived, live and will live his whole life at sea.
At this point nobody knows what vex all men (not even Will) but Jack knows and he says "A woman!" Meaning that he somehow show that he wants Elizabeth to be his.
Tia Dalma agree to what Jack said and says "A woman. He fell in love."
Gibbs then says "No no no no, I heard it was the sea he fell in love with."
Which she answers "Same story, different version and all are true. See it was a woman as changing, and harsh and untamable as the sea. He never stopped loving her."
Thirdly, I think Tia Dalma identify herself with Elizabeth.
Here Tia Dalma says that it was both an untamable woman and the sea that Davy Jones fell in love with because that's what Tia Dalma/Calypso is AND if you think about how Elizabeth is, she is also a woman as untamable as the sea, and you can see it from the very beginning.
I think that for all of those reasons Tia Dalma shipped Jack and Elizabeth and even if that wasn't obvious I think she was really supportive of their relationship.
Bonus: At the end of the movie Tia Dalma offers everyone a drink to ease the pain of the loss of their captain (Jack) and she goes to Elizabeth first because she knows she is the one who is most in pain, Tia Dalma says to her "Against the cold. And a sorrow."
I see Tia Dalma as a very protective woman, almost motherly figure to Elizabeth.
Here is a video of the scene I'm talking about.
Don't hesitate to tell me your opinions about this and I'll very gladly accept constructive criticism. :)

So I made a little analysis of the evolution of Elizabeth's outfits during the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy and here it is. (I've only analyzed the outfits that I think are the most representative of her character development in each movies.)
In the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy, costumes are an integral part of the identity of the characters, especially for Elizabeth Swann.
Indeed it is surely the character with the most developed arc of the series.
In the first film, The Curse of the Black Pearl, the story begins with Elizabeth who from a very young age has had a thirst for adventure and a lot of curiosity for pirates and their world. But Elizabeth is a lady of high society and at this time it was the duty of everyone of their rank to get married.
And it just so happens that a certain Commander Norrington would like to make his request. For the occasion, her father gifts her a dress that she loves very much, but she is not fooled and very quickly discovers her father's intentions which are to marry her.
The corset of the dress is unfortunately too small or too tight and constrains her breathing so much that she ends up fainting during the Commander's proposal.
In this I see a hidden message which is the following one: A corset is not supposed to take your breath away, however if it is not your size it could do it, just as life in high society isn't for everyone.
And in this case, the life Elizabeth wants is not that of a lady but that of an adventurer, of a pirate.
Elizabeth (literally) suffocates in high society.
In the second film, Dead Man's Chest, Elizabeth joins Jack Sparrow's crew in order to save Will Turner.
For most of the film, she will wear a traditional pirate outfit. Note that pirate clothing were unisex and that women and men wore the same type of outfits, namely an outfit suitable for fight at sea.
(Look at how chill she is.)
It is therefore no longer a question for Elizabeth to highlight her image but to integrate the crew. We see her much more at ease in this outfit, in this way of life, than in a dress and a corset in high society.
As for the third film, At World's End, Elizabeth becomes Pirate Lord and then is elected Pirate King. During this election and during the final battle of the film Elizabeth is wearing a pirate outfit, but this time not just any pirate but the King of the Pirates. This outfit surely represents the pinnacle of her development within the pirate community and her own person. She represents a strong and independent woman and above all:
she is finally FREE.
To conclude I'd say that the evolution of Elizabeth is underlined by her different outfits which highlight her status and create benchmarks over time.
Also don't hesitate to tell me what you think of this analysis, if you have something to add or whatever your opinion is I'll be glad to know about it. 😌
