I’ve been working on A Hat in Time for the past year, and now that it’s out I can finally show off my VFX reel for it!
Working on this team with all these talented people was absolutely amazing and I don’t even know where to begin about it. Plain and simple it was incredible and I hope to keep working with such awesome people.

GUESS WHAT IT’S DONE! My first animation using an actual raytracing renderer. @hyperchaotix did most of the lighting for me, and helped me out when I had to do it myself. It was a real learning experience but boy did I learn a lot!

This next effect is one I’m particularly proud of! Getting the wire to circle the way it does was pretty challenging and I’m happy it turned out as well as it did!

I’ve updated the effect based on community feedback. Now the bullets are bigger, the gunpowder isn’t as prominent, and there’s more smoke coming from the bullet impacts. Enjoy!

Little update on what I’ve been doing. I’ve been rigging that e102 Gamma model from a million years ago in Maya. I haven’t been getting a lot of time to sit down and work with it because of other responsibilities.
He’s really close to being done and I’m excited to keep showing more of this project as it goes. I’ve been more active posting about actual stuff on my Twitter, so if you wanna see stuff go check it out!

So a while back I mentioned I had been learning how to use Maya for my own work again. Well I just finished my first animation in it with actual graphics and post production!
I’m experimenting a lot with new workflows, I like Maya’s animation and rigging setup, but everything else about it is only ok. I might try out animating in Maya and exporting to a game engine or something someday so I can have fancier effects without completely destroying my ability to work.
Anyway, animating in Maya is a good time! 10/10 it wasn’t complete trash
