Final video
I wanted to express how the blind person would interact with the holder and how he/she would feel about the texture of it.

Model making
I 3d printed the model with wood filament. I had to print it in 2 parts because the model was pretty big. I will put them together and stain them with 2 different waxes

Final design
This is final design for the project. I edited the pattern on the side once more because it was still reminding me of bulls-eye before. I want to use wood like material because wood has warm and calm atmosphere in it.

Development 4
I changed the shape of texture on the side because before it reminded me of bulls-eye too much. I added circles on the curve as tactile wonder. It is an indication telling where to put the bottle. The circles get bigger as they get closer to the bottle install part.

Development 3
I added the texture on the side of the holder as a visual wonder. It is symbol of water movement when the water is dropped on the water. I found the water dripping sound very calm and i wanted to user to feel the same when they touch the texture as well. I Also changed the shape of the bottom part because when it was juts solid form i would be easy to slide instead of leaning when the user use it.

Development 2
I got rid of the hollow body and made it solid. I though when the blind people touch this holder, if there is a giant empty area, they would be confused since they have to tell what it is by touching it. I want the user to feel calm when they touch it. I upgraded barrier so the bottle would be still easy to put on the holder but stable as well.

Development 1
I decided to develop concept 3 because i think it is unique idea. I changed the curve part pointy because if it is half moon shape, it can lean too far. I also changed the barrier low to make installation of bottle easier.

Concept 3
This is a bottle (or any liquid container) holder. I helps blind people pour liquid into the cup. I know my GM was fine with pouring water in the cup, but i wanted to design something that help pour exact amount with out over flowing and without user having to concentrate too much. User will only have to lean the holder with the cup ready then the holder will lean like how rocking chair does and put the bottle in the angle.

Concept 2
This is a finger guard that helps avoiding cutting fingers when blind people are cooking. I came up with this concept because i remember when i was young, i visited GM and she wanted to cook me something, therefore she started chopping vegetables and i was worried.

Concept 1
This is spoon for blind people to help them with eating soup. I remembered that I’ve hardly ever saw my GM eating soup. I thought maybe because the soup on the normal spoon is easy to spill. This spoon has bowl-like shape that will help stopping soup from spilling. The shape on the part where the mouth interacts has lower wall so it is fine eating soup with it. On the handle it has a little circle which is the indication for spoon when the user touch it.

Idea, research
When i was thinking of the human body support, first i was thinking about my personal experience, which is ‘what kind of difficulty i faced when i was in the army?’. But soon i realised that the most of body support that i could think of is already done. Therefore i changed my view to the support for the people close to me and that’s when i thought of my grandmother(Mother side) and came up with concept of product for blind people.
My grandmother has glaucoma and lost her eye sight at when she was in early 30′s. I was going to call her for her experience and the difficulty she is facing but then i thought maybe she wouldn’t feel comfortable talking about it. So i Called my mom instead since she knows much about her (mom remembers that grandma lost her i sight when mom was about 8 years old). I knew my GM(grandmother) never uses walking stick so i asked mom if she can read braille. Mom said that to be able to read braille she needed to learn how to, same for using walking stick and walk outside alone, but back in the day, the welfare system in Korea was not good, unlike nowadays, therefore she never had chance to learn and i do remember my GM never leaving home, even for grandfather’s funeral. Then i asked if mom noticed any difficulty that GM faced while living daily life in house. She said GM was fine just like she hasn’t lost her i sight. She would still cook the same(very good foods) and do the house works as clean as before. She even chopped vegetables tidy and clear. Mom said that because she lost her eye sight after she got used to the overall shape of the house and such, therefore she was still same. I remember that she would use her hands, touching walls, when she is moving around the house but she moved around freely in the house. Mom said she would just be more careful around hot stoves and clean house extra cleaner since she can not tell how clean it is by seeing. I asked ‘what about pouring water into the cup or measuring things?’. She said GM would LISTEN to the sound and tell how much water was pour in the cup. She also said that when GM is cooking, she would SMELL and LISTEN but when she needs to measure or identify colours, she needs someone else’s help.

Final object
These are the contextual photos of final coasters. The first photo is waiter/bartender handing a jug of beer and coaster to the customer(who is getting drunk this night). Second photo is customer notice the noticing the coasters and wondering what it is. In the last photo i wanted to show the water resistance of coasters. I coated bottom of the coasters with the varnish with ashes in it and the top of the coaster with normal varnish.

Making final coasters.
I got some actual coasters to make mold of it and I made it with gelatin. I put vaselin on the surface of the mold and used method from experiment 1. I took the opportunity to use the idea of making fun of Mcdonalds and instead of using actual logo on the fries container, which is perfect shape, I made uglier logo. After i was done placing paper pieces, I started to fill the mold with the mesh mixture from experiment 2. The coasters took nearly 4 days to dry before i could get it out of mold.

Thoughts for project 3
I decided to design coasters for the final object because the product that people would most likely see when they are drinking is coaster.
Due to the plot i’m making this coasters for Mcdonalds and i came up with this plot because i like going to Mcdonalds and i do go there a lot. But when the people talk about Mcdonalds, they talk how bad it is for health and mostly bad things about it. I would like to take that opinion make fun of Mcdonalds while producing coaster for them.

experiment 4
I burnt paper bag and put it in the varnish to see the change. The varnish’s colour got darker than original.

Experiment 3
I teared paper bag and grinded in to powder with mortar and pestle. It took long time and there should be better ways to grind paper to power. Anyway, I could use it with the flour glue just like mesh but the it was weaker(durability) then mesh mixture when it was dried.
