If you are a person who wants to visit places that are worth your time, then visiting Tamil Nadu is a must. While most of the wonders you find here won’t be as impressive as the seven wonders of the world, there is one contender. That is the majestic, roaring and joyful Kanyakumari Beach.
Tumblr media
On the surface, this might seem like any ordinary beach but this beach holds the pride and the history of Tamil Nadu. This beach is magnificent and is worth checking out, from the grains of sand to the blowing winds to the burning sun and the shining moon.
The beach is surrounded by 3 great oceans like The Bay of Bengal ocean, The Arabian Sea, and The Indian Ocean. This beach shares the culture of both Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
There is a popular legend surrounding this place. This was the story between the goddess Kanya Devi and god Krishna. It was supposed to be a happy day as it was the day Kanya Devi and Krishna were getting married. But unfortunately Krishna did not attend his own marriage. The grains that were waiting to be cooked into beautiful meals were not touched upon and as days passed these grains got hard and they changed into rice. While this story might feel over the top on its own, it does explain how some of the rocks found are shaped like rice.
Another legend says that lord Hanuman dropped a piece of land at this area called the Marunthuvazh Mazhai.
The great sage Agasthya lived in this place during the ancient times,is what the people believed. After him a village called Agastheeswaram was built.

This beach also has a stunning view of the sunset and the sunrise. This is also the only place in the whole of India in which we can watch the sunset and the moon rise at the same time.
While history might feel interesting to some people, it is boring to others. But don’t worry as the beach is not only historically interesting.
This beach has many great landmarks that should be visited at least once in our life time.
1. The Thiruvalluvar Statue
Tumblr media
This is the statue of the man who created the bible of the Tamil Land.
It is 95 feet tall and stands on a 38 feet rock that represents the 38 chapters of virtue and symbolises wealth and pleasures. It shows that virtue is important to attain them as the rock sets a solid foundation to the statue. It’s combined height is 133 feet which represent the 133 chapters of the Thirukkural. This spot is as historically important as it is visually.
2. Vivekananda Rock Memorial
Tumblr media
This was built on rocks from 500 km away from Vavathurai. This whole landmark stands on 2 rocks. This was built in order to honour the late Swami Vivekananda for his incredible activities for the benifits of Tamil Nadu. He was thought to have attained enlightenment on the rocks in this memorial. This monument was made in 1970. According to the locals in that area, this was the place goddess Kumari performed austerity. There are 2 main structures inside called the Vivekananda Mandapam and the Shripada Mandapam. Both of them are magnificent pieces of architecture.
3. The Gandhi Memorial Mandapam
Tumblr media
This place was created for the incredible freedom fighter who died a tragic death. It was none other than Mahatma Gandhi. He was a great person and in order to pay respect to him, this magnificent architecture was created. Inside this Gandhi’s ashes are placed in an urn and was designed in an incredible manner that on the second of October, his birthday, the first rays of the Sun would always hit his ashes.
4. The Tsunami Memorial Park
Tumblr media
This one is quite a sad story. On 2004, there was a huge earthquake and an even bigger tsunami that started at the Indian Ocean. It sadly claimed the lives of 28000, including India, Sri Lanka, Somalia, Thailand, Maldives and Indonesia. In order to pay homage to the people who passed away, this memorial was created so that others could pay homage to it.
5. The Kamarajar Mani Mantapa Monument
Tumblr media
This monument is a great example of architecture as well as the history of Tamil Nadu. This monument was created as a homage to the late freedom fighter and chief minister, Mr Kamarajar. He was also the president of the Indian National Congress which played a huge role in the freedom of India. He was called as the bleach Gandhi among the people and this monument was made to honour him. Still to this day people come here and pay respect whole heartedly.

That’s it for the places you can visit in the Kanniyakumari beach. While the list seems short, the places are very large that you will barely finish exploring the place on time. Besides this there are also the top of the quality snacks here too in case you need to eat something. This place is a must visit and should be in the bucket list for any person.I hope this helped you in making your mind on your next tourist visit.
