FOR THE THRONE
It’s better to burn out, than to fade away...
So, after 9 long years we have come to an end. The story that inspired and cought the hearts of many, is over. There is only one episode left. There is still a mystery, still no one knows how it will all end. But you know what? I do not care anymore. All I care about now is the huge involvement of the cast and crew of GoT in bringing this amazing story to us, making us love it along with its characters and staying true to the wonderful world that George R.R. Martin created. I don’t know how to summarize it without falling into too much pathos so I will just share my own feelings with you here. Because along with sadness, there comes a feeling of relief and gratitude for the ones who made the story come alive before our eyes and love it throughout the journey.
I cannot name each one of the people I wish to thank so I will just name a few that truly inspired me in the GoT journey:
George R.R. Martin - amazing imagination and brains. I know that HIS ending of GoT will be epic
David Benioff & D.B. Weiss - although some of their ideas made me cringe and I didn’t agree with them, they made a great GoT universe so can’t deny that..
Ramin Djawadi - his amazing music carried me through these years of GoT seasons and was even more spectacular when heard live on a concert i was lucky to participate last year
ACTORS:
Lena Headey - brilliant, wonderful, beautiful actress. She WAS Cersei. I loved Cersei because of how Lena portayed her. So powerful yet so vulenrable in her final minutes. Her Walk of Shame made me love her forever. Although I know Cersei deserved it, I almost screamed inside: “Go girl, you can do it! Do not give up!”
Peter Dinklage - he got all the awards in the world, we know it. His humiliated, shamed and punished Tyrion, for just that he was born a cripple, will stay forever in our minds. Truth is that Peter had a very complex and amazing character to portray, but he did it perfectly
Aidan Gillen - ah yes, the villain. But was he really? We will never know for sure thanks to the brilliant performance by Aidan. He was a nice, elegant, quiet and cunning kind of evil. But I will never acknowlegde that he was truly bad. I miss him in season 8 but I believe that thanks to his teaching, Sansa has grown stronger. And wherever LF is, if he sees that, he is proud of her.
CHARACTERS:
Jaime Lannister - is he dead? Is he alive? So many speculations. Whatever happened, truth is that he returned to his sister, which made his whole growth senseless. Why the love scene with Brienne, why that whole developement? So he could return to Cersei and die alongside her? Stupid!
Jon Snow - short story: “I don’t want anything, please let me go of responsibility, I don’t want the Throne”
Daenerys Targaryen - The Mad Queen. I am not surprised. All her actiions led to this. And I hope she dies and never gets the Throne. Westeros doesn’t need another tyrant.
Sansa Stark - my Queen of Westeros although she will most likely remain Queen in the North. The most intelligent, skilled in politics and ruthless in it, Sansa is the best prepared person to become the ruler of the Seven Kingdoms. Question is - will she do it alone or with Tyrion by her side? Personally I am proud of her, however Tyrion saw her long ago: “Lady Stark, you may yet surprise us all”. I believe it was s2. I wish her all the best. The Starks deserve it.
This is my summary. Whatever happens tomorrow, will remain for years as the ending for the most epic TV series of all time. But there’s so much more there than just the ending. The poor king Robert, poisoned by his wife, the terrible faith of the Baratheons (ehem..Gendry??...), the Martells and Tyrells...slaughtered..And whatever Yara Greyjoy has achieved. Plus Arya and Brandon Stark. No, I don’t believe they have a further part to play. Their watch has ended.
Valar Morghulis. Valar Dohaeris.

I hated Jaime Lannister at first. Then he’s grown on me SO MUCH. His honour, his braveness and eventually his feelings for Brienne. In the recent episode they ruined all that. Eight years wasted.

Ok, but it is not stated that Cersei and Jaime are dead. Just saying.

THE LONG NIGHT - How Petyr Baelish’s dagger saved Westeros

It is not easy to write a worthy summary after such an emotional episode, but I will do my best because Episode 3 of the final season of Game of Thrones, is totally worth a deeper thought, a moment of contemplation and an excitement of anticipation for what’s next to come.
After season 7, I didn’t put my hopes up too high for the season 8. First, because I really thought that the writing got terribly bad plus the production decided to kill my favourite character in a most unfair way. But that’s in the past now, we have to look to the future, so it’s all forgotten now (but not forgiven). We have to face the inevitable war with the undead commanded by the Night King, we have to put all our differencies behind us to win that fight, and well...we still have Cersei sitting on the Iron Throne, not even thinking of joining the coalition forces. Thinking ahead: this move may prove the ruthlessness of Cersei (which we know she is), but also her cleverness. Whether Winterfell is lost or defended in the fight against the undead, the North and its allies will be VERY weakened afterwards, once Cersei has now both the Golden Company and Lannisters army (or what’s left of it). This gives her huge advantage if it comes to fighting for the Throne.
But, this post isn’t about Cersei. It’s about the Battle for Winterfell, the biggest and no doubt most impressive battle scene in the history of television. So, a few words about that. What was in my opinion its positive, and what was negative.
1. The death toll.
Eddison Tollet - the Night’s Watch Commander. That was quite expected death, he died defending Sam and I am ok with it. He played his part well in the series, I will have good memories of his presence in the story.
Lyanna Mormont - probably the most shocking loss. A little, but brave girl with a bear’s heart. She gave her life for the North but not without a fight.
Jorah Mormont - this death hurts a lot, like no other in the episode. Jorah was with us since the first episode in season 1 and somehow we all knew that if he dies, it will be for his Queen. His death wasn’t a surprise for me, but Daenerys fighting alongside with him, with just a shortsword in her hand was. And her grief was real, I felt it. And for as much I dislike the Dragon Queen, I have to say: chapeau bas Emilia Clarke, you brought tears to my eyes. And made me like Daenerys a little bit more.
Melisandre - her death doesn’t surprise me, she has done her purpose. She was a great asset in the final battle and also made Arya understand her destiny. Still, it is sad to see her go. She would have been a great ally in the final battle, but in my heart i know, that it will be not Melisandre’s fight.
Theon Greyjoy - not much to be said here. He was seeking redemption, he found it. He fought bravely and he repayed for his mistakes. The Iron Isles will be proud of their heir. Because I have no doubt that Yara will defend them from Euron’s expansion.
The Night King - What do we say to the Death? Not today!
2. What shocked me.
The Dothraki’s Fall - really, the Dothraki army’s flames going down in seconds, was an unbelievable shock. How weak they were. Or how strong was the Death.
Lyanna’s death - the way it was presented, the vision, the sounds...horrid.
Arya killing NK - well, I didn’t see that coming. A+ for the writers!
3. A few general impressions.
The music - AMAZING. Raming Djawadi should win all the awards in the world for making it, so sugestive, so climatic, so fitting to the story. And the Night King Theme is so emotionally wrenching, so deep and powerful. I still got chills.
Cinematography and editing - perfection. I don’t think there’s any TV project which would even try to compare to this. The dragon fight in the air, the whole of battle scences, the destiny of our beloved characters. It was all so well captured.
Acting - very, very good. Including Emilia. Really. I never liked her character and maybe I was biased and didn’t like the actress too. But now I see where the Globe nominations came from. Again, chapeau bas.
One last thing - this episode was imho too short part of a story to picture a war with the Night King. It was like a plot 2 since the GoT began. It should be divided into more episodes, but thats my opinion. Because it was an important thing, because if the NK wins, no Iron Throne will matter, nor the whole world. But we got what we got. Enjoy it, while it lasts.
4. About the dagger....
Yes, the infamous dagger that we got to see from time to time since season one and attempted Bran Stark assasination. What’s the story of it? How it ended up to the Night King’s ultimate ending?
The dagger is made of valyrian stell with a dragonbone hilt. It is used in s1 to assasinate Brandon Stark. Petyr Baelish states in s1 that the blade belonged once to him, he lost it to Tyrion Lannister in a debt. After betraying Ned, Baelish takes the blade to himself. Next, in Winterfell, he gives it to Bran where he responds “ chaos is a ladder” - a saying that defined Littlefinger throughout the series. Then, Bran gives the dagger to Arya Stark and she uses it to murder Petyr Baelish under the accusation of Sansa Stark. From now on the dagger is in Arya’s possesion, and eventually helps to eliminate the Night King of the Undead.
So. If there’s an underworld for Littlefinger and the likes of him, I would grin instantly now :)
That’s about it for now. It was a very intense, emotional episode. Just three left. I’m going to wait patiently. Not nervous. All my favourites are dead anyway.

When winter comes you’ll hear no lions roar. No stags grazing the fields. No roses growing in the meadows. No snakes in the sand. The krakens will freeze where they swim. The flayed men will rot and wither. No trouts swimming in the river and no falcons flying in the air. Not even the dragon’s breath will warm you in your halls.
You shall hear only the wolves howl, and then you will know.
Winter has come.
