Challengers (2024) uses the story of the Christian Bible as an allegory for being scared of, denying, and finally accepting queer love.

Specifically bisexual queer love.

That is Patrick's journey as the representation of humanity.

He also represents the Holy Spirit and Satan because that is the reality of Art's love for him being at war with his denial of it.

But he first has to fully accept his love for Tashi/Jesus (specifically a black woman) before he can handle facing the full might of Art's love. He has to open himself up to it, and to the possibility of rejection, before he can ever have the love that he knows he doesn't deserve for all that he's done.

But Art and Tashi fight for him anyways, even though it hurts them, because they love him.

They explicitly used the story of the Bible - that is why every detail makes it painfully obvious that that is what it is - to represent being scared of, denying, and finally accepting queer love.

That's why I wanna cry.

Because it's a love story.
