Entranced by this larger Pacific striped octopus? Us too. “Rediscovered” by our own Rich Ross & UC Berkeley’s Roy Caldwell in 2013 (which validated another scientist’s 22-year-old findings), its unusually social behaviors—including beak-to-beak mating—"fly in the face of nearly everything we know about cephalopods.“ Learn more: calacade.my/1N6WbRt. 📽️ by biologist Tim Wong

Here is the current progress on the tank shelf. Poor Beckett has been moved to a temporary tank, he is in bad shape and struggling and I don’t think he’ll be with me much longer… So once he actually passes I’m going to start plans on building a small community and redoing the decor in the 10 gallon.

All About Bettas: The Dimidiata Complex
Say hello to a pair of tiny little mouthbrooders known as the Dimidiata complex!
Betta dimidiata This species seems to be most commonly found in the upper portion of the Kapuas drainage, in Borneo. They inhabit shallow streams, with tannins and a slightly acidic (5.0-6.5) pH. Dimidiata is latin for diminished, a reference to their small size. They are only 35-40 millimeters! img src
Betta krataios Krataios means strong or sturdy, in reference to the somewhat stocky build of this fish. It is mostly known in the lower portion of the Kapuas river basin. They like a pH of 5.0-7.0, though in general a middle number is better. They live in shaded streams, swamps, and pools, with a leaf litter substrate. img src
