so i've been studying japanese for over 3 months now. started with genki in the classroom and then picked up minna no nihongo for self study after said classes were done. and i gotta say... as a self learner it's kinda hard to stick to mnn fully. i can definitely see now why a lot of self learners prefer genki because it is a lot friendlier even if you don't have a tutor (and especially if you're learning from scratch all by yourself) :’) however i still prefer mnn because it's more concise in its explanations and just gets straight to the point most of the time (suits my learning method more), but it can definitely feel dry and a bit.. idk inadequate ig without a tutor or a professor to guide me and supplement my learnings with additional context. maybe i'll continue to pursue genki and use both textbooks side by side.

No matter how busy you may think you are, you must find time for reading, or surrender yourself to self-chosen ignorance.
