On twitter I’m seeing dozens of threads from Black activists warning people against burnout, giving all sorts of useful tips about preventing and managing it for the sake of a long-term, sustainable effort.

On tumblr I’m seeing a hell of a lot of young white kids yelling at anyone who actually follows those steps, and acting like burnout is a moral falling rather than a well-proven psychological phenomenon.

Be careful who you get your information from. Don’t let guilt lead you to make choices that will harm both you and the movement.

May 18, 2020. João Pedro Mattos Pinto was murdered by the police IN HIS HOME in São Gonçalo, Rio de Janeiro. he was only 14. when the police murdered him, he was PLAYING in his own backyard. his house now has at least 72 bullet holes in it’s walls. and his mom’s heart has one giant hole, that one type that is impossible to be ever filled again.

this happened exactly a week before George Floyd’s murder. João Pedro was black too.

it doesn’t matter where you from. all cops are bastards. all of them. brazillian ones. us cops. even the ones from your country. all of them serve the same racist purposes. 

João Pedro should be remembered. his life and Floyd’s matter so much.

so much respect for the protesters in Minneapolis.

this google doc includes a list of petitions to sign, resources to help educate yourself and others, organizations to donate to, and contacts of law officials to get in touch with to express your support for the george floyd and black lives matter movements. this includes ways to help even if you don’t live in america. please read it and support the movement. 

use your voice. use every platform you have, no matter how big or how small. nothing will change if you just sit there and watch. if you think you’re the exception, you’re not. remaining indifferent will only support the oppressor. do something.

write to your legal representatives. express your support for legislation that would bring justice to the unarmed civilians who’ve been murdered by law enforcement officers. demand for justice. 

call 612-324-4499 ㅡ this is a hotline that will coach you on how to get connected with the people who can arrest the officers that murdered george floyd. 

create serious conversation. stop demeaning people who disagree with your philosophies on how to overcome. it is useless and no better than the practices of the oppressor to silence. we need to listen to each other with respect and really consider how we can combine our perspectives to create practical change.

for people who are unaware of why the riots in minneapolis started happening, here’s the facts:

it wasn’t george floyd’s protesters who started reacting violently; it was the cops.

the protest was peaceful until the cops showed up in riot gear, and started using water cannons, followed up by tear gas and rubber bullets. i got videos from friends who were there, of people screaming and running away from the cops shooting the water cannons, rubber bullets and throwing tear gas at them. they were even shooting at the protesters dragging people away to get medical attention.

speaking of medical attention, dispatch refused to provide any medical attention to the protesters. people literally had to drive their bleeding friends to the hospital because they refused to send ambulances.

cops are using non-lethal weapons in a lethal way. they shot rubber bullets into people’s heads and injured them. there’s dozens of photos of protesters with bleeding head wounds from the rubber bullets.

multiple people used police scanners and heard that there were undercover cops pretending to be violent protesters who were throwing rocks and whatnot at the police, with dozens of eyewitness accounts confirming that information.

the person who instigated all the chaos last night (it was a fire at an autozone) with the looting and burning buildings is highly suspected to be an undercover cop pretending to be a protester, because the video of him keeps getting taken down. protesters tried to stop him but couldn’t because he had a hammer and they were scared for their safety.

the cops jammed cell phone towers and cut live streams to interrupt broadcasts and to prevent people from seeing what was really going on and who actually started the violence.

the cops lied about protesters being armed and about throwing rocks and are literally trying to continue the violence happening and yet no one is holding them accountable for that.

and during all this, the cop that murdered george floyd still hasn’t been arrested. he has had more than ten complaints filed against him and was involved in three other civilian shootings in the past. and yet he’s still out free along with his three other buddies involved, probably sitting on his couch while all this chaos is happening.

so don’t get it twisted. the cops just want to change the narrative to make it look like they’re the wounded and righteous party, when they’re the ones who started reacting violently in the first place and are still acting violently. so don’t you ever forget who started this tragedy and murdered someone, and who are continuing to react to the situation with violence.

she’s adopted and has 3 siblings that are all aliens – she found it very hard to fit in when she was a child.

dream job when she was young was astronaut, but she never did too well with science, so she’ll just wait for commercialised spaceflight to be a thing.

she was quite a player in her early twenties while at university – possibly a leftover from her sometimes lonely childhood as a way of personal rebellion

however, she’s not really cut out for that life and is tired of the emotional toll it took on her, she really just wants to settle down with someone who she has a strong emotional connection with.

crybaby – cries at everything – happy crying, sad crying, angry crying- especially movies… but at least shes a quiet crier!

she loves hearing people’s stories – part of why she loves owning her store so much, chatting (the books at the back still haven’t been sorted after two years because shes too busy chatting, tut tut)

addicted to coffee – she has a coffee set-up at her store and makes it for everyone that comes in

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐐𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬

➊ 𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐝𝐢𝐝 ��𝐨𝐮 𝐦𝐞𝐞𝐭 𝐂𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐲? she’s a regular at my shop! guess she really likes reading or something? she comes in at least once a week to browse through the new arrivals, and it may or may not be the highlight of my day.

➋ 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐂𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐲? she first came in when I was having a very rough day, a few days after I first moved to glimmerbrook, so I was not excited about having another customer very close to the end of working hours. I just wanted to go to the little room i was renting and cry my eyes out over a tray of homemade brownies. however, she picked up one of my favourite books and gave me the sweetest smile while chatting that, let’s just say, my day was a lot brighter after that. also, she drank her coffee black and shes the only person other than me in that store that even dares to do that so, she’s kinda special.

➌ 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐚𝐥 𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐞? i really enjoy calm quality time. anything like going to a café to chat, exploring an art gallery or going for a long drive at the beach. i have had my fair share of wild times, and that lifestyle really gets tiring after a while, let me tell you. later on in a relationship, i honestly just love staying home and getting takeout to eat while being maybe too competitive over board games.

➍ 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭’𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐚𝐥 𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩? well, I haven’t had a serious relationship that lasted more than a few months, like, ever. i guess i have been unlucky in the partner department, but i also think i wasn’t very clear about what i wanted either. i really want a caring, open partner. i am a massive cuddler so that is definitely a requirement. i need a relationship that is a two way street – we both feel open and comfortable to share our worries, concerns and aspirations. a relationship is all about supporting one another through thick and thin, but that can only happen if your partner knows what youre going through.

➎ 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭'𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞? uh oh, i really dislike talking about myself, but i guess i can give this a shot. i wont lie, i’m quite insecure. i have definitely gained a lot more confidence than i had when i was younger but, there’s still a long way to go. i have always been very inclined to hide aspects of myself by putting on a loud persona but, lately, that has gotten very exhausting so I’m ready to let it go. i also love helping people – i can get lost in my head sometimes and nothing helps me out as much as listening to somebody else’s problems and getting invested in trying to help them. its why i love running my store so much, it gives me a chance to talk to so many people and, at least for a few hours, find some solace from my loneliness.

i grew up very insecure as i mentioned, and felt like i never really fit in with my family, but that doesn’t mean i don’t love them. i would do anything for my brothers, even though they would never admit that they need their baby sister’s help. living in glimmerbrook is the first time i’ve lived away from them and it’s honestly been such a rough time, but we still talk on the phone all the time! i never told them quite how i felt about our family inside, since i know how much it would hurt them, and it’s a secret i will take to the grave.

RULES & GUIDELINES

- May only use ONE sim. Download someone from the gallery, create your own, use an EA townie, whatever. Make sure you’re 100% pleased though because you’ll be stuck with them till the end!

- CAN NOT change Sim’s genetics, body shape, etc. (Hair, contacts and such are free game, but try not to alter anything that couldn’t be easily changed irl.)

- I’d appreciate it if you included a link back to this post. Thanks!

- Since this was inspired by the style of lookbooks, try to include each outfit’s corresponding CC links when applicable. Not only is this super helpful for fellow simmers, it will also save you from having to answer tons of WCIFs.

- Get creative! Take your screenshots right from CAS, pose your Sim in a parallel in-game setting, or PhotoShop your own backdrop. The choice is yours!

- I tried to make each category as gender neutral as possible, so feel free to interpret each prompt however you see fit! Just make sure to stick to the rules (or not, it’s just a game) and have fun!

P.S. - don’t worry about trying to post one a day, or finishing in a certain amount of time. Skip over prompts you don’t like, go out of order, or wait 5 months between posting them (like I did) if you want!
