A Choices Newspaper #1 (Part 1)

Background: As I was sitting at home and celebrating my last final for the year (woohooo!), it struck me that Drake from The Royal Romance would write the most hilarious, annoyed, grudging advice column. Specifically, for a newspaper that we heard of when our MC met the first reporter at the Derby in Chapter 5: Cordonia Broadcasting Center.

One thing led to another, and I started writing fictional interviews and articles about chapter events and in the voices of Choices characters, and finally putting it together in PhotoShop. Featuring our MC and Drake from The Royal Romance, Zack from The Freshman, and Annelyse from TCATF, may I present the first installment of the CBC newspaper!

Stay tuned for Part 2, which includes food criticism by Nomade Chef Mira and pop culture commentary from Reza Fassihi, who received a stern warning from his editor in chief for his overly exclusive focus on TCATF.

Hello, world! It’s time for today’s #WeeklyFluff. BB (@birdbee0705) is a Japanese white-eye bird who was rescued off the streets of Taipei, Taiwan, when she was just a baby. True to her nickname “Princess,” BB loves getting pampered — especially when she’s massaged or brushed. “We don’t cage her, so she can fly around in our house all day,” explains BB’s human. “No matter which room we go to in our house, she always follows us like a tiny flying puppy.”

DIY Apple Rose Pastries

Yields 12 pastries

The things you’ll need

Ingredients

3 Honeycrisp apples

1 package Puff Pastry, thawed

Lemon

½ cup butter, softened

¼ cup honey

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

½ teaspoon salt

½ teaspoon ground cinnamon

Equipment

Medium bowl of water

Cutting board & knife

Medium mixing bowl

Small mixing bowl

Rolling pin

Bench flour

Small mixing bowl

Spoon

Dry brush

Cupcake tray

Pan spray

Strainer

Let’s get started!

Preheat oven to 375ºF.

Combine butter, honey, vanilla, salt, and cinnamon in a small mixing bowl. Mix until smooth.

Squeeze half a lemon into the water. Cut apples in half lengthwise and remove the core. Slice each half into thin slivers and then soak them in the lemon water.

Microwave the soaking apples ntil soft, about 4 to 5 minutes. Drain the apples and then pat them dry.

Roll out each sheet of puff pastry to abot 12 by 12 inches. Cut out six 2-inch by 12-inch strips and then brush off excess flour.

Spread a thin layer of honey butter onto one side of each pastry strip. Arrange the apples lengthwise slightly overlapping as you go, skin towards the top.

Fold the pastry up over the apple slices. Start at one end and roll the pastry into a swirl.

Repeat steps 5 through 7 with the other sheet of puff pastry.

Place each pastry into a greased cupcake tray and bake for about 35 to 40 minutes, until golden brown
