i was inspired by the tentoorose gc briefly talking about the birthday panel in empire of the wolf and this idea came to me all of a sudden. i hope you enjoy it!

The Doctor chuckled to himself as he watched Rose pace back and forth in the kitchen, rolling her eyes in response to his mother-in-law's antics and unsolicited advice. His poor wife had spent the last hour calling other parents and friends to let them know that Mia's birthday party would be postponed for a few weeks, and of course, the final call would take the longest.

He'd offered to help, but Rose had immediately vetoed the idea on the terms of rude and still not ginger.

A loud sneeze pulled his attention back to their daughter, who was wiping her nose with the sleeve of her pajama top.

In a dash he plucked a tissue from the box and walked the few steps to where she was laying on the floor on her tummy and colouring. He sat down beside her and gently pulled her hand away from her face, replacing it with his own.

He kept his voice gentle while reminding her to always cover her mouth with her elbow and to blow into the tissue, not her favorite dinosaur jim jams.

"Okay, daddy," was her simple, nasally response.

And as always his heart swelled and he barely restrained the urge to pick her up and squeeze her.
