Living in Japan, I had a sudden wrenching gut pain. The last time I'd felt a pain like that, I had to have my gallbladder removed in an emergency surgery. I went to the hospital and they said they would need to do an MRI to check it out. But this was right when we were switching from the Heisei to Reiwa systems, so my new insurance card hadn't come in yet - they said, very apologetically, I would have to pay out of pocket for it up front but as soon as my card came in I could bring it in and get refunded. I was terrified about how much it would be, but the uninsured cost was, as above, a total of three hundred dollars. (Technically it was like 30,000 yen but Japan doesn't use decimals, so rough equivalency.) And after I got my new Reiwa card? They gave me back two hundred fifty of it.

Healthcare in the US is fucking ridiculous.

The biggest Democratic win in swing states means nothing if democrats don't turn out everywhere to keep the reliably blue states blue.

VOTE. Wear appropriate weather gear if you think you may have to stand in a line outside (coat, hat, gloves, umbrella, sunhat, whatever, you know where you live). Bring water and a snack and something to do (book, game on your phone, podcast and headphones, whatever, you know what you like). GO VOTE.

this is the second time an advisor has fucked me over, or at least tried to. the first time they totally fucked me going into the wrong subsection of college and so i ended up graduating a year late with a degree i could barely use.

this time they're trying to change my focus to something i didn't say i wanted and screw me over by enrolling me in classes that are not what i need.

bastards. bastards. bastards. i'm glad i caught it in time and learned from the first experience not to trust anything.

if you're an advisor for college i implore you to fucking pay attention to the people in your care. they trust you. they're investing thousands of their dollars and years of their life based on what you have to say, and if they're placing that trust mistakenly it will fuck them over.

this is your job. fuck you for treating people so cavalierly.
