it really depresses me to see conversations about the āmale loneliness epidemicā (for many reasons) and i canāt help but notice that the discussion almost always turns into the quality and apparent lack of depth of male-male friendships vs female-female friendships and it seems to be an accepted fact at the foundation of these analyses that men and women are never friends with each other

two weeks ago, my dad felt he needed to see the Bob Dylan movie in theaters a second time. the closest theater still showing the movie was half an hour away, and he couldnāt drive because heād had surgery on his hand, but he had my mom take him. except it took too long for my mom to find parking, so they missed the first 16 minutes of the movie. so now that his hand has healed he drove himself a half an hour to a different movie theater, so he could see it in theaters a THIRD time (well, the first 16 minutes only for the second time).
he thinks timothee chalamet deserves the oscar!!
the Bob Dylan biopic may have gotten mixed reviews from critics but i would like to report that it is going over shockingly well with the demographic of Bob Dylan super fans in their late 60s
my dad, who is a big enough Bob Dylan fan that he made us go on a family vacation to Tulsa so he could see the Bob Dylan Center, loved it and said Timothee Chalamet was fantastic. similar review from dadās cousin, also a Bob Dylan fan since the 70s.
one of my dadās best friends, who is a PROFESSIONAL Bob Dylan nerd, contributing to the curation of the Bob Dylan center and publishing essays on Dylan, has seen the movie in theaters twice now

as part of my new yearās resolution to read books during my commute instead of watching tiktoks, i randomly grabbed a copy of āthe mysterious islandā by jules verne. i have never read verneās work before and i gotta say i was not surprised to learn that they published abridged copies of this that were a mere 90,000 words as opposed to the 195,000 word long translation i am reading
the pacing of this book is like
> something mysterious happens on the island
> cyrus harding says nothing about it
> 4 pages on how felt is made
> 10 pages of geographic descriptions that mean nothing to me as someone incapable of drawing a map in my head
> a list of random animals jules verne thought should live on the island
> 10 pages of everything is going really well. they made tools and there was food and they went hunting and nothing extraordinary happened
> something mysterious happens on the islandā¦. [REPEAT FOR 300 PAGES]
#what we lack in character development we make up for in instructions on how to make nitroglycerin and soap and felt and a windmill#and glass and batteries and a kiln and guncotton and bricks and we learn how to measure a cliff and how to seal a boat#and facts about the miscellaneous animals jules verne thought would be fun to put on the island and facts about tree classification#and thereās a chimpanzee who wears clothes! thatās fun!#please monsieur verne just tell me why the dog is barking at the hole to the ocean#i donāt know if i can tolerate another 100 pages of fun chemistry facts

i'm doing this thing where i almost remember something but not quite and i start spiraling and spend hours fixated on trying to figure it out...
so quick question, does anybody remember what reality tv show c. 2015-2017 sometimes had these two photos of horses in the background, but they were blurred out because the tv show didn't own the rights to the photos??
i can't remember if it's even something i watched, or if i saw post somewhere about the blurring of art in the background of reality tv shows -- i want to say it was something like real housewives, but maybe not.
the only reason it really stuck with me was that while the horse photos were blurred on tv, i knew exactly what photos they were because i would walk past a furniture store that had them in their window display (around the same time the show was airing).
i could picture the weird street positioning of the furniture store in my mind really well, but was struggling to figure out how to word it but somehow with no other information than "it had these horse photos in the window and it was in lower manhattan, where the streets aren't a grid so you approached the store at a weird angle", one of my friends miraculously knew what i was talking about and could ID the store as mitchell gold + bob williams on lafayette st. it looks like they sold this lovely horse art from 2015 to 2017.
anyway i'm gonna go back to googling various reality tv show titles + "interiors" date range: 2015-2017 for the next few days, see you never

i keep wondering, if barron trump wanted to take an art elective at NYU, would secret service even let him? or does the social media activity of every person associated with the art department precludes him from coming within 100 feet of the art building
#people think sternies are soulless capitalists but actually some of my favorite non-art major students have been stern kids!!#you can do it barron come learn ceramics or something let loose a little

i really appreciate when i watch a video about 3d printing/modeling and the person making the video also has an appalling workflow that uses more programs than necessary
i need to use blender to sculpt irregular objects but i don't like blender's tools for building basic shapes so i build a blocky draft of everything in fusion but i don't like fusion's tools for drawing vectors so i draw any profiles i need to extrude in illustrator
no this does not work well
#very often i just have to scrap everything i did in blender because i realized i designed something wrong in the fusion stage#but no i will not learn how to use blender properly i hate it so much#i will make peculiar and lumpy monstrosities with 2 million triangles and it will work for what i need it to do

IT IS JUST A STORY ABOUT RABBITS ANY RESEMBLANCE TO THE ATTITUDES OF YOUNG PEOPLE POST WORLD WAR II IS SURELY YOU READING TOO MUCH INTO IT

I am reading Watership Down for the first time in my life (Iāve also never seen any of the animated adaptations), and the copy I have comes with this introduction by the author. I already found it very funny that an author would give a disclaimer to not try and read meaning into his text but I am losing my mind as I actually read the story, like hey man you donāt think any of this has to do with living through he horrors of World War II? None of it?
#he makes this disclaimer that itās just about rabbits but also has acknowledged itās based off his military service#like i guess itās not an allegory if you want to say that an allegory needs to be a cleanly parallel story and not a series of allusions#but idk dog seems like you had some Big Feelings you wanted to get out

#also bizarre to occasionally remember while reading that this is a story he made up to tell his daughters during car rides#not really sure how i would respond if i was a child and my father proceeded to describe rabbits choking on poison gas with lurid detail
