Whilst creating my magazine advert I wanted to make sure the audience would be interested in it. to make sure of this I had the same ongoing theme of wearing the same clothing and using the same locations in my music video, digipak and magazine article. I wanted to make sure throughout the artist was stylish and trendy, wearing mainstream clothing which would attract our target audience of teenage girls. By having the same ongoing theme running throughout you get an ideal of the artists lifestyles and interests and the audience members will feel like they have something in common with the artist.
the way I created my magazgine advert was by using photoshop, which is the same software I used to create the draft of my digipak. I was able to alter and change the saturation and brightness of the photo until it was they way I wanted it. I was also able to import photos such as the atlantic records logo and was able to change the font colour, size and style to what I thought the target audience would enjoy most. I chose to have most of the writing in black and white however had the artists name in a bold red font so it would stand out. I also used star ratings as a way to try and persuade the target audience to buy the album as the ratings from other media companies were positive.

Question 2 evaluation - How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?
INTERVIEWER
Good evening everyone and today i have with me the director and producer of the hit music video “aint got far to go” Ceara Chaplin. this music video features the hit singer Jess Glynne. Today we have Ceara here with us because she is going to tell us about just how important it is the develop brand identity and the effect her music video had on her audience. Welcome Ceara, and why dont you start off by telling us how you created your brand identity and why you think it is so important to have one? CEARA
It is an honour to be here at MTV extra talking about the success of my music video. i think one of the main reasons why my music video was so successful was because of the brand identity i created, i believe by doing this my artist was really able to connect with the target audience as they would feel like they have something in common with her and are able to look up to her and really connect with her music. For example Sia has a brand identity of wearing a wig which covers her face, by doing this is shows her to be different to all the other artists which makes her stand out, this therefore keeps her audience on their toes hoping one day she removes the wig from covering her face. The way in which we created a brand identity was by dressing my artist is fashionable yet mainstream clothing, because our target audience was of the younger generations we wanted our artist to dress like them. We did this by dressing Ceara in bright and vibrant colours and this of course linked well with the lyrics and type of song because it is happy and unbeat, and wouldnt really work well if we dressed Ceara in basic black and white clothing. INTERVIEWER
Well that does seem very interesting and a great way for your artist to really connect with her fans. Now aswell as the music video you must of had to try and sell your track in different ways, what were these ways and do you think you continued to use your brand identity throughout these? CEARA The ways in which i tried to sell the track was by creating a Digipak and a magazine cover. The ways in which i was able to use my brand identity when creating these was using the same ongoing theme that i used within my music video. for example during the photoshoot for both my magazine advert and digipak i dressed Ceara in the same outfits she wore whilst filming the music video. i thought it would be a good idea to do this as it would show the same mainstream trends in which the target audience would be interested in. And also if audience members were seeing the digipak being sold in shops before they had actually seen the music video, they could be attracted to it due to the bright colours and trendy outfits which could interest them in watching the music video. The locations i used to take pictures for my ancillary tasks were the same urban areas in which my music video was shot which creates a link between the two types of media INTERVIEWER
Good anwser Ceara, now my last question is, why and how do you think this type of brand identity will help sell your digipak and magazine advert?
CEARA
i believe this brand identity will help to sell the magazine and digipak because the bright and vibrant colours i used aswell as the trendy outfits and the locations is what attracts the audience to this type of music because it involves what they are interested in. i also believe that my music video aswell as my arcillary tasks follows the typical forms and conventions of a pop music video. it incorperates a lot of dance as the music is very dance orientated. the fast upbeat tempo links well with the bright colours and locations of the music video, just by looking at the digipak you could already tell what type of song it was going to be. The magazine advert and digipak also have to include things which are going to help sell the song such as feedback from other music companies, luckily with my music video it included all positive feedback, which makes it easier to sell. Overall i believe the brand identity i created allows a relationship to be built with the artist and audience, and the audience members are able to feel like they are close to the artist without even knowing her, just by having the same interests as her.
INTERVIEWER
Thankyou for coming ceara it was lovely talking to you.

For question 3 of the evaluation i decided to do a focus group, i chose people who were outside of my friendship group because i thought they would give more honest and unbias anwsers which would help me understand the strengths and weaknesses of my music video.
The first question was ‘what do you like about our music video?’ overall it seemed that they enjoyed my music video. They thought that the clothing linked well with the type of song, because of song was an upbeat and happy song we wanted to correspond that in the outifts that were used, we tried to use bright colours such as red lipsticks and also vibrant clothing such as glitter and different colours, althought we didnt want the clothing to be too going outgoing because then all the focus would be on the clothing and not any of the other aspects of our music video. Another positive thing that was liked by the focus group members was the location in which we filmed. Locations were important to us because we wanted to get across the diversity in Bristol, which is why we decided to film it in the centre of Bristol as it is a very diverse city and it linked in well with the type of song we chose and they said that it fit the stereotypical genre of a pop music video. Another positive feedback that we got from our focus group was the lip syncing, it was important that we got this spot on because if it was off time by a split second it would be obvious, this was one of the biggest challenges we faced when recording and in order to do this we made sure the song was rehearsed constantly, we also played the song so the character was able to know the tempo and time of the song as they were lip syncing.
The second question was ‘what didnt you like about the music video?’. Although overall they enjoyed the music video the main problem that occured was to do with out editing. For me and my group members we were new to using Premiere Pro so were trying to learn how it worked while trying to get our music video edited and finished before the deadline which was quite hard at times, One of the main problems that we faced was cutting the clips at the right time, it had to be perfect otherwise it didnt flow well with the music. There was one time in particular in which the clip we wanted to use for a certain part of the song was slighty too short but the gap between that clip and the next one was too small to add anything else in, we came to a mutual decision that we would use a dip to black to fill it in, we werent completely satisfied with how this looked but we decided that there was nothing else we could do. Another problem that was spotted was the way we used the equipment, in some of the clips for example an over the shoulder shot of out character uploading a selfie to instragram, it was very difficult to try and get that shot using a tripod as it was from up above, as a result of this the clip wasnt completely still so we had to cut it to be as short as possible to try and minimise the look of it being shaky
We then also the audience if our music video represented a typical pop music video, to which they all agreed on. they said one way we did this was through the bright and vibrant colours of the locations we chose such as the bear pit in bristol which is covered in graffiti and also the outfits of the artist such as silver sparkly leggings, bright red lipstick and a red and black fur coat. One of the main things they noticed in our music video which represented a pop music video was the dancing that we encorperated throughout the music video. As a group we believed it was important to include dancing in our music video due to the song being so upbeat, and is the type of song that would get people dancing, so we included 2 or 3 clips of dancing, we spread these clips equally across the music video but only did a few times as we didnt want it to get to repetitive.
In another question we asked if the artist was represented well and connected with the target audience, and which the majority of the focus group fitting the catagory of the target audience they agreed that the artist was represented well and has a positive influence on the target audiece throughout the entire video, and they are able to connect with her easily and this is done through her clothing and style.
As a group we also wanted to know if we conformed or subverted the typical expectations of a pop music video. Our focus group gave only positive feedback on this question and said it followed the typical conventions of a pop video which is what was our main aim as a group to achieve, another thing they said they enjoyed was the ongoing theme of friendship that ran throughout the entire video, we believed this would be a good idea because the song is happy and unbeat. The focus group also said how they liked the fact we subverted Laura Mulveys theory of the male gaze. Normally in a music video girls are dressed in quite revealing clothing which will attract the attention of a man, however in our music video our artist is represented as being independent and throughout the video none of her clothes are revealing. It was important for us as a group to get feedback as we are all quite new to using media technology so wanted to find our areas in which we could improve. If I were to make this music video again after hearing the audience feedback I would first of all get to know the equipment I am using. One of the main problems we faced as a group was trying to learn how to use the equipment while filming as we wanted to have a music video finished by the initial deadline, by knowing how to use the equipment it would make our shots more clear/steady and therefore more appealing to the audience. I also think if I was to do it again I would include more dancing, although me and my group members didn't want to include too much as it would make it very repetitive, I think it would work well if we added in more dancing shot in different locations to make it more exciting to watch.

This is my final digipak design. On the front cover ( bottom right photo ) I wanted to have a picture of the artist on their own. I didn’t want there to be too much going on in the front cover and I wanted the main focus to be on the artist herself, this is why I chose a plain background and simple font. I wanted the digipak to reflect back on the music video and to do this I decided to have the artist wearing one of the outfits that featured in my music video.
On the back of the the digipak (middle bottom photo) I decided this is where I was going to place the song lyrics that would be featured in the album, on the back I wanted to have the area in which we filmed our music video, which was Bristol. To take this shot I went to one of the places where we filmed part of our music video which was the top floor of Cabot Circus car park, because it was so high up you have a clear view of the whole of Bristol, I took pictures from different sides of the car park but I think one fitted best.
On one of the spare panels ( bottom right ) I wanted to include the other artist who was involved in the music video but I didn't want her to be the main focus of the digipak which is why I didn't decide to put her on the front cover however I felt like it would be necessary to include her as she had some involvement in the music video. I included her name just so if anyone was interesting in finding out about her they were aware of who she was. like the front cover I decided to take the picture in front of a plain background so the main focus of the picture would be the two girls, I took the picture slightly far to the left so I could fit writing into the top right hand corner, once again I used a plain font and font colour so the no attention wasn't diverted from the artist and co artist.
In the middle of the digipak I used the name picture but split it up so it was across the entire inside of the digipak, I did this because I wanted it to be simple and effective and also to have an on-going them on the inside of the digipak so there wasn't too much going on. the theme I decided to use across the inside of the digipak was an establishing shot of Bristol with the artist included, I had her facing away from the camera as if she was looking across Bristol. As you can see on the top middle slide there is writing which includes the debut song of the album, I have placed it there in a circle because this is where the CD would ideally be placed, so when the person who purchased the album took it out of the case they were able to read that.

These are the two cast members that are going to me participating in our music video me (bottom picture) and Ellie Latham (top picture).
In our music video I am going to be the main character who will be in the majority of shots and this is because I am the singer in the music video.
Ellie wont be in as many of the shots as me and wont be singing with me but we thought it would be a good idea to include more than one person in the video because its a very upbeat and happy song so thought it would be more interesting if we included more than one person.
