His subsequent films include, Mimic, The Devil’s Backbone, Blade 2, Hellboy, Pan’s Labyrinth, Hellboy II: The Golden Army, Pacific Rim, andCrimson Peak. Del Toro earned international acclaim as the director, writer and producer of the 2006 fantasy drama Pan’s Labyrinth. Maggie Schpak, 2018 Distinguished Service Award Recipient
Maggie Schpak was born and spent her early years in New York. Her father was film actor, Millard Mitchell. Her Dad sewed, knitted, and taught her to tie good bows. Maggie attended Pasadena Playhouse in the early ‘60s as an acting major, but found she was spending more and more time with the tech students in the costume shop. After college, she acted in a lot of little theatre and often designed and made the costumes. One director pointed out that she could actually earn money with her skills and gave her the name of Al Nickel at Western Costume Company, who gave her a real job. She gravitated to designers who liked to do hand-made items for their films, Dorothy Jeakins’ Little Big Man, Lewis Brown on numerous Music Center Productions, and Robert Fletcher. She was married at the time to Tom Browne, a metal sculptor and artist, who came to work at Western Costume Company in the prop department. There was a metal shop on the 6thfloor owned by Bill Reyhill, and when he retired, Maggie and Tom bought the shop. They were lucky to have great mentors like Bob Fletcher who just assumed they could make anything he could dream up, and Jack Bear and Sal Anthony, who would come in with amazing ideas. Maggie and Tom separated in 1973, but remained creative partners and friends until his retirement in 2008. When Western Costume Company changed hands in 1996, they moved the shop to Glendale, where it is today. As time passed, the projects became bigger and more labor intensive—they were up to 11 employees by the time they were doing The Last Starfighter for Bob Fletcher, and Masters of the Universefor Julie Weiss. Though they would still do the armor for principals on Chronicles of Riddickfor Ellen Mirojnick and other projects, jewelry and insignia became their specialty. Crowns and tiaras of all types and periods are great fun and fulfilling. Her greatest source of enjoyment is when she can see and understand what the designer is visualizing, and bring it to life at the Metal Arts Studio.

Los Angeles, CA (JUNE 26, 2017) – JumpLine Group announced today that Sarah Cowperthwaite has been promoted to Executive Producer of the CDGA (Costume Designers Guild Awards). This announcement comes as the show prepares to celebrate its 20th Anniversary. Sarah began working with CDGA and JumpLine as a Talent Producer in 2007, and in more recent years served as the show’s Supervising Producer. It is her creative vision and dedication that has elevated CDGA to the show it is today, honoring the work of Costume Designers and the talent that adore them (in recent years, CDGA has honored Meryl Streep, Cate Blanchett, Quentin Tarantino, Amy Adams, Judd Apatow, and more). JL Pomeroy, Executive Producer of the CDGA for 15 years, will now hold the position of Executive Producer Emeritus.
The President of the Costume Designers Guild, Salvador Perez, said “Working with JumpLine on CDGA is an absolute pleasure and we look forward to continuing this collaboration under Sarah's leadership. We know we're in good hands, and wish Sarah much success in her new role at JumpLine.”
In addition, as part of a larger strategic move for the company, Sarah has been promoted to President of JumpLine Group (JumpLine and BehindTheLine). Sarah’s production expertise will help her continue to grow JumpLine, a brand activation and event agency. And her longtime track record as one of the most trusted and liked talent producers will be invaluable to BehindTheLine, the company’s content division, which recently produced the feature-length documentary about Saturday Night Live, Live From New York!
Cowperthwaite will also continue her 18-year tenure with the SAG (Screen Actors Guild) Awards, currently serving as a Talent Executive.
“It is a privilege to step into the role of President and take both JumpLine and BehindTheLine into the next chapter,” Cowperthwaite said. “I have great admiration for the exceptional team JL has assembled, and the vision she has created. I’m also ecstatic to serve as Executive Producer of the CDGA, a show that means a great deal to me, especially on our milestone 20th Anniversary.”
JumpLine Group’s Founder and current President, JL Pomeroy, will continue to stay involved in JumpLine as Chairman, while all daily operations of the company will be handed over to Cowperthwaite.
“I founded JumpLine Group in 2002 because I knew there was a better way to bring brands and entertainment together,” said Pomeroy. “After 15 years of amazing work and growing the company to have offices in four markets, I am humbled by the success we’ve had. But, mostly, I am thrilled that we’ve built a culture that retains incredible talent like Sarah Cowperthwaite. She has been my trusted advisor for 10 years, and now I’m honored to become hers as she moves into the well-deserved role of President.”

LILY COLLINS ANNOUNCED AS RECIPIENT OF THE LACOSTE SPOTLIGHT AWARD AT THE 19TH CDGA (COSTUME DESIGNERS GUILD AWARDS)
Ceremony to Take Place on February 21, 2017
Los Angeles, CA (January 23, 2017) – The Costume Designers Guild announced today that Golden Globe® nominated actress and fashion icon Lily Collins will receive the annual LACOSTE Spotlight Award at the 19th CDGA (Costume Designers Guild Awards) on Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.
The LACOSTE Spotlight Award honors an actor whose talent and career personify an enduring commitment to excellence, including a special awareness of the role and importance of costume design. Collins is being honored for her on-screen talent and her widely known respect and affection for the designers she’s worked with. When Collins last attended the CDGA, she wore a statement dress with an oversized bow on the back as an homage to Eiko Ishioka, her Mirror Mirror costume designer, who had passed away that year. Ishioka went on to win the award for Excellence in Fantasy Film that night.
Lily Collins is a rising star in Hollywood. She has already gained praise for her roles in numerous films such as Love, Rosie, The Mortal Instruments, Stuck in Love, The English Teacher, Mirror Mirror, Abduction, and The Blind Side. Most recently, Collins starred in the highly acclaimed film Rules Don’t Apply, directed by Warren Beatty. The role gained Lily her first Golden Globe® Award Nomination in the Best Actress Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy category.
Collins recently wrapped production on the dark comedy To The Bone, directed by Marti Noxon, as well as the Bong Joon-ho directed Okja, starring opposite Jake Gyllenhaal, Tilda Swinton, and Paul Danno, which will premiere on Netflix in 2017. Currently, Collins is filming the Amazon/Sony Pictures drama series, The Last Tycoon with Kelsey Grammer and Matt Bomer. The series is based on F. Scott Fitzgerald’s final unfinished novel and the pilot has already received much acclaim.
In addition to acting, Collins is a rising fashion icon and journalist. She has been writing for ELLEGIRL UK, Nickelodeon, SEVENTEEN Magazine, and CosmoGIRL! since she was 15. Collins is also set to release her first memoir, Unfiltered: No Shame, No Regrets, Just Me, which will be published through HarperCollins on March 7, 2017. This debut collection of raw and deeply personal essays will resonate with teenagers and young women, and help inspire honest conversations.
LACOSTE has been a supporter of the CDGA for more than a decade and returns as Presenting Sponsor for the eighth consecutive year.
For the fifth year, LACOSTE will partner with the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising (FIDM) and their costume design students on creative collaborations. This year, six students were asked to select an iconic fairy tale character, then sketch and design a polo shirt based on that character. LACOSTE provided each student with its famous branded polo shirts, as well as piqué fabric, trims, and crocodile logos. The completed designs and their accompanying sketches will be displayed at the 19th CDGA as well as at the LACOSTE Symposium, an intimate panel discussion with award-winning Costume Designers, on February 22nd. The FIDM students will attend CDGA and the LACOSTE Symposium as guests of LACOSTE.
