wikipedia in classical chinese is the comfort read i didn't know i needed. everything on it sounds like an 8th-century guy time-travelling to the modern world and dutifully documenting everything to report back to the emperor. also the corresponding wikitionary is named after the first ever dictionary from two or three thousand years ago. it's just so cute.

something very special about typing chinese on a flip phone is that at some point not only can you remember how many times in what order you should press the keys without looking, but you also know the automatic character suggestions by heart. you know which words can be suggested correctly with only the characters' initials and which characters you have to type in full, you know whether it will be the second or the third or the fourth suggestion that's the right one because it's always in that order, and you know how many characters you can type in a row without selecting one-by-one before the auto-suggestion starts making mistakes, and it's incredibly satisfying to type a long line of letters then press “enter” and have the right sentence appear out of that mess like magic. i miss it so much.
