Falling for scams does hurt people, actually
TW: Human trafficking, SA, torture, discussion of scam farms
I see a whole bunch of people arguing that they would rather risk giving to a scammer than ignore someone's gofundme. I also see people saying things like "I can't believe some sick people are profiteering off genocide" and like, me neither, but I feel like you guys really don't understand who actually runs these kinds of scams and what they are.
Scams of noticeable scale-- like scam asks being sent from hundreds of accounts to every user on Tumblr!-- are typically related to organised crime in poor countries, not Susan from Milwaukee who wants a new coat and has no scruples. People get trafficked by gangs to scam farms in Asia and Africa where they're worked to the bone and tortured trying to get idiots in wealthy countries to part with their money. Genocide profiteering is pretty much the least evil thing these people do.
Here's a UN article on it. Obvious warnings for content related to human trafficking and SA.
When you donate to a scammer, you fund these organisations and give them a reason to exist. It's possible some of the fundraisers are legit. I honestly find it unlikely given I'm not seeing any from any other countries where urgent fundraisers would seem to have great reason to exist but which haven't captured the same level of attention on Tumblr-- the number of Sudanese, Congolese, Ukrainian, Burmese or Uyghur fundraisers in my DMs is a fat 0. In any case, there are safer ways to help.
If you want to help (which is great!) you don't have to take the risk of paying for human trafficking. Donate to legitimate charities which have the resources to safely and effectively ensure the money and help is getting to the right people. Funding human trafficking rings in Myanmar is not a good risk to be taking while trying to help.

there is something horrifically grim to it, but illustrations for gaza and palestinians tend to catch more mass attention that actual photos of people. this made me feel incredibly helpless for a long while, seeing both how people would rather look at a neat drawing of red black green and white than look๏ฟผ a human in the eyes, and how online platforms would rather push a viral drawing while suppressing those begging for help at the same time.
a way to cope with this feeling has been taking advantage of it to directly guide people to helping palestinians.
if art gets better traction, then thereโs an incredible amount of good that can be done by creating art that immediately links to fundraisers. creating art of the many images of those who are asking for help.
within hours of posting my drawing, there has been jumps in the thousands for bashar from gazaโs fundraiser. itโs a small effort in the grand scheme of things. itโs not a fix it. but itโs something good. please take care of each other and do what you can. i think this could help a lot of people if a lot of people did it.
here is bashar. iโve drawn him, spoken to him, and known him now for a few months. any shares help, any art helps. draw who you see, draw what you see. thanks all

Today marks the 76th anniversary of the Nakba, the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians to make way for Israel in 1948.
Over 750,000 Palestinians were displaced that day. This did not start on October 7th.
Know their history, fight for their future. ๐

I don't know what to say, the Palestinians were celebrating, they were celebrating knowing that they no longer had to hear any bombs, that they wouldn't need to see the dead bodies of their relatives and that they would finally have some peace after seven months of death and destruction. So much joy and elation, only for it to be torn to pieces by the settler colony state and its refusal to end the war. It is heartbreaking, soul-crushing. Tears and anger can't describe the devastation as the children will continue to suffer; it can only be described as malevolent. But the Palestinians are a people of hope, they've always had it, and that hope will never be extinguished.
Zionism is an absolute plague, and I pray every day that this poisonous and genocidal ideology is destroyed. May the fires of Hell swallow all of those who enabled and supported this genocide.

Biden needs to die genuinely
How are you going to act ~concerned~ about Israel killing aid workers and then CONTINUE TO SUPPLY WEAPONS? And Israel only "took responsibility" for the attack due to request for Biden's PR, I guarantee that.
Sick fucking people, it's just incomprehensible how cruel, and the US government could stop the support any time

"why don't you focus on your own country?" is the dumbest attempt at shutting down criticism of america. maybe when you cunts stop putting military bases everywhere and trying to micromanage the entirety of global politics. do you not think people would fucking love to not have to think about america for 5 minutes?

Israel had shut off water and electricity from Gaza 110 days ago. One hundred and ten days ago. Most of us would literally not survive this long without clean water and electricity. Look around you right now and tell me how many things in your vicinity depend on electricity. Are you able to imagine a life without uninterrupted access to water? I still remember the old lady who was interviewed in a tent who said "the question you should be asking me is how long ago was the last time I showered".
To know that millions of people have their literal life spans, their movement, their access to water, when they can eat, what and how much they can eat, when and how often they can shower, how and where they sleep - to have it all be controlled and dictated for them while also, simultaneously, the mere idea of providing them with aid is "out of everyone's hands"?
There are fucking miles of aid trucks, filled with essentials, that are stopped right outside of Gaza at the Rafah border, while people inside of Gaza are freezing and starving and dreaming of clean water to drink. How does this not infuriate you?
Fuck Israel and every nation that enables and emboldens it.
#free palestine#i literally cannot believe the audacity of them still defending their actions#it makes me sick to the core
