I was absent, yes, a VERY LOT of the time. But during this time I drew a lot of things, worked on my Tiktok account and moved on to other fandoms. The other day we discussed with friends the new art of Carmen Sandiego and wondered who to draw at all? Any ideas?

So I have to point this out. I just have to.

In 1x06, when Cat just stops work in the middle of the day to give Kara life advice (and also to get drunk, but mainly the first thing).

Kinda hard to tell, you’ll hear it best at the very start before Cat starts talking, but a cover of Fleetwood Mac’s Go Your Own Way is playing. As Cat tells Kara that she has to deal with her anger, not just suppress it, that’s the only way she’ll be a healthy, fully functioning person.

Then we get to season 2. Cat leaving gets us that famously heartbreaking, yet famously perfect hug scene. Kara saying how she doesn’t deal well with change, can’t see herself at Catco without Cat. Cat telling her how much she believes in her, has faith in her.

Side note:

2x02: “Now. I want you to go in there and show that son of a bitch Snapper what you’re made of.”

2x22: “Go get ‘em, Supergirl.”

Anyway, Kara doesn’t like change and Cat leaves, is the point.

Fast forward to the finale. Cat encourages Kara to screw the double life and become one single, fully actualized person.

“I believe in you. I always have,” she says, after giving countless pep talks to Kara Danvers and Supergirl both. But now she’s told Kara that she knows the truth, and that she believes in her both as Kara Danvers as Supergirl.

And then that final scene. Fucking Landslide playing as Kara sits across from Cat. Which is a whole thing in itself, but look at the scene. What are the actual last lyrics that we hear?

Well, I’ve been afraid of changin’

‘Cause I’ve built my life around you

That specific song, and that specific part of that song are the last things we hear. As Cat introduces the world to the Kara Danvers she’s always known, the one she’s always believed in. As Kara grins back at Cat with that smile. 

Kara feared change, feared her ability to go on in the same way without Cat after building so much of her identity around Catco. More specifically, Catco as it existed under Cat Grant. She questioned her ability to deal, but Cat refused that, insisted that Kara did not need her to do great things.

Handful of years later, and Kara’s Editor-in-Chief at Catco, has saved the world countless times over, and, is now freely letting go of the secret identity she’s clung so tightly to for so long.

Cat was right. Kara did not need Cat in order to be a hero. That’s been proven. And now, after everything, Cat is home, they’re back together, Kara’s come into her own without Cat holding her hand, they’re finally on equal ground, no secrets between them. Kara’s proven she doesn’t need Cat in her life, but clearly still wants her there. And so she is, after all this time, ready to join Kara on her next adventure.

On their next adventure.

And going from that conversation in the restaurant with the Go Your Own Way cover in season 1 to where we ultimately ended up? It gives me feelings, okay?
