When I'm out in the garage working, Vice gets to tag along and hunt dust bunnies in the garage attic. I pause every so often to call him down, just to make sure he hasn't gotten into trouble.

Finding out that Frances Dana Barker Gage, a white woman, rewrote Sojourner Truth’s famous speech to be more stereotypically “Southern slave” (complete with slurs and misspellings like dat, dere, dey) when Sojourner Truth was actually from New York and spoke only Dutch until she was almost ten and wouldn’t have actually sounded that way linguistically and decidedly did not use the phrase “Ain’t I A Woman?” at all is…whew. And on top of everything, she embellished details about Sojourner Truth’s life (like the number of children she had/how many of them were sold into slavery), wrote that ST said that she could take beatings like a man, and the reception of the speech in the room (she claims ST was called a n*gg*r, earlier accounts say the room was welcoming).

The way my brain works is constant overlapping thoughts and frequent cross-contamination. I've currently got a small cut on my finger, and trying to wash my hands without getting the bandaid wet, I was thinking about how if I had to explain germ theory to somebody from a pre-modern historical era, it really would be easier to explain them as invisible spirits that inhabit all physical things and sometimes cause disease, than to confuse them further by talking about how there's teeny tiny bugs on your skin and then get distracted into talking about atoms and physics.

And simultaneously on another tab there was another monologue going about how there is also good bacteria on your skin, and apparently some poor misguided teens on TikTok have been convinced that all bacteria on your skin is bad, and are absolutely wrecking their natural skin flora by regularly using antibacterial soap for routine everyday washing.

Then the thought cross contamination jump happened, and a third hybrid thought spontaneously manifested: What if supernatural entities work like bacteria, and doing excessive evil spirit banishing will also get rid of your good spirits that you need to be balanced and healthy? Like you don't have a demon problem because you're not burning enough sage, the problem is that you're doing too many cleanses and purifications, essentially scrubbing your home raw and so sterile that your house guardian decided that it's uninhabitable and fucked off.

And that's why you've got evil spirits in your house. You scrubbed off all the ones that are good for you.

I will never ever ever disparage fan artists bc I love them. But I do think that they should be shown pictures of real forty year olds bc the current trend of 40y/o yaoi has made it clear that many people do not, in fact, know what 40y/os look like. Yall are drawing seniors. Which is fine!!! I like that too!!! But I uh. I think maybe you should start looking at people outside of their twenties.

Leverage has done this thing to my brain where I can't believe the actors in any other role to be real. just witnessed a girl spot her friend in the grocery store and instead of calling her over she started making turkey noises. and her friend, who apparently recognized her call, responded with higher pitched turkey noises before she even saw her and they used turkey echolocation to find each other. friendship between girls is a beautiful thing <3
