Fix it fic

It's been some time since I recommended a fic.  Life has gotten away from me. But I am still reading.  Devouring all the fanfiction I can. Destiel has kept me sane for the past five years.  No lie.  On that note I am going to recommend my favorite fix it fic because let's be real. That finale was absolute garbage.  I know it's been years now, but I am not moving on. I wish we would get a season 16. But I'm afraid if we did, we would still have the same bullshit writers that buried the love our boys had for each other all over again. They would just reignite the bros on hunting trips and Dean not having shown any growth as a person over 15 years. Rant over.

Here is my fav fix it. I admit. I have lots of favorite fics. 😘 It really depends on my mood and what emotion I need to feel that day.

I'd like to recommend, "peace came upon me (and it leaves me weak)" by outdean. This fic has Dean actually working on his issues. His alcoholism, his depression over Cas. I

Summary: Nearly a year after Cas' death, Dean finds himself, of all places, at an AA meeting.

The 2025 Fanfic Reading Challenge

Welcome to another year of the Fanfic Reading Challenge (FRC)!

I won't bore you with the history of the challenge, this year, but I will welcome you to check out past posts that do explain some of it, as well as include a brief overview of what, exactly, this challenge is, though it does change year to year. (Essentially you read fics to complete goals and win bragging points and an artsy badge.)

This year is especially different, as I had the extreme pleasure of having @noxsoulmate as a partner in crime in keeping me hostage on track to completing this year's FRC. Another valued member of the mod team is @jandjsalmon and speaks for all of us if you need questions answered!

As for the challenge....

This is, indeed, a challenge. Of course.

First of all... you must obviously read fanfiction. As if you don't already!

You also need to download and make your own copy of the spreadsheet, which can be found here, as well as below in the important links section.

To participate in the challenge, you read fics that match the tasks in the challenge. An example of a task can be: "read a fic with a title containing the word purple in it." Should be easy! Of course, there are harder ones.

Which is why there are different modes of challenge to the FRC. These are as follows:

Participation (Complete 1 task)

Regular Mode (Complete 80 tasks)

Hard Mode (Complete 150 tasks)

Extreme Mode (Complete 220 tasks)

Complete (Complete 250 tasks)

The challenge lasts from January 1st, 2025, to December 31st, 2025.

There are badges that go with the modes completed, and even a secret 6th badge that will be fairly obvious if you look at the spreadsheet! Doesn't mean it'll be easy to complete though. *smirks* (Blame Noxy)

Most important of all: this challenge operates on the honour system. We don't check your work, or your reading logs (see below), so I mean, I guess if you want to be slippery with the rules, you do you, and that's on your conscience, but honestly it's so much fun to see how much you can get done by following the letter of the law/tasks! You can be slippery even with following the tasks fully. It's great fun. ;D

I think that's enough for an intro, really, maybe too much.

As there is a component of the FRC that includes tracking numbers of words read, most of us use a reading log/tracker to keep count of how many fics we read, including data such as words, of course, chapters, month completed, ship, author, title, fandom, link to the fic, and such. It's a great place to mark what fics you want to read in the future as well!

We have a blast on Discord. From general chatter to sharing pet pics to being there for each other during the tough times to forming lasting friendships and making friendships you’d never make in a ship- or fandom-specific Discord, to asking for help ‘rolling the dice’ (pick a number between 1-10!) to choose the next fic to read, to finding some of the really challenging task fills in fandoms people might not have ever read but are willing to try, or finding fandoms someone has never read and is very tentative about stepping out of their box, but they’re being 100% supported and know they don’t need to complete the fic for it to count for the task, stepping out of their comfort zone… we’ve formed a very odd group of, if not friends, then companions (but there are definite friendships that have formed!! Just ask the people who have started watching NHL and NFL together in our off topic channel!).

In any case, our Discord is not necessary, but it is a worthy and tactical element to completing many of the tasks of this challenge. 💙

Please, first of all, have fun and just read fanfiction that you enjoy! I (Juulna) did that last year and didn't even come close to completing the entire challenge, and I still had a blast because I was enjoying what I was reading and rereading. Others took the challenge right to the completed end. Others forgot about it halfway through but still had fun, and some even went back and filled in the sheet for a really good showing! The challenge is what you make of it, what you want from it. So... just have fun. Read fic. Smile. Enjoy. :)

Hello thank you for finding the fic Scent of an Accountant for me on the destiel fanfic page. I was wondering I’m looking for another fic that may be deleted Dean catches Cas in bed with Meg. He comes home early but because he is driving another car they don’t hear him enter the room. I recommended this one to a friend and now we can’t find it not even in my history. I was so heartbreaking Gabe felt guilty because he introduced them and he had to keep Sam from punching him. I recommended this to my friend because we are big fans and this was kinda of something that happened

Couple questions if you can remember. Was Meg a neighbor and this was a one night stand or was this an affair and Cas ends up leaving Dean for Meg?

Ah, Mondays. What can I say? After getting the weekend to binge read as much as I want, I spoend my day at work thinking about what I can read when I get home. While I was at work today putting away teacher supplies, this fic popped into my mind. It was the first story I every read with the Dead Dove: Do Not Eat tag. When I found it I was legitimately confused. Dead dove? What? But I proceeded to read it anyway and I have never shied away from fics like this since. The fanfiction I am sharing tonight is:

Seven Heavenly Virtues by Strixes

Summary:

The Mark of Cain turns Dean into a demon once more. Dean is adamant that this time he's found a way to keep the mark under control but it's clear to Castiel that Dean needs help if he's going to fight the mark's influence until they can find a way to get rid of it. More than anything Castiel wants to save him, but if anyone needs to be saved it's Castiel as he tries to navigate where Dean ends and the Mark of Cain begins.

(this is a dark fic from the get go. Read the tags and beware)

I'll be honest. In SPN I wasn't a very big fan of Demon Dean. He was kind of just, eh for me. He didn't seem all that scary except for when he went after Sam and even then it was over so fast. But this fic is perfect. Dean is manipulative and dark. Strixes writes a better Demon Dean than the actual SPN writers that are paid to do it.

Castiel is so trusting and HUMAN that he breaks my heart. He loves Dean and he wants to believe in him so bad.

I've needed some comfort fics to get me through the past week. It kind of reminded me of when I first found fanfic back in 2020 during the Covid quarantine. So I'm going to recommend a fic by one of my very favorite authors.

Happy Friday! I've been working on organizing my closet and I'm taking a break. I decided to go through some favorite fics and do a reread.

I came upon the a breakup/makeup fic. The thing I like most about this one is that the boys were in love when they decided to split up. They didn't fight and cheat or anything hurtful. They were just heading in different directions in life and didn't want to hang on to the other and in the end come to resent them. It's how a best friends to lovers story should play out in my opinion.

Summary - Ten years ago, Dean and Cas were high school sweethearts, with a love just like the movies. Real life threw a wrench in their plans of happily ever after, though, and they had to break up. Now they meet again, finally both in good places in their lives - but Cas is with Balthazar and Dean is with Lisa. Can they finally find a way to be friends after all these years? Or maybe fate has something else planned.

If you haven't read it I encourage you to give it a chance.

This has been a long week and it's only Wednesday! I'm 50 years old. I forgot how exhausting it is to take care of toddlers. Don't get me wrong. I'm happy to help my son and daughter in law. The mind is willing but the body is weak. 😂 anyway. That got me to thinking about my two favorite men. Dean and Cas. Once my grandbabies are picked up I think my reading tonight will be:

A Mature Student by startswithf

Summary: Prof. Castiel Novak does not know how to handle the smokin' hot silver fox in his Intro to American History class.

What I like about this fic is that Dean and Cas are close to my age. It's always nice to read about them being in their 20s, 30s and being hot with sculpted bodies. But it's also a nice change to read about people my own age that are still considered attractive to men and women.

Another fic recommendation coming up! I've been quiet for a bit. End of school year and I have started babysitting my grand babies to help my son and daughter in law save some money on childcare. I haven't been able to think very much about sharing fics or anything else except the day to day. However, I found this fic shared on X or as I still call it Twitter. After reading this fic, I immediately started searching AO3 looking for more like it.

Notes:

Caution: This takes place entirely in the croatoan endverse. It has a lot of dark and sad material. I'm not warning because I'd prefer you be in Cas's headspace. That said, reader discretion advised.

This fic was beautifully written. It was first published in 2015 long before I started watching Supernatural. I've always wished for a more indepth look at what could have happened in the Endverse world and this fic was right up my alley. The brokenness of Castiel was heartbreaking. Dean was empty. If you haven't read this fic yet you really should.

It's been a bit since I've been here. I go though phases on the different apps I enjoy. Lately I've been organizing my fanfic spreadsheet and have noticed a lot of deleted fics. Very sad.🥹 But as much as I will miss those fics, there are thousands more to still read! I have about 3000 fics saved so getting them all organized is taking me some time. But I have strayed from my purpose. The next fic I would like to recommend is, "Unexpected Bonds", written by NinjaSoulreaper27. I admit, I've only read a few fics written by this author. However, it is so lovely. Dean and Cas feel an instant connection and become best friends overnight.

Fic summary:

Dean has just entered his senior year and is Captain of the Varsity Football team. Him and the guys hear about two new transfer's. They're two of Michael's cousins. Castiel and Gabriel Novak. Dean isn't sure why he's drawn to the blue eyed brother but decides not to over think it too much and make friends with the intriguing guy.

Cas and his siblings have just moved to Freewill, Kansas. At first Cas thinks his senior year will be just lile every other. Almost no friends and boring outside of sports. That is until he meets Dean Winchester. Hot football player who is just Castiel's type, however the guys becomes quick friends and Cas doesn't want to lose that.

Good morning Destiel friends. For my next fic recommendation I'm going to share one of the first fics I ever read. A little back story. I didn't watch Supernatural until the covid lockdown. I had been a HUGE fan of Charmed and was binge watching that when my daughter, who was home from college told me I needed to watch SPN. It was her favorite show. I was not too terribly excited but I didn't have anything else going on. 🤭 I fell in love with Castiel and that was it. I decided to look into this thing called "fanfiction" that Becky Rosen mentioned mainly because I saw pretty quickly the connection between Cas and Dean. I found a Destiel page on Facebook and the rest is history.

I read at least one fic a day depending on size and I don't mind rereading. The fic, "Have Books, Will Travel" by Palominopup is one that I have read numerous times.

Fic summary:

After growing up dirt poor, Dean Winchester seemingly has it all—brains, good looks, and multi-million dollar hotel chain. The one good outcome of a disastrous marriage was his son. With Dean’s busy schedule leaving it impossible for his son to attend regular school, Dean has to find a tutor that is willing travel across the globe with Dean and his son.

Castiel hated his job at the ritzy private high school tending to the spoiled brats of the rich and famous. He liked the simple things. The small ad in the paper caught his eye – travel, tutoring a young child – it seemed perfect. Only his new boss was fascinating and totally off limits.

Dean knew his son’s teacher was forbidden fruit, but damn, he was sinfully hot. As they travel to different cities around the world, the two men fight their growing attraction.

Castiel adores the boy in his charge and showers him with all the affection he was denied as a child. Will the three become a family?

This fic has it all. It's funny, angsty and fluffy. Dean is all of us when he becomes tongue tied the first time he sees Cas. Palominopup has many fics and I love then all.

For my first Tumblr post I'd like to say thank you to all the Destiel fanfic writers that have helped me come out of my depression that the SPN finale left me in. Since I have no followers and no idea how to get any this page will probably end up being a place for me to post the fics I've read in the past and any current fics I'm enjoying. Like a book club of one! 🤭

The first fic I'll review/share is one I just found yesterday. It's an older fic from 2012. The name is "I Through My Window See", by deHavilland. Fic summary:

AU in which Castiel remains human after the apocalypse is successfully averted by Sam and Dean. The Winchesters get him set up in an apartment in Sioux Falls and then promptly leave him there, hoping he’ll start a new, normal, human life. Castiel, thinking the reason for this abandonment is his newfound mortality, comes to terms with being human in an effort to prove he has the strength to fight at their side. Dean’s more than a little surprised to come back and find the angel he once thought he knew bussing tables by day and hunting ghosts at night.

This fic was really good. I always like a fic that has Cas finally not putting up with Dean's shit. It also showed what I feel was lacking in a human Cas in the TV show. Cas wasn't helpless. He had a bit of adjustment he needed to go through but at the end of the day Cas is a BAMF and I think that gets over looked too much. This is a very quick read. Only 26,000 words. I hope a new fanfic fan finds this and enjoys it as much as I did.
