Plan your Dream Trip now. Basic Budgeting and Comparison
1. Pick your places (Ex: Bali, Japan, Peru)
2. Check costs of flights for each location. Compare prices as the base of your budget (Example: Bali cost $2,500 Roundtrip, Japan cost $1,500 Roundtrip, Peru cost $400 Roundtrip)
3. Check the cost housing in locations you want to visit (Example: Bali hostel $10 a night, Japan hostel $30 a night, Peru hostel $12 a night)
4. Get an idea of the cost of transportation. Are you taking busses, planes, boats, taxis, etc. Google a sample trip from one city to another and find the cost (Example: a taxi from the airport to the city in Lima, Peru costs approx. $12)
5. Consider your desired activities and what they will cost.
Now pick the place that is most effective for your budget. For example, Peru has a $400 roundtrip flight, is only $12 a night and transport is cheap. I want to visit for 2 weeks and I want to go sand surfing.
My costs are as follows:
$400 (Flight)
$168 (Accommodation, $12 x 14 nights = 168 total)
$504 (Transport budget, $36 3 rides per day x 14 days = 280 total)
$500 (Activities Budget for sand-boarding, Machu Picchu, etc)
$1,572 is your basic budget for 2 weeks in Peru!
This gives you a great starting point and comparison for any of your travel destinations. Personally, I like to “highball” my budgets, so, once I get this base number I round up to the nearest thousand (or whatever is most comfortable). I would head out on this adventure expecting to spend less than or equal to $2,000. Your numbers may be higher or lower depending your travel style but the process is the same! I hope this helps and I’ll see you out there!
