I HAVE A THEORY pt. 1

so @cassandraclare has revealed that the hardcover for CHOT will have a reversible dust jacket. Now she has pass it off as "art" on the inside but I can't help but have a little theory in my brain (It's probably the wait for CHOI, its making us all a little nutty).

Anyway, in the CHOG, at the start of the book when it quotes Charles Dickens', Great Expectations, it states:

"Pause you who read this, and think for a moment of the long chain of iron or gold, of thorns or flowers, that would never have bound you, but for the formation of the first link on one memorable day."

Now as we already know the CHOT cover will of course have the much anticipated thorns on it, as sneak peeked in one of Cassie's posts, on insta a while ago:

But I was wondering about the roses and had a thought about the reversible cover, before mentioned, and thought: "What if Grace Blackthorn is on the front cover with the thorns, and James Herondale being on the flipside cover with the roses mentioned along side the thorns in Great Expectations?"

I just thought this up randomly in the shower a while ago when I was weeping about how far away the release if CHOT is, please tell me if u have a good rebuttal that can throw this theory out the window so I don't get too hung up on it, that would be much a appreciated🙂

If Rupert Blackthorn is indeed the ghost of the house, does this mean he may have probably appear in Chain of Thorns and have something to do with the whole ordeal that happens there? I would die if he meets Lucie. She is technically the only person who could see him along with James and Will. Someone would ask: 'if Rupert has been around (as a ghost) all along, why did he never meet Jesse?'. This is a good question, but perhaps there is a reason. Jesse didn't give the impression to have interacted with Rupert in his seven years of ghosthood, unless he was withholding information from Lucie. Perhaps Jesse was conspiring with Rupert all this time, along with Tatiana and Belial. I don't think this is the case. I still want to believe that Jesse is a victim in all of this and that he isn't 'in' Tatial's plans of revenge. If we choose to believe that Jesse wasn't lying, then there may be a reason Rupert never showed himself to his son. Rupert never 'met' Jesse in real life, so we don't know if he might not recognize him as his son after he died and possibly roamed around as a ghost in Blackthorn Hall, the place where he tragically died. We don't know if all the ghosts are like Jessamine, who suffered a similar accidental death and remembered and got acquainted with almost all the kids of TLH. She lingered around, and she is the protector of the London Institute but also the protector of its inhabitants (the Herondales and the other families alike, but especially the Herondales). This confirmation in SOBH makes Rupert a sort of guardian of Blackthorn Hall, after all, does it? And since there is more than one ghost, then it's possible that Rupert's ghost is the friendly ghost while Tatiana is the bad ghost. I can understand Tatiana annoying the descendants of the families that caused her grief (if Julian is indeed descended from Lucie and Jesse, or even from Grace and Christopher, it would be like 'fraternizing with the enemy' in Tatiana's eyes, wouldn't it?). But would Rupert scare off a Blackthorn like him? Perhaps he wouldn't. It's possible that Rupert appears, or he is brought into question in Chain of Thorns, and it is important for the plot. With Jesse now alive, though, we might not have a scene with them interacting (sad). But I still have hope we might get a scene of Lucie interacting with Rupert. And maybe Rupert's ghost is the only one along with Jesse who can help with Tatiana's demise along with the rest of the TLH gang.
