Diem laughed loudly sticking her tongue out at her boyfriend. “Shut up! I would have maybe given them back...Eventually...Except for maybe the lifeguard sweatshirt. It’s way too comfortable.” She said climbing into the drivers seat. “I am too...I missed you, like a lot. Mom’ll be happy to hear that we got back together though..”

Ross held his girlfriend’s hand in his right hand and his left one had his skateboard. “Good thing we’re together. If we weren’t, I was going to call the cops for you being a thief.” He joked before getting into the car. “But seriously, I’m really glad you’re back.”

Diem stood and linked hands with his as they began walking back over to her car. “You did.” She answered with a nod. “Along with the normal couple things you had left, I have quite a few of your shirts that I’ve stolen. So you should be okay.” She said with a sheepish grin.

“Yeah sure.” He said as he took her hand. “I might need to go home to get clean clothes but I have a feeling I might have left some at your house.” He said, looking at her.

“Sounds good to me..” She replied with an easy grin. Her skin pricked where his lips ghosted and she hummed quietly. “I was sort of hoping for that outcome..” She laughed threading her open hand through his hair and placed another kiss on his cheek. “You wanna walk over to the car? I’m parked over there..We can head home if you want”

“Sounds good to me. I’ll tell my mom I’m staying at a friend’s mom and just won’t bring up your name.” Ross said with a smile. “By the way, you know we will spend most of the time doing something like this.” He kissed her lips before bringing his lips to her neck then whispered in her ear. “Instead of watching the movie.”

Diem laughed softly before relaxing into the kiss. She grinned at his response and moved so that she could properly curl into his side. “How about we compromise with a movie night tonight at my place and then in the morning I make you waffles?” She bargained. “Mom and Bobby are out for the week so I have the place to myself and it’s getting kind of lonely..”

Ross looked at her and smiled. “Only if you bring me breakfast for a week and tell me how much you love me.” He joked before lifting her chin up and pecking her lips softly. “Of course that’s okay with me. If I didn’t want to be together with you again, I wouldn’t have come over here.”

As soon as he took her hand, Diem felt a huge weight come off of her chest and she slouched sideways to lean into him. It was comforting being back where she was familiar. “I’m sorry too..” She responded looking up at him. “I should have said something or called. And the other day when you asked I got defensive...I’m just really sorry. I want a do over..” She said leaning to peck his cheek. “Is that okay with you?”

Hearing her talk about what was happening made him feel horrible. It was like he was never there for her. Ross got up and walked over to her, sitting down with her. He put his arm around her and held her hand. “Everything is gonna be okay…yeah I’ve been dealing with stuff but that doesn’t mean you can’t tell me things.” He said then kissed her forehead. “I’m sorry for everything.”

Diem nodded. “I told you how my dad wanted to be involved again, and well he wanted to reargue the custody case and since that’s where we had been the last time the case was heard we flew out, but it was really touch and go, and I wanted to call and-” She cut herself off, trying to take a deep breath. “I didn’t want us to fight..I felt awful. I missed you..” She said playing with her hands. “I just..I know you’ve been dealing with stuff in the foster home, and I didn’t want to add to the stress...”

“Iceland?” He looked at her confused. What Ross wanted was them not to fight and sort this out somehow. “Look, I’m sorry…you just never told me and it scared me. I was worried about you. Not hearing anything for a months. I love you..I was just worried.” Ross said, looking into her eyes.

Diem nodded at the ground doing her best to avoid eye contact with him. But when the prick in his voice hit her she snapped her head up prepping for more yelling and instead seeing him sitting firmly on the ground with the same old stubborn set to his jaw that she had come to know. “I told you I would have called if I could. I didn’t know...” She mumbled rubbing at her arms. “I had to go to Iceland with my mom..”

Ross sat down in front of his ex girlfriend. “Just skating.” He said and then looked around. It was awkward for the both of them. “So, you never told me why you left. You know when you just left for a whole month, no calling or texting?” He said and crossed his arms.

Diem bit down on the inside of her cheek when he spoke. She honestly had never thought the sound of someone’s voice could hurt so much, but hearing him now just made her remember the yelling they had done less than a week ago when they finally broke everything off...  “Hey there..” She said trying not to let her voice crack. “What brings you to this neck of the woods?” She asked avoiding the blanket of tension that had settled around them.

After a hard day, Ross decided to skate around the park. Most cops didn’t like it but if they said anything, Ross would stop. He stopped when he realized what selection he was going into. Their spot. He sighed before looking up and seeing Diem under the tree. He didn’t know what to do but he had to do something. He got back on the skateboard and skated over to her. Jumping up when he got there, he grabbed his skateboard and walked over. “Uh..hey.” He spoke.

Diem walked through the park and back to thei-her favorite spot and sat down under the tree, curling her legs underneath her. Pulling the locket out of her bag she flipped it open and sighed wistfully at the picture inside. It was from Christmas two years ago, almost but not quite their sixth month anniversary. They had gone ice-skating near his house. Diem tossed the locket back in her bag and wiped angrily at the tears that had formed in her eyes. They were over. She had ended it. He was pushy and rude and sweet and-No. She reprimanded herself sternly, deciding to instead focus on people watching to get her mind off of -and there he was not even ten feet away walking toward her. Damnit Ross...

“That’s a very positive spin. Here I was just thinking that it’s just because both of my parents are under 5′3...”

“ It’s quite alright; don’t worry about it. Everyone needs a lil’ boost sometimes. ”

“Well.Thats, something..” Diem said trying to hid her surprise. “Hippos are pretty cool I guess..”

“Yep! He’s really nice. His name is Henry. I call him Henry the Hippo, because he likes hippos.”

“You are, but the more I think about it the more I doubt my capability to pull that much wool over everyone’s eyes. Maybe I’ll rent a boyfriend! That’s technically legal right?”

“I’m a genius! What can I say? Wait, so are you really doing that?”

“Bring it Ford.” She challenged with a laugh. “You’ve got a great smile, you should use it more...” She prompted with a wink.

“You are SO on,” Nate laughed. He knew he was a pretty bad Online player, but he was decent when it came to same console gaming.

“Andrew. That’s a nice name. I was best friends with an Adrew once. You have a lovely smile..”

“You’re an angel..” Diem said with a shy smile. “I’m sorry this isn’t something I normally go around doing. I swear I’m  self sufficient..”
