Why do many people believe that ALL guide dogs for the Blind are Yellow breeds i.e. Golden Retrievers or Yellow Labrador Retrievers? Several people have said to me that my Guide Dog is not a real guide dog because he is black.?
There is no accounting for peoples stupidity. Guide dogs for blind people can be any breed and any colour. Golden Labs and German Shepard’s training on London streets. Tri colour sheepdog cross with blind owner. Chocolate lab under training. Border Collie guide dog (Black and White) Australian Blue Heeler cross guide dog and owner. And just to educate your friends, these 4 are all bothers and sisters from a Golden Labrador mother and a Black Labrador father, and all are Guide Dogs for the Blind: Oreo ( Chocolate), Samo (Golden), PJ ( Coffee), Hunter (Black).

Do golden retrievers have softer coats than yellow labradors?
They have longer “feathering” fur on the neck, legs, and tail. Goldens are sometimes bred for longer, silkier coats than what is described in the breed standard. Many owners like soft, flowing coats while breed purists say that Goldens, as hunting dogs, should have more moderate coats. People love their pets, and any Labrador owner will likely see their pooch as the perfect family pet. Even if their Labrador is suddenly aggressive and leaves a person with major wounds, they may be desperate for no further action to be taken. However, a Labrador bite incident is serious and should be treated as such. Go to my Profile and you can find all about Labrador Retriever material there...

What are the differences between Labradors and Chesapeake Bay Retrievers?
Labs are friendly and easily submit to humans. They have coarse, straight fur that has only a bit of a wave. They love the outdoors but tolerate indoors ok as long as they get out and have fun, they are not destructive usually as they like and want to please their owners. They work hard, but best in partnership with people. They love the water, tolerate cold but not usually very good in heat. If bored, they will chew toys or try to entice play- they tend not to be destructive as they don’t like to evoke a negative owner response. They come in black, yellow and chocolate. They are friendly happy dogs who want to please and like to be with people. They have patience and tolerance with kids and other dogs, usually. Chessies are exceptionally intelligent but do not easily submit to people. To be honest, they just don’t care what you think unless you can earn their respect. They are about the same size as labs, but their coat is oilier and wavier. They get destructive when bored, which happens easily. They are hardworking dogs who like to be busy and so are great hunting dogs. Their colours are weird- any version of brown, with a couple called sedge or deadgrass, people call them “mud colour”- if you think of all the different muds you’ve seen, from dark to red to clay to tan, there is a chessie who looks that way. If kids or other dogs get on their nerves, which they will do, they will get up and leave but some dogs will make their intolerance quite clear. It is not recommended that novice owners get a Chessy, as they are not easy to train. They are brilliant cold water retrievers and will work until you force them to stop... I knew a chessy who hunted non stop 8 hours, and when we got him home he ran out to the pond behind his house and went int the water.... he wasn’t done yet! No matter how much his owner called him, he was splashing about in the bracken and he wasn’t going to come until he was damn good and ready. If it had been a lab, all you would have needed to say is Dinner! and he would have come in. Chessies don’t care what you think. They say “I know you think you’re the boss, but... look, I don’t mean to hurt your feelings, but I have better things to do...” Labs say “Im so sorry, please forgive me... are you gonna eat that?” Does that help?

Is it true that black or brown Labrador Retrievers shed less?
From a personal point of view, I have had labs of all three colors and noticed no real difference. Sometimes one color shows up more in the home than another. It probably depends on what color your carpets are. But essentially black labradors shed, chocolate labradors shed, and yellow Labradors shed too. Dog breeds which have a double coat generally shed more than those with a single coat. In fact, Labs are known for being prolific shedders. Some Labrador dogs will have a large shed twice a year, while others will shed little and often throughout the whole year. Why does my 1-year-old Labrador Retriever go nuts when I tell him it’s time to go outside?
Congratulations, he’s just learned a word in English. Or whatever your language is. He knows it’s time to potty, walk, play, get the sniff of the whole neighborhood, find out who’s new and where someone dropped his hot dog. Labs are social, they like interaction with other dogs and people. Young labs are very active. They have a prolonged adolescence too, so make sure Pup is well trained before he hits that age. They are bouncy, happy dogs as long as they have sufficient exercise and people. If you find your dog getting destructive know that he is bored and under exercised and adjust your actions with him/her appropriately.

How small is the smallest Labrador retriever?
For example Miniature Labradoodles are a cross between a Labrador and a Miniature Poodle. They are almost always smaller than a purebred Labrador, but still retain some typically-Labrador traits. Golden Retrievers Are Smaller Both breeds are recognized as being medium sized, however if you measure a Golden vs Lab you will notice the Golden Retriever is an inch shorter. Female Golden Retrievers stand at 21 to 22 inches compared to female Labradors with a height of 21.5 to 23.5 inches. Go to my Profile and you can find all about Labrador Retriever material there...

What is the best brand to feed a black Labrador Retriever Dog?
There are many good brands, each with proponents and detractors. You may start a war if you get people talking about brands of dog foods. Anyway, take a look at Sport Dog Food, especially if your dog is going to be active. I like the high proportion of animal proteins and I particularly like the uniquely clear ingredients list, that lets you see exactly what is in the food in precisely what proportions. I’ll just add, considering the other comment, that dogs have considerable genetic variation in the strength of their teeth, and some will lose teeth much earlier than others. But sure, diet is also probably a factor that contributes to dental health.

What should be the price of a coffee brown Labrador Retriever pup and a Golden Retriever pup in India (Punjab)?
I have no interest in Pedigree dogs, or their colour, or their price. You cannot buy love, do remember that. If you truly love dogs, then adopt an Indian (Desi) dog from the streets or from your local animal shelter. Pedigree dog breeders are the reason why so many Indian dogs are neglected. Breeders are also the reason why so many pedigree dogs live and die with sickness. They snatch the puppies away from the mother even before they are properly weaned. This results in the puppy not developing full immunity against diseases. If they survive, they get sick all throughout their lives with pet parents having to deal with mounting medical expenses. There are many people who even throw the puppy away because they do not want to pay for Vet visits or medicines.By the way, you should have gone through my earlier posts/answers. I have never advised buying pedigree dogs and will never in the future. Do a good deed and save a puppy from the streets. Give it proper dewormers, vaccinate it fully and the dog will be completely healthy. Indian dogs are also the most loyal and friendly, whereas there are many foreign dog breeds who are very aggressive and don’t make good pets.

What are the problems a Labrador retriever puppy faces when his teeth are coming?
Pain, biting, chewing for multiple months. Baby teeth start coming in at 2 weeks, and are usually all in by 2 months. During this time, puppy will chew on everything to explore, relieve boredom, and bite to relieve the pain of teething. This biting can be problematic to humans on the receiving end of these needle teeth. Puppy needs to be taught to curb this biting in a way that he’ll understand. If you are bitten, let out a loud yelp, turn and leave for a short while—-no yelling at pup, no smacking his muzzle, no attention at all. Puppy will learn that biting results in no more play. It’s also a good idea to have plenty of safe things for puppy to chew, which are soft and flexible, or bully sticks. These baby teeth will begin to fall out and you will periodically find one on the floor. Pup’s permanent teeth emerge between 2–8 months of age. This is when you will start dental care by brushing his permanent teeth (never use people toothpaste). It’s a good idea to start handling pup’s mouth and teeth earlier on to get him used to it. Use your fingers to gently lift his lips and massage his gums.

What is a Labrador retriever?
The Labrador is a British breed of dog descended in general from the St-Johns breed from Newfoundland. A medium to large breed dog with a level back, thin powerful legs, webbed pads and a smooth short coat coming in 3 main colours, Yellow, Black and Brown. That’s the official description anyway. In reality Labs are all of the above in addition to: Part Dog, part otter and part wood-louse. They are big cuddly friends to the world unhappy unless with humans and dedicated consumers of…..everything. Think of a wood-chipper with a smile and fur and you’re not far from the mark. They are highly energetic, intelligent companions whose ability to enthusiastically greet visitors often exceeds their ability to stop quickly. favourite pastimes include but not limited to banging wagging tails against anything loud, drooling over food, anything involving water (dirtier the better) close observation at mealtimes, redistribution of belongings and consumption of ANYTHING slow enough to get caught.
