Antioxidant Cocktail
| A healthy choice for a night out or stay-in with guests |

Bloated. Full. Groggy. These were the symptoms I was getting so tired of after drinking beer-parties, deck hang outs, tailgates, you name it. Beer had to be no more. I couldn’t help it. My stomach was too weak for an IPA and it definitely was not too cheap for a lite beer. Blue Moon was my go to, especially in college. The original orange Belgium white was a perfect compliment for any warm night or fall tailgates. But, I was soon to grow tired of how bloated I felt the next day, needless to say how I could have an empty stomach and only 3 would make me feel like I just ate a Thanksgiving feast. Thus, away with the beer and on came my next phase: a wine snob. Can’t get enough of it and to pat myself on the back I have been beer-free over a year!
Wine was more than just a beer replacement. I had to acquire the taste, as most people do. But, with maturity, and my stomach problems (as mentioned in prior posts), saying goodbye to my cares about feeling good and buzzed was easy. Simple. I now had a drink I didn’t feel like had to be downed-I mean even when you’re not drinking to drink you can still go through a beer quickly-and I could just sip and appreciate the taste. That’s another aspect about my new holistic lifestyle and eating. Eat what makes you happy, but slow down, appreciate it, enjoy it. Okay, back to it. It also allowed me to find a new hobby and appreciation with my long-term boyfriend. We became members of a local wine club, indulge in the glories of shopping for wine and going to (almost) weekly wine tastings. It was our couple thing. I mean, I don’t even think we find tastings anymore, they find us (no, seriously we got offered one when we happened to be looking for wine at Harris Teeter. HARRIS. TEETER.) What does my transition from college beer to wine lover story have to do with this yummy picture and post title? Well, maybe nothing, but it showed my thought process to now on not just eating clean, but drinking clean as well. SO, we all know the benefits antioxidants can do for us: better mood, skin, immunity and more.
Here is my cocktail of choice for such: ENJOY!
-Muddle: blueberries, blackberries, raspberries and mint leaves in a glass
-Add: organic vodka to taste (aka your liking and how you want the night to go!)
*I prefer Rain organic vodka*
-Splash: club soda
-Squeeze: fresh lime juice
-Garnish: with a lime wedge

It sounds cheesy, but the first time I was introduced to all 3 of these brands was from a snapchat posted by Sophia Bush. She captured me with her enthusiastic facial expressions, that brought me into her feelings for what she was about to put into her body, and catchy phrases like “potion time.” Potion? What potions? This simple word got me too intrigued NOT to do research on what these little jars had to offer and, thus, began my first year of a holistic wellness lifestyle.
As a current grad student at the time, my first order was of course the Brain Dust. I was interested in the other brands, but because of a grad school budget, I took upon myself to try what I could afford first with the least risk. It took me a few tries of mixing this Dust with filtered water (yuck!), filtered water with lime juice (...better...), almond milk for snack (yes!) and then VOILA the earthy taste must be a compliment to any brewed coffee-and it was! This became my morning coffee routine to start my school day, mix one spoonful of Brain Dust. As summer came, my outdoor running was back in full annual swing so, hey, let’s see if one of these other Dusts can supplement what a good run-in-the-sun does to my body. My second purchase was the Action, now Power, Dust. Jump ahead to my birthday, when I was able to receive Spirit, Action/Power, Brain and Beauty Dusts for their specific benefits to my life:
Spirit: “help you unwind, expand peaceful awareness and align with bliss”
Action/Power: “regulate the body’s vital energy, healthy metabolic function and maximize your ability to withstand stress and injury”
Brain: “for superior states of clarity, memory, creativity, alertness and a capacity to handle stress”
Beauty: “glowing supple skin, lustrous shiny hair and twinkling bright eyes”
The full Moon Dust collection also consists of Sex and Dream dust. When I first came to the website, I was captured even more by, and certainly than Sophia’s “potion,” other phrases and words such as: “alchemize, radiant, mighty cosmic flow and adaptogenic.” SO intriguing and as a marketing major, more brownie points for this catchiness.
Speaking of that birthday in my first year of holistic wellness, I also received the Super Elixir powder and Bee Panacea royal honey. I was definitely excited about the Elixir because business woman and model, Elle Macpherson, started this product in Australia and as you can imagine, the price per order is pretty hefty-at lest, one again, for a student budget. But, I desperately wanted this product the most after reading online reviews about how this Elixir helped those with stomach/digestive problems, pH levels and the like. THIS is what I’ve been waiting for. It had already been almost 2yrs of doctor appointments first thinking I was lactose intolerant to then thinking I had an acidity (pH) imbalance which required prescription medication. Along with switching my cooking/eating habits this first year, incorporating this alkalizing-greens powder into my daily smoothies was a win. Flatter stomach, healthier gut and supported digestion oh my! But this wasn’t enough, I wanted more vitamins, especially on the chance that I didn’t have my coffee or smoothie routine, something else that could get me my reliant dosage each day:
Bee Panacea by Virgin Raw Foods. It is an acquired taste, but I’ve learned that I best enjoy its taste and benefits when licking on a spoonful each day, sort of like licking on an ice cream cone (BEFORE anything, including coffee, is put into your system). This royal honey is created with superfoods including: Himalayan salt crystals, ginseng, chlorella, royal jelly, maca, bee pollen and raw honey. With benefits ranging from:

E.A.T. Toast

|Perfect for lunch packed with protein, vitamins and good fats: easily digestible|
What’s Needed:
-Whole wheat toast or bakery bread
-1/2 of an Avocado
-1 container of organic cheery Tomatoes
-1 organic cage-free Egg

While preparing the rest, simmer the halved tomatoes in organic olive oil, minced garlic and fresh chopped basil
Bake a slice of the bread choice to liking (I LOVE mine toasted until it has golden brown edges, but is still soft inside!)

In a bowl, use a fork to smash together the avocado half, one teaspoon of lemon juice, 3 dashes of pink himalayan sea salt and 3 dashes of cracked black pepper

Use an egg poacher (mine is from Amazon.com), unless you have the guts to try to make a poached egg handmade ;) -15mins. Heat Setting: 4
*Cutting time by making the poaching process first, while making the rest of the ingredients simultaneously is also an option!

My go-to smoothie needs:
-Stalks of kale- 3
-Frozen fruit (black and blue berries offer anti-oxidents and fiber, but red berries offer heart health)- 1/2 cup
-Bananas- 2
-Spoon-fulls of chia seeds- 2
-Spoon-full of Moon Juice Dusts collection (any varieties for benefits you desire!)-
-Spoon-full of Welleco Super Elixir (alkalizing green powder has benefited me in healing my gut and helping my pH levels)-
-Heaping spoon of almond butter-
-Filtered water-

I began making smoothies at-home as my lunch 3 days each week. It all started when I kept having bad cramps (Charlie Horses hurt!) almost every day and realized I needed a fun way to get my bananas, well potassium, intake up. It was originally just fruit, apple juice and chia seeds. I then began to do more research about how to incorporate other vitamins into a smoothie in replace of over-the-counters. Thus, came the kale and reduced fruits. By this time I was already awaiting my first DUSTINGS (ask me about them) in the mail and voila! my ritual is born.

Italian Baked Eggs
From | Real Simple Magazine June 16
Total Cook Time | 25mins.

#nocarbs so I leave out baking the side bread
120z Turkey Sausage, Casings Removed (If you like spicy, get HOT turkey sausage!)
1.5 Cups Chopped Yellow Onion
3 Garlic Cloves
1 Can of Crushed Tomatoes
4 Large Eggs
Fresh Oregano Leaves
Himalayan Pink Salt (Original calls for kosher salt)
Fresh Cracked, Black Pepper

*This dish was a special occasion (mom’s birthday!), thus, it was paired with a very smooth SILVER OAKS Cabernet Sauvignon-Napa Valley, CA*
|PREHEAT OVEN to 375F|

-Heat ovenproof non-stick skillets over medium-high, add sausage. breaking it apart as you stir with a wooden spoon until almost cooked.- 5mins.
-Add onion/garlic. until onion is translucent. stirring.- 3mins.
-Stir in tomatoes, oregano and salt.-
-Bring to a simmer, stirring occasionally. until slightly thickened- 3mins.

-Break eggs into the sauce, evenly distributed.-
-Sprinkle the cracked pepper.-
-Place in the oven. until egg whites are set and yolks are soft.- 9mins.

-Take out of the over, top with oregano before serving. let cool.- 5mins.
