ayo, guys, i've decided to reread my favorite murder kitty book series! and i have... many feelings about it 11 years after the first reading. so from now on i'm going to post my thoughts here under hashtag "back to warriors". it's gonna be a long ride :D

i finished "into the wild" a few days ago and what can i say... god, these books are hilariously awful in retrospect. there is a lot to unpack, but i'd like to start with something small – ravenpaw and his relatives, for example.

first, i know that erins didn't have any family trees back then, and it wasn't intended to be like this. i just want to bring up how bad and silly it looks now. so yeah, ravenpaw and dustpaw. tbh i would never have thought they were brothers, especially because of the way dustpaw treats other apprentices besides sandpaw. he isn't shown being explicitly horrible towards ravenpaw, but you can't call him a supportive sibling either. i guess dustpaw was acting like a jerk not only towards firepaw and graypaw, but with ravenpaw as well. why would he do that?

well, headcanon time: in "into the wild" tigerclaw is a very respected cat and deputy, and naturally dustpaw wants to look like a worthy future warrior of thunderclan in his eyes. when tigerclaw began to treat ravenpaw too harshly and openly humiliate him for being not perfect, dustpaw became worried. what if tigerclaw, who values kin the most, thinks that this runs in the family and dustpaw is as bad as his brother? so dustpaw starts trying to show in his childish way that they have nothing in common: he avoids ravenpaw, acts like he is "above him" and actively mimicking tigerclaw's behavior towards the apprentice. yes, it's stupid and immature, and in adulthood dustpelt feels ashamed of his past behavior and apologizes to ravenpaw.

second, there is nothing remarkable about frostfur being ravenpaw's sister except for that one scene, where she falls for tigerclaw's lies about ravenpaw being a shadowclan spy. when her kits are missing and ravenpaw decides to check on the other kittens in the nursery, she just immediately beats him up and hisses at him. girl, he is literally a child and your younger sibling, maybe calm down a little?? why would you believe tigerclaw's nonsense so easily? 😭

...yeah, seems like ravenpaw has a pretty bad family, isn't it?

Anime Norman: looks like a constipated eight year old, has a dull emo cloak and about five kids who follow him, tries to burn down one small town with no plan and immediately starts crying, development boiled down to "i wanted to do the bad thing but i no longer want to do the bad thing because it was bad"

Manga Norman: is like???? 6 foot 5???, has a chad william minerva cloak and a legit entire child army, double crosses an entire demon clan and starts the fucking french revolution, kill count over 1K, actually knows battle strategy, walks through the middle of his own massacre and somehow manages to keep his cloak pristene white, gloats at the demon queen and watches her die, has conflicting and complex motivations not limited to oh wow i did a Bad Thing whoops<3

The one thing anime norman did better than manga norman was to apologize for his actions lmao

european comics: Well there's these two guys who have been friends for 20 years, one of them writes the scripts and the other makes the art.

american comics: The publisher wants us to crank out a new chapter every month so we have one dude who writes it, another one plans the page layout and sketches, a third person inks the page and fourth one colours it, and the fifth one is on the payroll just to fight the publisher about the requested edits and corrections.

japanese comics: The publisher wants us to crank out a new chapter every month so we have just this one dude doing the whole damn thing on his own in a tiny apartment while slowly going insane.
