CBNY Batizado 2015
Capoeira Brasil NYC is a small group of students who live and train capoeira in NYC. This martial art plays a huge role in all of our lives, giving us an outlet for creative expression, physical fitness, and community all in one. Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian art form created by slaves in colonial Brazil. It has been described as a martial art, dance, form of self-defense, or any hybrid of these. Every year, capoeira groups like ours hold a batizado, which is an event to recognize the hard work and dedication that the students have put in throughout the year. Those of us who have grown in our practice in the past year will move up a level and receive a new cord, a symbol of our advancement as capoeiristas. Batizados are very costly—they require funds to rent a space for the multi-day event, provide transport and accommodations for the visiting masters and instructors, create event uniforms, instruments for the participants, and overall marketing tools to get the word out. Capoeira has been a positive light and influence for so many of our students. What we want more than anything is to keep the spirit of this beautiful art alive.
To help us fund our batizado please donate to our crowdrise at

One of the best things about playing capoeira is making new friends, re-uniting with old ones and being able to travel the world. Capoeira in Brasil with CBRJ, Mestra Magali.

Thank you CBLA,Mestre Boneco, and Professores Pavão and Chegado for opening up your doors to us. We had a great time and can't wait for the next one.

Capoeira não sou daqui, eu sou de outro lugar, minha vida é a capoeira, eu vou onde o berimbau chamar.. Traveling is one of the best ways to improve your capoeira game, meet new friends in the community as well as train with different Mestres. This month some of our CBNY team traveled to Los Angeles for CBLA's batizado. In the last couple of days all of them trained a lot, played a bunch and experienced the "axe" of a roda with many Mestres. Traveling is a great way to recharge your capoeira game get ready NYC we'll all be back next week, energized and ready to play.

Today was last day of our capoeira class with the students at AMPLIFIED! In the 6-week session the students worked hard and practiced mastering capoeira movements, songs and new Portuguese vocabulary. At our last class the energy was electric as all of the students used their kicks, esquivas and au's in the roda. Some students bravely led capoeira songs in roda, while others sang and clapped along adding to the awesome energy! Congrats on a successful semester. A+ in effort and in your capoeira skills both in movement and singing. Keep up the good work!
