I dare you to do something I'm waiting on you again
Let go
I got a feeling that it's time to let go
I said so
I knew that this was doomed from the get-go
You don't believe it We do this every time Seasons change and our love went cold Feed the flame 'cause we can't let it go Run away but we're running in circles

I like that you highlighted his sacred patience, behind the patience there is a lot of love. And as you rightly said the list goes on so I'm going to add another thing that is also not taken into account and that is the before and after of Rogue's self-esteem. Because it doesn't seem to me a detail of minor emotional and psychological impact to be courted and have the total devotion of a womanizer who loves physical contact, for so long.
THAT! I've read many times that that's seen as a negative thing. ''That Remy is pressuring her, harassing her, that she's at a disadvantage because she doesn't have the experience he has and he's taking advantage'' blah blah blah.
I think it's the opposite. I can understand Rogue's fear and insecurity, but to me, it didn't take long after they met for it to be anything more than a game or sex. That someone as experienced as Gambit, who can have almost any woman he wants whenever he wants, decided to invest his time and his own life in someone with so many insecurities and problems means a lot, and I think despite her resistance towards him, Gambit's insistence was a powerful balm for Rogue in many ways.

I challenge you to give a controversial opinion about Romy.
I'll tell you the first thing that came to mind.
Gambit ruined Rogue forever. And he did it in the worst way. And that's because if they broke up, she wouldn't be able to find someone who would fit in SO WELL (for better and for worse) with her like he did. There is and will be no one better. Remy has loved her in every way there is to love and more. His sacred patience, his willingness to make it work, space and freedom when she needed it but not abandoning herā¦and the list goes onā¦.

As a Gambit fan, Iāve never been so salty about Romy in my life. (This is going to come across very anti Rogue, very sorry I know sheās your fav but I need this off my chest)
After their wedding youād think things would get better but they never did, if anything itās worse. Heās made to be comic relief and an overall joke for Rogue and thatās just not Gambit. Heās incompetent every time heās with her and itās gross. Over the last few Rogue and Gambit runs itās clear as day she doesnāt love or respect him, sheās written like she hates him and thatās her husband? Nope. He needs to be free of her. Heās had so many fantastic relationships with people who genuinely like him, who are friends with him. Rogue and Gambit have only ever had sexual tension and pointless drama. They had their roll in the hay, tried the whole relationship for waaaaaay too long and it didnāt work. Romy is a toxic mess. Them being married hasnāt sloved it, nothing will. Gambit deserves better. She doesnāt love him and she never will. She doesnāt respect him or care about him unless heās with someone else or in the ā97 case, dead then sheās all about āher manā.
Gambit should be with someone who cares for him as a person not just as a sexy toy to parade around. He needs a healthy loving relationship and Rogue isnāt it. Not to mention all the mess with Mystique. When has Rogue ever defended him from her? Her mother has tried to kill him and has even sexually assaulted him yet thatās all in the past to play happy families for Rogue, Mystique still bitches and hates on him and now her wife does too and all we have from Rogue is āSheās my mama you have to trust herā YUCK! The trauma that man has been through for Rogue is horrendous. Roles reversed Gambit would be cancelled but Rogueās a hot woman so fans think itās cool to be abusive to your partner.
It feels like Romy fans are actually just Rogue fans because Remy is treated like dirt and thatās celebrated. Theyāre (not all of them, some ship and let ship and can appreciate the flaws in both characters and all of the writing) genuinely the worst comic fans in Marvel history, I think youāre the first Romy fan I havenāt blocked because you get his character. Itās so disheartening to see one of the best and most underrated characters used like a sex toy and a verbal punching bag. Justice for Remy because wheeew! Marvel wonāt give it to him.
Rogue is my favorite female character BUT Gambit is above all, I would kill and die for him. So your verbal diarrhea is totally welcome. There's not much I can contribute because you've said it all and it's (sadly) true. But I will highlight two things: ''Roles reversed Gambit would be cancelled but Rogue's a hot woman so fans think it's cool to be abusive to your partner.'' ''It feels like Romy fans are actually just Rogue fans because Remy is treated like dirt and that's celebrated.'' Although writers/director are to blame for warping both characters every chance they get and not knowing how to write a mature couple, I too always felt that it's part of Rogue being a bitch to Gambit, it's something she can't seem to help. In the case of x men'97 I would like that from season 2 and until the definitive end of the series, they stay apart, just as teammates. I think it's the best and the fairest thing to do. As for the comics, I honestly can't think of anyone Remy could be in a serious relationship with. Well, not that he should be with anyone. I've been wanting to see him solo for a long time, just him on his own adventures, more of the guild, etc.

Itās nice to see a fan of Gambit who can speak facts on the relationship and poor writing with Romy. I love Gambit but since his soloās heās very meh. Rogue, I prefer her with Magneto. It was healthy and they were equals unlike how she treats Gambit throughout comic history. At some points itās like she doesnāt even like him let alone love him but the writers enjoy her being this big bad boss girl wen actually sheās very jaded and vicious to Gambit. Them both being hot and southern doesnāt mean they fit because they donāt.
Gambit needs someone who actually likes him as himself and lets him be himself. She has him on a choke chain and itās bleugh! Let him go. It makes me sad to see what heās become in comic and itās bleeding into the tv series, he has no self respect at this point. No one would stay with someone who has done nothing but push them away and be jealous and spiteful to them for so long not to mention all the things sheās done to him in canon between Antarctica, her taking Ravenās side when she tried to seduce him as a Foxx and basically made him out to be a p*do and the time she put in a report for the Avengers about not trusting him.
It makes her look jaded and borderline manipulative throughout Romy, itās opened my third eye and kinda makes me resent her when sheās with him. The difference between her attitude to Gambit and her attitude in a relationship with Magneto or even Deadpool or that one time with Johnny Storm shows she only clings to Gambit because itās familiar. Theyāre no good for each other and after all this time I donāt even think they could be friends which is really sad. They could have been great friends and badass wing men for one another. Not to mention the whole Irene thing? Omg that was so gross. She didnāt even know him and hated on him because of Raven. I LOVE Irene and Raven, love them together but the trauma Gambit went through over the years at the hands of Raven. No way he could look at Rogue and not feel sick, I would.
Rogue is a better character when sheās not involved with anyone at all especially a love triangle. Marriage doesnāt suit her in my opinion, I feel like all the times sheās been more focused on saving the world and being an X-woman shows her growth beyond the fear of never being able to touch and āloveā someone. You can be loved and have love outside of relationships and sex. Personally Iād love to see her as an asexual. Her struggle as a young pretty woman who should have men fawning at her and does have that, her trying to fit into the normal box would mean a lot more if it turned out actually, she didnāt want it at all. Sheās happy having platonic love even after she gets control of her powers would have been a powerful metaphor. She stated in the Krakoa era she didnāt want children so why not give her an arc where sheās living her best life without a man. After all these years it would be a good to see her as herself for once.
Romy has been drawn out too long to a point itās spoiled both characters for a lot of genuine fans and not the people who know nothing of the history yet have the most to say. Like ship who you ship but let real dedicated fans have the last word on things that decide what happens in canon. Iām so meh about Romy when I used to adore them. Itās time for a change and Iām glad the Savage Lands itās getting a second shot, now give Gambit his second shot. Give him his solo or another relationship with someone who actually likes him. Who doesnāt try to put his personality and vices in a box at the back of the closet. Rogue has made him pathetic and thatās sad because he was such a funky guy before her. Marriage should have made him flourish, instead itās taken all his good points and made him the class clown. Why doesnāt he smoke anymore? Why doesnāt he play poker? Why doesnāt he have a life outside of his wife but she can do what she wants when she wants.
Gambit has a whole history and life away from the X-men and Rogue thatās been swept under the rug to showcase Rogue. He has a loving family in New Orleans yet the new Uncanny X-men hasnāt shown them once despite them literally being on the doorstep. Itās a bad look when theyāre doing a comic about Gambit going to Raven and Ireneās wedding after all the abuse heās suffered from them yet Rogue has no interest in his family, people who genuinely love Gambit. Itās giving Isolation. Itās giving heās in a bad relationship and his friends and family are being ostracised. Itās giving Rogue is kinda sorta abusive to him (sorry not sorry). At this point Iām gonna go ahead and say Gambitās family have a whole ass ban on Rogue being in their house. That would make sense. Even when he was exiled and would be killed going back to New Orleans he still made time for his family. His dad and Mattie Baptiste should be recognised as big time characters in his life. I think his brother is dead??? But he has a sister-in-law who Rogue accused of being one of his āwomenā in a a comic o canāt remember which one and she corrected her asap. I wish we got more of Gambitās life outside of being Rogueās accessory.
Romy shippers made me bitter about Romy. I think we all need a break from it, the characters have been almost damaged beyond repair while theyāre shipped together. Solo comics and an end to a ship that never really worked would do them both good. 2025 should be anti Romy era. Give the characters some life again.
Ohhh God, I read you andā¦. how hard it is to be a Romy fan! So hard! I don't like rogueneto at all. Apart from the age, they have many important differences, and I find them very boring together. They don't have any sparkle at all. It's undeniable that if you put on the scale all the good and all the bad that Rogue has done for Gambit (intentionally or not), it will lean towards the bad. And it's undeniable that with Remy it's the opposite. He has done much, too much, for her. It's always thanks to him that the relationship keeps going and that makes my blood boil because it doesn't have to be that way, it's not fair, it's not right. In spite of everything, in spite of me, I will never be anti Romy. I think they are good together, as teammates, friends and as a couple. They have many things in common, a chemistry impossible to ignore, but above all they have that special ''something'' that, for better and for worse, makes them work.
