En 1997, Julia Hill trepó a un árbol de secuoya californiana de 55 metros de altura y 1000 años de antigüedad y no bajó durante 738 días para evitar que los leñadores de la Pacific Lumber Company lo cortaran.

Finalmente llegó a un acuerdo con la empresa para preservar el árbol y una zona de protección de 50 metros a su alrededor.
