FINAL ASSIGMENT
First I chose my favorite book and one of my favorite albums that I thought would be fun to make a cover for. I then listened to the album and refreshed myself on the book to get an understanding of the feel of each piece of media. I then for the most part knew what I wanted to do fro there, I made my sketch, and the produced the final piece.
I chose interview with a vampire and I wanted to show the two different sides of the conversation. I though about how uncomfortable the interviewer Daniel would be and how he probably lit his cigaret but hasn't smoked much of it yet. I also wanted Louis the vampires hand to be calm and comfortable. I also chose a tape recorder from the time period.
With the silver scream album, Ice Nine Kills is one of my favorite bands and I was excited to do this piece. They're album covers usually have scenes and set like depictions with so I wanted to take a simpler, more symbolic route that was specific to each song and movie.

This is my album cover concept. I chose the album "Th Silver Scream" by Ice Nine Kills. It is a metal core album about horror movies so I chose a weapon or prop symbolic of each movie surrounding the script of the title.

Artist Statement
How did you approach your project ?
The approach I took to this project was first picking my colors and then I decided how much of each color I wanted in each square. I then chose. General theme I wanted to go with which was the four elements earth water air and fire.
b) Why did you choose those specific colors?
I chose a red a green a light blue and a pastel purple but the purple comes out on camera as pink. I chose these colors by taking inspiration from the color combination you sometimes see in clothing and photos from the 40s and 50s. I was influenced by the cherry red and teal color palette.
c) What preliminary work did you do to work out a successful idea?
I planned out my piece by making a digital piece on my phone using a color select tool. I used this tool to help me pick which colors I wanted, then I used paint to color match those swatches. I then drew onto of the swatches my plan for the project. Then I painted several sheets of paper each color, I let them dry, and then I started cutting and pasting.
d) How do you feel about the outcome of your design?
I believe that some of my edges could have come out cleaner, I used a pencil to help me sketch out some of the shapes and you can see it in a few of the shapes even after I tried to erase it. I also struggled with figuring out the order of each shape pasted onto the main swatch. But over all I think it definitely could have come out a lot worse.
e) How did your understanding of the Principles of art play a role ain helping you develop this idea?
Knowing the principals of art I knew that I wanted a variety of shapes, textures, smooth lines and sharp lines. I also knew I needed a color palette that was pleasing to the eye. I wanted the piece to be interesting to look at in a different way in every square.

Creating balance through value of white and black
Abstract expressionism is the style
These works are more intense and masculine then European art
Lots of large canvases and pieces that need to be painted on the floor making it more a physical and personal experience with he art.
“Forceful, gestural” marks are made using large brushes with lots of paint on the brush.
Art and mathematics are combines and are crucial to the production of art.
Agnes Martins work is very different to Franz Klines showing a softer more “Innocent and happy” then we see in Klines works
Beauty we experience in the world is only felt through how we see it and interpret it and the physical piece of what is beautiful does not need to be in front of us.
Art work can sometimes take a long time for an artist to discover a style and a way of making art that really seeks to them
Editing artworks is important and the final product never needs to be the final product.
Brief statement of what you understand about how FRANZ KLINE creates art.
How does he divide the page ?
He divides the pages asymmetrically but the weight of the composition is still balanced.
How is line changing from one stroke to the next?
The lines stagger almost like a ladder. They cross and overlap with each other.
Is it the same kind of line, thick , bold or thin and light?
We see different variations of line thickness and intensity through his work, some are done with a lighter hand and some are done with a stronger one. Some lines are done with thicker brushes and thinner ones.
