Working To A Brief - Self Development
Write 500 words (or more) on how you are going to use this project for your own self development. Due on Monday 12/03 at 4.30 on Moodle.
I will be contributing to this project as the cinematographer and editor, as I acquire multiple skills and experience with my chosen career. I am a photography student so I am aware of composition, colour and how to use a DSLR in manual. In addition to this, being a film student has also taught me how to edit footage and how to use software such as Adobe after effects and Premiere. I will apply all of the skills I obtain to the project I will be working on. My priority lies within executing my shots perfectly and creating a visual story that correlates with the soundtrack. I am excited to develop my current skills and see how I improve during this project. I plan on being as creative as I can be whilst regarding the shots and developing their concepts. The biggest challenge I will face whilst working on this project will be planning all of the shots to create a visual journey throughout the music video. I will meet the first deadline ‘28.03.2018′ by scheduling the filming days and keeping to the timetable created. Then I will focus on editing and keeping to task. Any improvements that are need will then be prioritised by me and the team. I will also regularly talk and check up on the pace that the whole team is working at. If there are any problems such as timetable clashes, we will face them as a team and find a solution together. This is a team effort and I am sure that everyone will work their hardest to create the best final outcome.

Briefs And Examples
Contractual Brief
“A contractual brief is between the client and employees. The contractual brief explains the duties required and how the company's schemes its work. The contractual brief explains how the much employee will receive. The contractual brief includes areas such as what the employee is agreeing before signing it. A contractual brief must also include the general liability insurance. it is a legal contract between advertising companies and its client which describes the duties required as well as the price and payments terms.”
Negotiated Brief
“A negotiated brief is when two parties have different ideas from each other but they both have to come to a decision by compromising and making sure that both the parties are happy by the decision.”
Formal Brief
“A formal brief is a written document containing specific and precise details about the goals that needs to be achieved. The brief gets straight to the point and doesn't contain any unnecessary detail or information. This type of brief is mainly aimed at a group of people or a business company rather than individuals. A formal brief is not always a legal document.”
Informal Brief
“An informal brief is done face to face through a meeting, all aspects of the brief must appeal to all members from the client list, the advantages of doing an informal brief is that it can create a relaxed environment and therefore be created a lot quicker, the disadvantages of an informal brief is that it can be seen as unprofessional and unclear.”
Commissioned Brief
“A commissioned brief is when a TV broadcaster, such as the BBC, employs an independent production company to produce a program for their schedule.”
Tender
“A tender brief is where several prospective contractors provide and estimated cost and a description of how the product may be produced. The proposals are discussed by the commissioner and one of the tenders drawn.”
Cooperative Brief

A Bad Standard CV Example
Is it well structured?
Is it visually pleasing?
what has been written, is it relevant?
This is a bad CV example for many reasons including an inappropriate email, no specific grades or subjects from secondary school. and finally there is no need for the different font. There is a lot of irrelevant information included in this CV, there is also alot of crucial information missing such as grades etc.

A Bad Standard CV Example
Is it well structured?
Is it visually pleasing?
what has been written, is it relevant?
There are multiple reasons this is a bad example of a CV. To start the email should be professional instead of ‘coolguy007′. A lot of his statements can be seen as vague which you would want to do your best to avoid. The structure isn't necessarily laid out nicely considering its not in chronological order either. This essay is full of flaws and is exactly what you need to avoid whilst making a CV.

A Bad Creative CV Example
Is it well structured?
Is it visually pleasing?
what has been written, is it relevant?
This is a bad example of a CV because the layout is very messy and not organised. For an employer to see this they bombarded with information. In fact the information on the CV is not all relevant, this is what you would like to avoid whilst making your own. This example has no structure and is not visually pleasing, it is incredibly messy and would not be a CV to would be used to get hired.

A Good Standard CV Example
Is it well structured?
Is it visually pleasing?
what has been written, is it relevant?
This is a good example of a CV because of how to the point it is. I like that there is not to much writing that bores the employer. It includes everything that is important, like his educational achievements and his work experience. This is a standard CV that would get you hired.

TASK 1: Research Portfolio
Part A:
Things to include:
How does each campaign relate to these 7 points:
1) Change attitudes: Change people’s views and opinions.
2) Raise awareness: Bring attention to the particular issue.
3) Challenge dominant representations and agendas: Fight against typical stereotypes that surround your issue and shine honesty and truth instead.
4) Strengthen community ties: Bring people together to confront the issue you are presenting.
5) Change voting behaviour: Political parties will try to convince you to vote for their party if they represent you and tackle the issues you want gone.
6) Infiltrate mainstream media: Get trending and blow up on social media (e.g. ALS ice bucket challenge).
7) Build relationships with subjects: (e.g. short 5 minute documentary of starving child struggling to feed his mother, at the end will ask for you to donate money towards him and others in a similar predicament).
Explain for example HOW it changes attitudes.
Part B:
Research 6 different social action campaigns on a variety of topics and answer questions on tumblr:
2SMART(LOCAL)
Website: http://www.2smart.co.uk/knives/
2SMART have a campaign that raises awareness to knife crime and educates people about the statistics and facts about the topic and how it touches upon our everyday lives in Essex. Although the website has a good message to put out, it could be presented more clearly in maybe a more aesthetically pleasing website. I feel that it doesn't feel very interactive and is rather dull with a strange colour palette. It’s not a visually appealing website and I feel that it would look and engage viewers more if it had a nice aesthetic.
EssexCommunityFoundation(LOCAL)
Website: http://www.essexcommunityfoundation.org.uk/grants/our-grantmaking/apply/youth-soc
‘The aim of this campaign is to increase youth social action by 50% by 2020 taking the percentage of young people that volunteer from 40% to 60%.’ is clearly stated on their website. It appears that they are bringing the community together in areas like Harlow, Epping and Uttlesford in which they work. although I think that the campaign could branch more onto social media and get more attention/publicity.
LabourManifesto(NATIONAL)
Website: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/0/at-a-glance-key-points-leaked-labour-manifesto/
NHSDiabetesWeek(NATIONAL)
Website: https://www.diabetes.org.uk/
Diabetes Week is an annual highlight in the Diabetes UK calendar, as it's a time when supporters are brought together to raise awareness of the condition and the vital funds required for future work. It educates people on the topic and certainly gives more of a highlight to people. The week appears to have a following on social media like Facebook and Twitter which once again raises awareness nationally for people around the country.
UNICEF(GLOBAL)
Website: https://www.unicef.org.uk/
Unicef currently has a campaign for refugee children and malnourished children.
WWF(GLOBAL)

Unit 31: Social Action
Social action is a method of social work that drives for structural change within the social system. An example of this would be posters on trains that allow people to call a sexual assault line if this incident has occurred regarding themselves or a person.
There are three different types of social action, local which concerns the local area, national which would concern the country and finally global which will specifically choose global issues.
In this unit we will investigate social action and existing social actions and in response will have to create work for a specific social action. A mature state of mind and understanding must be applied as some topics may be sensitive.

A Good Creative CV Example
Is it well structured?
Is it visually pleasing?
what has been written, is it relevant?
This is a lovely CV because even within the CV it shows their illustrative skill. The CV is certainly visually pleasing because of how well and clearly it is all laid out. Everything is titled and been given a place. I like the minimalist look to the CV as there is nothing unnecessary included. It states what programs she is good at using with a five star system. To conclude the CV is very impressive.

The layout for this CV is very clear and clean. It is presented as minimalistic and is straight forward. All of the information is nicely laid out , for example her A levels and degree on the left side under the title education. The CV explains her ability to work in a creative environment and the skills she obtains to do so. It does not contain any unnecessary information and is extremely aesthetically pleasing.

7 Rules For Writing Short Films
The Rules:
The shorter the better
Keep the practicalities of writing in mind
Make it visual
Find single moments
Tell a story
Engage the reader
Beware of cliches
Summary:
Whilst making your short films you will need to take everything into consideration, for example the short films script and narrative is vital, you will need to think about how much dialogue you will need to include. Another key point is to not indulge yourself in stereotypes like gangsters and zombies as they are overused. A story that is more personal would be preferred to instead. You need to stay grounded and think realistically about your idea’s and the likelihood of them working. A good way to tell stories are visually considering that we are using the medium film, and from basing the story off of a single moment allows there to be tension and for there to be conflict within your film which needs to be resolved. You need to make sure that the viewer/reader is engaged with your narrative and characters. you need to make sure that the audience feels connected with your character and cares for your film, a good way to do this is develop your character/characters in your short.

Sound Design Tips
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BWN3RJGUetk
1) What adjustments are made to the crew for Independent (indie) Productions? (like the films that you will be producing).
Adjustments that are made to a crew within an independent production are that people will have to take on multiple job roles because there are not enough people typically in independent productions compared to corporate productions such as 20th century fox.
2) Why does the supervising sound editor work with the director?
The supervising sound editor works with the director because it ensures them both that they have the same vision and aim.
3) What’s the ADR editor responsible for?
The ADR editor is responsible for the re-recording of dialogue that had encountered problems.
4) “sounds that are not motivated by some action within the scene” - What is this type of sound and why is it used?
Sounds that are not motivated by actions within a scene are known as non-diegetic sound. An example of this can be background music and is used to improve a scene.
5) Our recent tasks have given you the taste of what it’s like to be a Foley artist. What type of sounds are these? What’s the word to describe these types of sounds?
The word happens to be diegetic and examples of this are, footsteps, creaking, wind etc.
6) What problems might the Re-recording mixer encounter?
Problems that the re-recorder encounters are things like it being time consuming and it can cost a lot from their budget.
7) What 3 options do you have if the sound quality has been recorded poorly at the first steps?
The three options that you are given whilst editing with sounds that have been poorly recorded in the first steps are masking the audio, filtering the audio and re-recording.
