“You dont need to be sorry. Wasn’t your fault either.” He tried to joke, smirking at her. But the hurt was still there, evident behind his well practiced smile when it came to this topic. He threw his head back with laughter at her mom joke, “Oh right. Forgot about that. Are you gonna pull the whole ‘Because I said so.’ card on me too?” He joked, a genuine smile on his face now.

He nodded understandingly, letting her know that she didn’t have to say a word. It was amazing that he still knew her well enough to know what she was saying even though she wasn’t saying it. Or at least, he thought he did. She turned the subject back on his love life and he realized that he couldn’t keep it a secret forever, sadly. “I uh.. I was engaged at one point.” He offered finally, staring at the rim of his coffee mug as he traced it with his pointer finger. “But we didn’t work out.” Was all he offered up as to why the wedding hadn’t happened. It was rather pathetic, having a girl come to your hospital room to call off your wedding with her.

“Oh- No. I’m not- I’m fine. I don’t- You know…” she stumbled over her words, not quite sure where she was going at all. She hadn’t really been in a relationship ever. Maybe a few dates here and there, but with work and her son, most guys found it hard to keep up anyway. Plus, the fact that she had a kid in the first place tended to turn guys away.”What about you?” she asked, desperately trying to get the spotlight off of her failed love life.

Was she hinting at the fact that she believed she should’ve chosen him instead? Cam wasn’t quite sure what to make of her small speech. “You live, you learn.” He offered with a soft smile, knowing how lame that sounded. “That’s thing about being young Jill, we do things and then learn from them. You learned from your experience with Faust that you deserve a whole lot more than what he gave you and I know you’ll find someone who will be more than happy to give you what you deserve.” He reached across the table to give her hand a reassuring squeeze before letting go to hold onto his coffee, taking another sip.

“But that’s the thing: I was eighteen. I didn’t know what love was. Yeah sure, puppy love I guess. I don’t know. All I know is that after I got pregnant and went to college and grew up, I realized that there’s more to life than some guy who used me as a -pardon my French- fucktoy. There are bigger things in life like ambitions and desires and family and friends… People who don’t use you and drag you down. it took me a while to figure that out and I don’t blame him for anything. I love my son. I love the way my life has worked out since high school you know? But he’s just always going to be my friend and nothing more.I don’t want to go backwards. I’m an adult and I want someone who’s going to respect me enough to want me first and foremost as I am.” She huffed with a nod of her head, kind of proud of her little speech.

"Whoa whoa. Jill you don't need to apologize." He shook his head quickly and reached across the table to take her hand in his. "You don't have to apologize for your feelings. You loved him. You can't make your heart care for someone in that way if it's not there. We had a good friendship Jill and it's fine that you never felt more than that for me." He gave her hand a reassuring squeeze and a smile to go with it.

“yes you did.” Cam insisted, not realizing what she was thinking. They were both thinking about two separate things. He just meant she had made a big impact on his life while he was there. She was beating herself up over how it had all gone down. “You were one of my first friends at Monarch, Jill.”
It’s Just Coffee
“No I didn’t,” she laughed at herself mostly, “I made a fool of myself.” She had. The way she had treated him, it wasn’t fair. He didn’t deserve that, especially with the way he felt about her. He was the one that got away… She let him get away.

“Yeah, I remember him. I’m glad you were able to keep in touch with all them.” He smiled, nodding his head. Hearing her laugh, he couldn’t help but smile with amusement. She had always had a great laugh, he was just wondering what she was laughing about right now. Then she explained and he started to laugh. “Oh yeah, I remember that.” he nodded, “Made quite and impression on me.”
It’s Just Coffee
“That’s great,” she smiled, “Do you remember Colby? We still talk and now that Faust is around, I spend a lot of time around him and Elijah. They have a young daughter around Felix’s age. Her name is Claire and she is a sweetheart. Colby’s off in the marines still so we hear from him randomly until the holidays. That’s when he comes by to visit.” some friendships did last the drama. She laughed, thinking back to her short time with Cameron at Monarch. She realized she must look crazy to him in that moment and decided to explain, “Do you remember the first time we met and me offering to say ‘Draw me like one of your French girls Jack.’”

Cam nodded in agreement, “Yeah of course. Makes sense.” Jill was an amazingly talented artist and whatever she set out to do, she’d get it. At the mention of Addie, Cam’s eyes brightened and he nodded. “Yeah, we still keep in touch. She’s up in Jersey, so whenever she comes down we get to hang out.” The two of them had had crushes on one another, but when he moved away they both agreed long distance in high school wouldn’t work out.
It’s Just Coffee
“I majored in Piano Performance, but we both know that you don’t need a degree to work in the arts. It’s all about getting your work and your name out there. A degree helps though.” Jillian knew so many people who had roughed it for a while before they got to the big time. “Do you still keep in touch with anyone from Monarch? Addie?” Jillian asked, knowing that Cameron had gotten close to the young blonde. She hoped she had the right name though, she hadn’t spoken to the girl much while she was in school and hadn’t since.

Cameron smiled as she spoke, loving how she talked about her dream. He loved hearing people talk about things they were passionate about, and if it was about the arts - even better! “Yeah, I get it. I mean I’d much rather paint what I want to than be told what to paint.” he nodded his head understandingly before taking a sip of his coffee. “Did you major in directing?” he asked curiously, wondering if she had the schooling background for the job.
It’s Just Coffee
“I want to full on direct the show. I enjoy playing for them, don’t get me wrong, but being in charge and bringing your artistic vision to life like that… God, it gives me goosebumps just thinking about it. It’s just so exciting you know?” She merely smiled, not wanting to ramble on and on and embarrass herself. There were lots of things she wanted to talk to him about, but feared that she would make a fool of herself. Like how he almost cringed the other night when she asked if he was married. Or if he missed her. How could he? They didn’t even recognize each other when they met at the gallery.

“Phantom? Wow. That’s huge!” he smiled, clearly impressed and happy for her. “Directing the stage productions or the orchestra?” he asked, a bit confused. It was probably a stupid question, but he didn’t know much about how those things were done. He just liked watching them, other than that, he didn’t know much about them.
It’s Just Coffee
“No, I worked a lot of Off Broadway stuff and moved to Phantom of the Opera and then I did Wicked. It’s been quite a ride so far, but I’m having a lot of fun. I’m actually trying to get into directing. It’s kind of tough, but it’s something I really want to start.”

“Yeah, I have friends here. A lot of them are in the art world, like me.” he nodded a bit, smiling. His ex-fiancé he had met through a friend of his, Maxwell and thankfully even though the wedding was called off, the two of them were still able to remain friends. Although it was a bit awkward when they all went out in big groups and Max, their mutual friend invited both of them along. He kept that part out though. He nodded a bit as she spoke, listening. “So is Wicked the first musical you’ve done on Broadway before or have you done others?” he asked.
It’s Just Coffee
“And what about life in general? You have friends here or is it strictly business?” She had friends here. Faust, Elijah, a lot of her co workers turned out to be good friends too. She didn’t think she would make any friends here. She hadn’t had the best track record with those, but the ones she did have were good to her. “I went to school there. Once I finished, I knew a majority of the work I needed was in New York so we moved. There really wasn’t anything there in Boston, you know?”
