that moment when you’ve got your story and characters mostly laid out and then out of nowhere your brain goes GUESS WHAT, WORLDBUILDING and you spend the next several days making new characters and trying to flesh out their backstories and figure out how they’d interact with the main cast and in the process create more lore and worldbuilding than you’d previously thought you needed

update: i just checked and Morpho Knight is referred with it, not they/them. so

Y’know, it kinda bugs me that the Kirby fandom repeatedly attempts to erase the closest things we have to Nonbinary characters in the series with Fecto Elfilis and Morpho Knight.

I don’t know, the choice of pronouns for these two feel deliberate, especially after Morpho Knight’s appearance in Forgotten Land, and even Elfilis using they/them pronouns to refer to themself with while controlling Leongar. I just wish a little more effort was put in when talking about these two

For Fecto Elfilis it’s slightly justifiable, since Elfilin, being half of Fecto Elfilis, uses he/him pronouns, while they/them is used to refer to his other half, Fecto Forgo. So Fecto Elfilis is probably he/they rather than just straight they/them. We are technically using one of his two preferred pronouns.

Morpho Knight on the other hand is a lot less justifiable. Not only are they referred to exclusively with neutral pronouns, they’re also?? a deity of some kind (implied)??? which even for conservative audiences should give them a valid reason to have no gender and therefore use they/them?

my autism/ADHD train of thought is the most bizarre thing ever. a few weeks ago i was having dinner with my family (steak, green beans, potatoes, biscuits, very solid meal) and my dad goes “These potatoes are really good!”

i don’t remember the exact wording of the next sentence out of my mouth, but it was about the live-action Dora movie.

now, there’s a very valid logic behind this, but the sheer absurdity of jumping from potatoes to the Dora movie absolutely baffled my parents. so of course i spent the next ten minutes explaining how i managed to jump to that topic:

“These potatoes are really good!”

My hyperfixations come in cycles, where one will suddenly be more prominent than the rest for anywhere between a few weeks and a few months. When this happened, the lead hyperfixation was Portal.

GLaDOS gets put inside a potato battery for most of the back half of the second game (connection to potatoes).

One of my favorite of GLaDOS’ running gags is the way she consistently refers to her neurotoxin as “deadly neurotoxin”. I think she only drops the “deadly” one time ever and it’s right after she just said “deadly neurotoxin” twice in the same sentence.

The word “neurotoxin” then reminded me of a gag that happens early into the live-action Dora movie (which i’ve only seen about the first 30-ish minutes of) where she does the classic “Can you say ____?” thing with the word “neurotoxicity”, but her father is just confused and ends up looking at the camera and going “Neurotoxicity!” (this is like the only thing i remember from the movie)

and yeah! it makes a little bit of sense when you explain it all, except for the fact that my brain went through that entire bizarre line of logic in less than ten seconds.

anyway the moral here is if i say something weird in conversation something like this probably happened

one time i changed a single line from Hamilton and my sister got really mad at me for it for some reason. i don’t understand why, all i did was change two words and it not only enhances the rhyme scheme it also makes that line easier to say.

the line in question came from Stay Alive: “I shoot back, we have resorted to eating our horses”. i changed “shoot back” to “retort” so that but rhymes with “George”, “forces”, “resorted”, and “horses” in that line and the line before, and it doesn’t change the meaning of the line at all.

so why did my sister get mad at me? no idea, but she was very opposed to the idea that i could do slightly better than Lin-Manuel Miranda at writing one single line. like bro. i’m a songwriter too (albeit not a professional one). writing good lines is part of my livelihood. it’s not that big a deal. i noticed a single flaw (that wasn’t even a flaw) in one line of one song of a multi-hour musical, chill out.
