you always had a love for love. wanting to be on the receiving end of it and giving it the same to the person you would be dating. but after boys continuously toying with your emotions, you decided to stop trying and focus on your goals. one of the saddest things for you was never having a valentine.

in actuality, it shouldn’t have made you as sad because you get to save money but it made you feel lonely. often wondering if it was you that made people lead you on. maybe you were boring or simply not out there enough? whatever it was, you stopped searching for love.

“are you going to the vday party ashton is having on sunday?” kaykay asked while taking her seat across from you at the table.

“hmm maybe, it’s just gonna be super awkward knowing everyone has a date already.”

“you can always ask calum.”

you always thought calum was attractive but who wouldn’t think he’s attractive? he has a killer smile and knows how to make a person laugh. his energy is always hype and there’s never a dull moment.

“my best friend calum? kay, he doesn’t like me like that.”

“doesn’t like you? girl please, that boy is like head over heels for you. and i know you have feelings for him too!”

“we’re best friends, it’s not like that.”

the door opens and you hear the loud voices of your best friends. sometimes, you definitely regret giving them the key to your house.

“don’t you just love unannounced visits?” you playfully rolled your eyes at the boys.

“oh come on sweetheart, I know you always make an exception for me,” calum throws you a smile and pulls you into his arms.

“whatever you say cal. how are you doing though?”

“i love how they just forget they’re not alone,” luke whispered to the others making them laugh.

“what’s so funny?” calum turns towards the other still keeping one arm around your shoulders.

“just looking at how cute you guys are,” michael says.

“yeah, we are super cute. more so her,” he kisses the top of your head and let’s you go.

“anyways we came to drop cal off and i wanted to spend time with my girlfriend,” ashton says while grabbing kaykay’s hand.

“thanks for taking her away from me ashton. i love you kay, we definitely have to do this again.”

“oh yeah for sure! i love you too y/n,” she gives you a quick wink and walks out the door with everyone else.

the two of you decided to chill out for the rest of the day watching movies and eating take-out. pretty much the perfect way to spend time together.

“so cal, do you have a date for ashton’s party?” you knew asking this question could either go really well or south really quick. you secretly wanted him to say no then maybe you guys could go together.

“i’m actually planning on asking this one girl that drives me crazy in the best way,” calum smile gets brighter and yours disappears.

“oh. um, that’s great.”

“i’m really nervous to ask her honestly.”

“calum, you shouldn’t be nervous. any girl would be lucky to have you as a date.”

“i hope so, i really like her.”

the silence was killing you and now all you wanted was to be alone. it kinda hurt to hear someone you like talk about someone else.

“hey calum, i’m really tired. i think you should leave.”

“are you okay?” of course, he would notice the mood dropping.

“yeah, just got a lot to do tomorrow.”

“well i’ll see you later yeah?”

“yup,” calum wraps his arms around you and hugs you tightly. once he lets go and leaves, you immediately jumped in bed wanting to forget the conversation all together.

sunday, february 14th, 2021

throughout the whole day, you ignored calum’s text messages. as selfish as it sounds, you didn’t want to know his progress with the girl. a girl he never even talked about before.

for the party, you decided to wear a light pink dress with ruffled shoulder sleeves and black converse. something simple and something you can move in. you only wanted to show up for a little and then leave so it wouldn’t be too awkward for you.

“y/n babes, you made it,” sierra grabs your arm as soon as you stepped into the kitchen.

“happy valentine’s day si!”

“happy valentine’s day right back at ya. but right now, we need to talk.”

“about what?” she gives you the look that already tells you she knows everything.

“calum said you were avoiding him.”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” luke walked in at the right time for you to end the conversation.

“well this was a nice talk. bye sierra and hello luke,” you gave a quick wave and walked off.

“wait, y/n come back!”

“huh? i can’t hear you.”

you made rounds talking to everyone you knew still successfully avoiding calum who you haven’t even seen come to think of it. but after a while, you just wanted to be alone. seeing all the couples made you sad, so you sat in ashton’s backyard next to the sunflowers.

“I knew i could find you here,” calum walks up to you with his hand behind his back.

“don’t you have a date to entertain?”

“i didn’t ask her yet,” he sits next you on the grass and still keeping one hand behind his back.

“why?”

“well, she’s kinda been avoiding me,” you look up at him to see him already looking at you.

“calum.”

“y/n.”

“are you playing with me?”

“no, i really wanted to ask you to be my valentine earlier today.”

“that makes me feel like a shitty person.”

“no, it’s okay. it’s normal to be jealous,” you guys shared a laugh and you pushed his shoulder.

“oh shut up.”

“so y/n, will you be my valentine?”

“yes calum i would love to be your valentine.”

he gently grabs your face with his free hand and kisses you. you couldn’t express how happy you were. calum sparked so many butterflies in your stomach.

“oh and i got you this rose,” he hands you the single rose and you smiled up at him.

“it’s beautiful, thank you calum.”

“the prettiest flower for the prettiest girl,” you blushed at his words and hugged him.

“now, my lady let’s party,” you nodded at him and grabbed his hand. this night definitely turned from really sour to being in the arms of the guy who you adored. truly a valentine’s day to remember.

summary: in which you guys slip up and announced your pregnancy.

by the time you woke up in the morning, calum was already up on his phone scrolling through social media with his hand carefully laying on your six month old baby bump. he turns his head towards you due to your movements and grins.

“good morning gorgeous. how ya feeling?”

“good morning handsome, i’m doing okay. my back hurts a bit though,” you rubbed his shoulder and pecked his lips.

“did you want a massage really quick?” you loved that calum always is helping towards you. it made you feel good even when you had bad days. shaking your head at him, you sat up slowly.

“no but fancy a shower with your overly pregnant wife?” he nodded sitting his phone down to mimic your actions and helps you get out the bed. calum guides you to the bathroom and closed the door. he kisses your head and steps into the shower with you.

you guys got dressed in clean clothes for the day. calum had on black nike sweatpants with the matching hoodie and you decided on leggings and an oversized sweater. nothing too tight that’ll bother you later on. calum met you downstairs to the kitchen to see what you guys wanted to eat.

“what is baby feeling today?” calum goes to put food in duke’s bowl along with filling up his water bowl. “strawberries, do we have any more babe?”

“yeah, there’s only like a few left. but we can get some more after the appointment,” you walked to open the refrigerator and duke was right there sitting at your feet staring up at you.

“aw hi duke, i can’t really pick you up being that it’s hard to bend down but i didn’t forget about you,” duke walked right away hearing his bowls being sat down on the ground.

“please tell me you aren’t only gonna eat strawberries.”

“i’m not really hungry cal. don’t be mean,” you poked out your bottom lip causing him to chuckle kissing your forehead. “just tryna make sure you’re actually eating food and not just snacking.”

“you’re such a dad babe,” you pop a strawberry in your mouth and smiled. “well duh, i’m preparing for my little moon,” he places a hand on your stomach and the baby kicks lightly. calum’s smile grew even harder, he loved moments like this and couldn’t wait to hold them in his arms.

“my little moon, it’s your daddy! me and mommy are so excited for you to come out. your uncles and aunts get to find out your gender today! me and mommy are going to wait though,” you felt your eyes watering, maybe it was just the hormones but it makes you feel better seeing calum just as excited and attentive with the whole process.

“kind of jealous our bean likes your voice better than mine,” calum places a quick kiss to your covered stomach, “seems like i’m favorite parent so far. haha loser,” he sticks his tongue out at you causing you to roll your eyes.

“you’re gonna be the best dad cal,” you kissed his cheek making him blush a bit.

after the appointment, ashton went to pick up the envelope with the baby’s gender. only family and close friends knew you were pregnant. you guys had wanted to enjoy these little moments alone, seeing as pregnancy was a big step in your marriage.

calum was more then excited, he couldn’t wait to hold not only the love of his life in his arms but his child too.

“oh i’m definitely going to be the favorite uncle.”

“ashton, you are wrong! it’s going to be me.”

“boys boys, don’t kid yourself. it’s going to be me.”

“can i ask why the three of you are arguing over being the favorite uncle to my child?” calum looked between the three screens laughing.

“mate this isn’t a laughing matter. you’re supposed be on my side! what happened to us being soulmates,” ashton dramatically waves his arms around.

“we’re hanging up now. gonna make sure this one eats something,” calum shook his head with a smile. “bye guys! love you.”

sitting in the comfortable silence, you hear duke’s paws tapping the floor and watched as he jumped onto the couch. he lays his head on your bump like he always does.

“so protective of his momma,” he reaches over to rub duke’s head, “what would you like for lunch love?”

“hmm surprise me.”

calum kisses your cheek and walks to the kitchen to get you both something to eat. in the meantime, you take a short video of duke to post on your close friends story.

you guys had went straight to sleep after eating lunch together and talking about how the nursery was going to look. the video you post earlier wasn’t even a thought in your head anymore.

“baby, please turn your phone off.”

“cal, yours is doing the same,” both of you frustrated with being woken up, you guys check your phone to see tons of congratulations and different post.

“oh my god, calum i announced the pregnancy by mistake! i’m so sorry, fuck i thought i posted the video to my close friends story,” you were overwhelmed with feeling like he’d be upset with you. which you figured he kinda had a right to be upset, you wouldn’t blame him if he was.

“hey hey, angel it’s okay. sure it’s announced a little early but better everyone hears it from us and not some random person.”

“i’m really sorry babe.”

“stop apologizing, it’s not a big deal and plus the video is cute,” you chuckled and wiped the loose tears that fell.

calum decided to post a picture to instagram that you guys had taken awhile ago. you guys were sitting on the grass with hands on the baby bump and the prettiest sunset in the background. he typed out a quick caption before posting it and letting you see.

“you heard the news here first people. my sunshine and i are finally adding to our family. we decided to keep it a secret with close friends and family because it was a moment we were waiting for. we talked about this way before we even gotten married and now it’s happening. angel, you look incredibly gorgeous and i love you with all my heart forever. thank you for the congratulations, we greatly appreciate it :)”

“i love you more angel,” you guys shared a passionate kiss and embraced each other in hugs. it was a journey you guys couldn’t wait to tackle.
