Different people have different metrics for what makes a TV show/movie enjoyable to them. I, for instance, value good characters over a good plot. If you give me great characters then i will endure a LOT of shitty plot for them. But a friend of mine can watch shows with the worst, most boring/unpleasant/non-dimentional characters in history --- so long as the plot is good. Neither of us understand the other, lmao.

It's with a heavy but hopeful heart that I watch Palestinian families fundraise on here, slowly accumulating the precious little money to go around that they need to survive. However, not everyone is so lucky. A lot of Palestinians that have not had that kind of luck, that did not get early verification, that did not get massive platforms behind them from large bloggers, have approached me in my inbox, asking me kindly to do what I can for them. It kills me that I have so little to give myself, but I've seen this platform collectively raise enough to change someone's life. I've made a list of Palestinian fundraisers that are extremely low on funds, in the hope that drawing attention to people who have not been lucky at all can help turn that luck around. Hello, my friend. 

I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to you with a heavy heart and an urgent request for your help. My family is in a perilous situation due to the ongoing war and the famine we have endured for more than 10 months. We are facing immense challenges, so please read my story as if I were a member of your family, if my family is your family. 

I'm a father of 3 children striving with my wife to secure a decent life for our children. After October 7th, our life took a drastic turn with the commencement of the cruel war on Gaza. Unfortunately everything I owned is completely lost after my house and business got bombed and destroyed. We are currently suffering slow death and living a devastating life in Gaza. 

Therefore, I have created a campaign to help my family rebuild their lives and meet our basic needs for food, drink, and other essentials in these harsh conditions. doctors complain about doctor google the same way they complained about medical treatises written for a popular audience ever since printed material became more widely accessible. which is to say, it has very little to do with the specificities of the internet and a great deal to do with their fear of losing prestige and practitioner privilege. if it was actually about providing accurate information they should be campaigning for things like rigorous medical education accessible to all, but they won't, bc that would threaten their bottom line and epistemological authority. don't let them play coy about this

it's basically eugenics shit. "intelligence" is an incoherent, unmeasurable conglomerate of vague cognitive skills which do not correlate to actual life outcome and "IQ" and "EQ" correlate more strongly with race and socioeconomic status than with ability to problem solve, who would've thunk. The only "natural advantage" worth discussing is how you have developed to think over the course of your life from environment + choices and how it factors into things you do, ability/disability and how much disposable time and income you have to become "talented" at things to begin with

those posts that mourn a person from antiquity or whatever theoretically 'missing out' on what their modern 'true skill and passion' would have been are so funny. it takes the stance that skills and affinities are inherent, latent things within a person and not caused by training up a skill or how a person learns. this is consistent with a chunk of the user base being people who feel like they can't learn anything new and think they are are bad at everything, and thus wish to live in some idealized past moment where they had the exact skills to become successful
