MOLLY ANNABELL WATSON
FACECLAIM: Taylor Schilling AGE: 29 BIRTHDAY: April 2nd OCCUPATION: barista/waitress at cafe kismet SEXUAL ORIENTATION: bisexual ROMANTIC ORIENTATION: homoromatic
BIOGRAPHY
Molly Watson is a walking southern belle turned city girl stereotype, blonde, privileged, too sweet and polite it’s almost obnoxious. Born to very young parents, the girl ended up in foster care by the time she was 2, something that she hardly remembers. At 2 and a half, she was adopted by Lucille Wallace, an older, widowed woman who’s extreme traditional values merged easily with their location.
Due to the way her pseudo mother went about life, her trek from childhood to adulthood was easy. She was white, intelligent, and Lucille had a huge sum of inheritance money that went right into their pockets. However, growing up deep in the conservative south didn’t always bring happy memories. It was hard for Molly to be her true self, with her sexuality, support of differences, and desire to leave the opposite of her values behind always getting shut down. Because of this, Molly spent all of her college years quiet, submissive, and unable to express herself.
After graduating from college, the 22 year old was suddenly left with more freedom than she had ever had before, with Lucile passing away. Suddenly, she had the freedom to relocate, and even with a large sum of inheritance money sitting in a safe at the bank, Molly chose the city of Chicago, heading out there right after her 23rd birthday. Her adjustment to city life was difficult at first, not being used to the much larger population of chicago, and seeing all kinds of genders, races, and indenties walking down the street all the time was almost a culture shock for her. The extreme differences of her two residences have caused Molly to be quite hesitant in making interpersonal relationships. Not having any sort of existing or close remaining family members, friends, or knowledge about her biological parents, Cafe Kismet seemed like a good enough place to work, and she began working there a year into her new city lifestyle; Its quaint charm reminding her of her roots, but the bustling life of Chicago being only a door away.
FAMILY INFORMATION
Lucille Watson never had any children of her own, or very many existing siblings. Widowed at the age of 60, she took it upon herself to adopt a little girl, even if she realistically wouldn’t have too many years left to raise any more generations. Cassandra and Keith Watson were your typical high school romance, with one night of passion giving the much more than they bargained for. Not realizing the responsibilities of raising a child at the ages of 16 and 17, they gave up their child for adoption.
AESTHETIC
Molly keeps her blonde hair pulled back in a braid while she’s working, and when she’s not wearing the said work attire, her wardrobe remains quite preppy and classy. Besides double piercings in both ears, the blonde has no tattoos, and sticks to the same sort of outfits each day.

☕ APPLICATION ACCEPTED
Thank you, Laura, for your amazing application! We cannot wait to start writing with you and hope that Vanessa Delfina Giardi finds herself welcome here at Cafe Kismet. Please follow the new comer’s checklist and send in your link within 24 hours. Welcome to Cafe Kismet!
OUT OF CHARACTER
ALIAS: Laura AGE: 31 TIMEZONE: EST ACTIVITY LEVEL: 5/10, I work full time during the day! ANYTHING ELSE: removed.
BASIC INFORMATION
FULL NAME: Vanessa Delfina Giardi FACECLAIM: Karlie Kloss AGE: 25 BIRTHDAY: June 5th OCCUPATION: Supermodel, part time BFA student at SAIC SEXUAL ORIENTATION: Out Homosexual ROMANTIC ORIENTATION: Homoromantic
BIOGRAPHY
Much of Vanessa’s life was dedicated to modeling. Upon hitting puberty, her prodigious height caught the eyes of several Manhattan based fashion designers; all of whom clamored for Vanessa to pose for their catalogues and lookbooks. Her mother, enamored by the thought of having a supermodel daughter, instantly took the reins as Vanessa’s agent and manager. And by the time Vanessa was 18 years old, she was already walking in the New York and London fashion weeks, as well as being the face of Chanel. However, there was still a niggling feeling inside that left the young model feeling unfulfilled despite her runaway success. Though she was humbled and grateful, this life wasn’t what Vanessa wanted. At all.
In truth, Vanessa wanted to be an artist. Specifically a sculpture artist. Part of her rider always included small packages of clay or other building materials; the act of shaping something into something new was very therapeutic to Vanessa, and it greatly eased the intense stress of her schedule. The lifelike miniature figurines she’s made have been sold at auction for thousands of dollars–gobbled up mostly by her fans, but no one can deny her skill.
Thanks to her early career, Vanessa never attended a proper high school; instead she’d been taught by tutors while traveling the globe, and she finally earned her GED when she was 21. Now that she is 25, she has made the (controversial) decision to step away from the catwalk and finally begin pursuing her dream of becoming an artist. After applying to a slew of art schools across the country, Vanessa has decided to attend SAIC in Chicago part time to begin making her dream reality. This life change hasn’t been without bumps in the road, as she’s all but divorced herself from her overbearing mother for the first time in her life, but thus far, she’s managed to juggle her course load and modeling commitments. Now firmly into her second semester at SAIC, she has become a frequent patron of Cafe Kismet, relieved that she has a safe haven within the city where she can blend in with the crowds and disappear into relative anonymity. Though she sticks out like a sore thumb, there’s an unspoken pact between herself and the Cafe Kismet clientele to respect her privacy, and she’s wholly appreciative of it.
FAMILY INFORMATION
Vanessa is the oldest child (of two) of Kendra and Phil Giardi. Kendra is a ruthlessly efficient talent agent/momager who is incredibly image conscious.
AESTHETIC
Vanessa is 62″, and dresses in very classy styles. Her wardrobe is vast, and she adores every piece that has been given to her. She has no tattoos, and two piercings in each ear; she didn’t dare risk her modeling career by adding anything else to her body.

☕ APPLICATION ACCEPTED
Thank you, Austin, for your exceptional application! We cannot wait to start writing with you and hope that Bodie Mercer Holliday finds herself welcome here at Cafe Kismet. Please follow the new comer’s checklist and send in your link within 24 hours. Welcome to Cafe Kismet!
OUT OF CHARACTER
ALIAS: Austin AGE: Really old TIMEZONE: CST ACTIVITY LEVEL: 5/10 – work full time. available mobile some days but usually at night and weekends. ANYTHING ELSE: removed
BASIC INFORMATION
FULL NAME: Bodie Mercer Holliday FACECLAIM: Brit Marling AGE: 32 BIRTHDAY: 19 February OCCUPATION: Restauranteur / Executive chef SEXUAL ORIENTATION: Homosexual ROMANTIC ORIENTATION: Homoromantic
BIOGRAPHY
Nobody wants to live up to a legacy of mediocre failure. But Bodie, while vocally the exact opposite of her mother in every single way possible, is more like Holly Holliday than she’d ever care to admit. Maybe it was the years they spent on their own before any of her siblings were brought into the world. Maybe it was the time she spent as a child in bars and concert halls throughout the country that groomed her to be fearless. Maybe it was being forced to have a hand in raising her siblings before she could herself be raised that made her resentful of too much commitment while simultaneously loathing anyone that couldn’t hold up their own.
Being the oldest Holliday sibling wasn’t easy. She spent so many years as her mother’s only focus – besides her music career that seemed doom to never take off – that by the time her siblings came around Bodie hated it. And she hated that her mom seemed determined that Bodie would be a good enough surrogate while she still lived like a #wanderlusting teenager. And while she never felt particularly close to her siblings, she didn’t dislike them enough to not give a damn. So they packed in like a ragtag clan of Very Blonde nomads and kept to themselves, figuring out early life while Holly figured out how to be an adult. Or whatever her definition of adult was that week.
By the time Holly relocated to Los Angeles for good, Bodie felt something close to relief. While some things stayed eternally the same in LA, some things changed. Her mom became a substitute teacher for the easy hours and had (some) money! There was a nanny who helped run the house! Bodie wasn’t obligated to stay home and figure out how to feed two other mouths every day. She could finally be a person outside the siblings she’d been forced to reluctantly see more like children. So she was.
The age gap between her and her siblings was enough to enable Bodie to be something of a lone wolf. They weren’t estranged, per se, but they weren’t close like Hallmark cards but they weren’t dysfunctional either. They were just there. When needed in the important times of course, but not on the list of people Bodie would think about wanting to talk to each day. She spent more time finally figuring out who she was and who she could be. That’s when the Holly in her reared its head again.
The roots of LA felt too permanent. So Bodie wandered. She spent the first few years out of high school voluntarily homeless ( however “homeless” one could be with a perfectly nice, modest home in the San Fernando Valley to fall back on when she got bored ) and traveling on trains with other little groups of “nomads.” They were all ( reluctantly ) privileged kids with nothing better to do, but Bodie feels like she grew during it. She got to see a lot of the country in the way her mom would have back in the day of traveling for gigs, but she’d never tell anyone that that might have been a reason she went in the first place.
After doing her own #wanderlusting ( that she would never admit was #wanderlusting ), Bodie decided to move to Chicago. 1.) It wasn’t LA. 2.) It wasn’t LA. 3.) It wasn’t LA. The food scene was booming, and Bodie had grown accustomed to working in kitchens through her travels as they were easy to flow into and out of. So, without any formal education, she worked through the ranks of some of the most hip, innovative kitchens in town. She used the Holliday charm on the right people and made food creatively enough to leave an impression.
It took almost ten years since she first left home, but Bodie eventually got enough seed money from investors and other connections to open up a restaurant of her own. It’s nothing particularly fancy, but it’s trendy and popular enough that she feels like she’s already surpassed her mother’s middling legacy. Not a Destination yet but also not a hole in the wall, Bodie’s proud of herself and happy to serve the neighborhood clientele she does.
With her restaurant on the same block, Bodie is a frequent customer of Cafe Kismet, stopping in before, during and after work for coffee breaks, commiserating the woes of food industry customer service, replenishing her caffeine stores and enjoying the low-key, almost family-type vibe she was allowed to choose.
FAMILY INFORMATION
Bodie is the oldest child ( of three ) born to Holly Holliday. Holly is a musician of very middling acclaim, mostly playing bar gigs and small concert halls in the already crowded LA music scene. She works a lot of odd jobs in order to pursue her music passion and, as such, is rarely available. The younger two Holliday children are full siblings while Bodie has a different father.
AESTHETIC
Bodie’s aesthetic is fairly simple. She picks simple pieces in classic color palettes. When she’s not grunging it up on a long-study day or after a long night in a kitchen, she’s a bit of a walking J. Crew catalog. Tailored blouses, soft cardigans, patterned, delicate sweaters. Her blonde hair is long and, if pulled up, it’s usually done so with about four pens stabbed through a messy bun. Loose braids are a common hairstyle. She does need glasses or contacts to read, and a pair of simple tortoise-shell frames are her signature. She has several tattoos but most are delicate and small and easily hidden by her clothes.

AVALON ECHO HILL
FACECLAIM: Anna Kendrick AGE: 26 BIRTHDAY: January 2nd OCCUPATION: Resident cartoonist/IT gal. SEXUAL ORIENTATION: Pansexual ROMANTIC ORIENTATION: Panromantic
BIOGRAPHY
Avalon Echo Hill was the product of a broken condom between her mom (a WASP from the South, old money heiress) and her sugar baby (a gorgeous yet daft man who needed money) and she was the only thing they had in common. Somehow, they decided to stay together and live in the giant colonial estate in Connecticut that Echo’s mother had inherited. But they slept in different rooms, lived in different sides of the mansion and were barely seen together. For a long time, that’s how the young girl thought all couples were.
Echo’s mother wanted her child to be the perfect debutante to parade around in her social circle at the country club: graceful, polite, lover of ballet and dresses. But instead, she got stuck with scrawny, asthmatic and antisocial Echo. Who disappeared for hours, misread social cues and wasn’t afraid to tell the ambassador of Australia that he looked like an angry potato. Their relationship was far from ideal.
But Avalon was relentless in her trying to mold Echo, so the redhead’s lonely childhood was spent grounded, getting lectured and forced into clothes and events that she didn’t give two flying fucks about and just grew to despise with every passing day. All those things molded Echo’s personality into a bitter one; angry, dripping with biting sarcasm, distrustful, introverted and always longing to escape.
Her dad was her occasional saving grace. He was always traveling to the most wonderful places on Echo’s mom’s dime, saying that he was trying to find more things to invest in. Avalon may have bought it, but Echo wasn’t an idiot and she was very skilled with computers. Pictures of her dad piled upon a bunch of scantily clad women in a beach didn’t look like the kind of business her family was interested in. But that wasn’t Echo’s problem. She looked forward to the few days a month that she got to see her dad. Because he always brought with him the most amazing stories and souvenirs. Tales from faraway lands that Echo tried to imagine and later at night, she tried to draw.
Turns out, that besides being gifted with computers, Echo was quite the talented artist. Her mom of course, tried to get her to draw still lifes and portraits, and Echo ended up cartooning her mother in very unflattering ways. She had notebooks upon notebooks full of doodles of her unsatisfying life and it was very cathartic for the girl.
Echo getting into college was definitely a surprise for everybody, thinking that she was so rebellious against anything normal that she would just trainwreck through life. But the girl was smart and most importantly, college meant that she could finally escape. Not feeling good enough to try for an artistic major, Echo opted for Computer Sciences and surprisingly scored a full ride to Illinois Institute of Technology, after dazzling the faculty with some amateur facial-recognition software she had developed.
All of this led to one final argument with her mother, who disapproved with Echo’s career choice. It was the final straw for both of them and two days after graduating high school, Echo was hoping on a plane with two bags and the little cash she managed to get from emptying her accounts before her mother cut her off completely. It was scary but the freedom she had always wanted was finally hers.
College was heavenly. Echo was in the top percentile of her class and worked at the IT department on campus. Even while being socially awkward, she had a couple of friends to hang out with and otherwise she was perfectly content with staying home and coding her own creations and animating her own cartoons.
But graduating college signaled the end of the dream. It all started with a junior Software Development position at a huge firm that was supposed to be Echo’s but she got too cocky. Homeless, unemployed and lost, she had to move fast to get back on her feet before she even started thinking about asking for help (Echo does not ask for help). It was hard for a couple of months, crashing on couches and going to interview after interview, desperate for some stability. In the end, she found it. A dull job as a computer systems analyst and programmer. It’s the most boring thing in the world and she hates it, being barely enough to pay the bills for her tiny shoebox studio apartment and her perpetually empty fridge. She took the job thinking it was only temporary but it’s been almost three years and she’s still there. Wearing her mandatory blazer and working the 9-5. Truth is, she’s grown too scared of rejection, even if it means giving up on her dreams.
Echo stumbled upon Kismet on a rainy afternoon and she instantly fell in love with the café. Located exactly between her workplace and her apartment, she started spending every free minute she had amongst the comfy seats and the fast wifi. Her presence didn’t go unnoticed by kind Mr. Vesper, who somehow wormed his way into Echo’s cold heart. The two developed a rapport finding in each other company and solace they didn’t have. Herbert went as far as making Echo the resident cartoonist for Kismet (after she drew his face on a cup), helping her earn an extra couple of bucks. It was also him who introduced Echo to her best friend (although she will always deny it), Ayli Vesper.
Herbert’s passing was a huge blow for Echo, but she remains being fervently loyal to the establishment. Aside from her role as resident cartoonist, she tries to help Ayli with as much as she can, mainly with anything related to electronic devices and social media. She’s there as soon as Kismet’s doors open and until they close, every day. It’s her safe heaven.
FAMILY INFORMATION
Echo severed all ties with her mother when she left Connecticut for college (it was a mutual cut off) and has no desire to talk to her again. Her father emails her every few months and has constantly bailed on any attempts made by Echo to reunite. Echo is an only child but she wouldn’t be surprised if her father has left a trail of impregnated women over the years on his exotic travels.
AESTHETIC
Echo keeps her hair long, a couple of inches above her elbows and she rarely wears it up. It’s usually pretty messy but she keeps it clean. Eyeliner always on fleek, she won’t let anyone see her without it. A fan of Doc Martens and graphic tees, she sticks to dark colors and comfortable clothes. A far cry from 9-5 Echo, who has to wear her company-issued blazer and perfectly ironed slacks or pencil skirt. As soon as she has clocked out she will change back into her normal self. Plaid shirts, denim, hoodies and anything she can shield herself behind while furiously typing away in her computer on a corner of the café.
