“Yeah, whatever you say.” Adam didn’t let Shade’s words insult him, taking another glance at the time. Hopefully the rescue workers would show up soon. This whole situation was stupid.

“Uh huh,” He hummed as he took a few notes. As a detective, he needed to remain unbiased and make a decision based on facts alone. She wasn’t making things easy for herself with all the ghost talk, but at least he couldn’t see a true motive for her to want to hurt anyone. “How did you get into the house? Did the person call you up and ask to have you over?”

Leaning forward, he slipped a notepad and pen from his back pocket. He took note of her title; paranormal investigator. He himself didn’t believe in the paranormal, but he wasn’t there to judge. Besides, it wasn’t the worst hobby out there. Adam was a little disappointed that she didn’t sit down. Didn’t matter too much, considering she was openly talking, but he didn’t feel like he was giving the dominant impression he wanted. He chose to stay seated for the time being. “I think we can start with you giving me your account of what happened.” He pushed for an explanation. “So far, I only have the victim’s account and that doesn’t look good for you.”

The detective entered the home as soon as she moved aside. He looked around at the mess of papers, his head stopping to study one of the drawings on the wall. Despite the clutter, it was one of the cleaner homes he’d been into. Being a cop had taken him to some nasty places, especially homes with bodies, where every step was met with the crunch of the many bugs that accumulate when death is around. The offer of a drink was met with uncertainty. He didn’t like to accept food or drink from people he didn’t know, especially when they’d been accused of attempted murder. You just never know what someone might add to a drink. These days, there are so many people who are anti-cop. “No thanks.” He declined, strategically taking a seat so that he would be between Ari and the door. If she ever sat down, that is. It was a method of adding stress to a subject, making them feel trapped. Though... that didn’t always work when the suspect owned the house. “I heard you had an altercation with somebody. I was hoping to get your side of the story.”

“Hello.” Adam shared a smile with Ari before subtly looking over her with his eyes. She was polite, which made a nice change. Hoped she’ll stay that way. He was used to dealing with assholes and people who didn’t want anything to do with the police. He gestured to the badge on his belt before offering his hand with a dominant step forward. He wanted to make a strong impression on her. “I’m detective Cadogan. I’m here to ask you some questions. Can I come in?” Adam’s eyes left Ari to take a glance at what he could see of the house.

Adam ignored the glare, seeing no use in getting upset about it. “I’m surprised you let him get hold of it. You seem awfully protective of it.”

“You didn’t have to kill him. You could have fled. None of this would have happened if you’d run away.”

Suspicious Sentence Starters
Send me one of the following sentences regarding suspicion, trust, and paranoia.
“I’m not sure you have the best intentions.” “When have I ever steered you wrong?” “What makes you think I can trust you?” “I don’t trust you. Not yet.” “It’s hard for me to believe anything you say.” “It hurts that you still can’t trust me after all this time.” “I made a mistake, okay? Are you going to distrust me forever?” “It takes me a long time to open up to people, I’m sorry.” “There’s someone outside watching the house.” “I have a weird feeling about him/her/them.” “Why do you always think people are up to something?” “I won’t give you my trust. You have to earn it.” “You can’t live your life being suspicious of everybody around you.” “I know we just met, but you have to trust me.” “What on earth are you up to?” “So, what were you whispering about?” “You’ve been keeping a secret from me.” “I’m not crazy, we’re being watched!” “Why do I get the feeling you’re not telling me the truth?” “I’d rather be safe than sorry when it comes to people I don’t know yet.” “I trusted you once and I’m never doing it again.” “You see that person? I think they’re following us.” “I just get this feeling that someone has been watching me.” “Who are you and why have you been following me?” “I used to be a very trusting person.” “Where were you?” “I’m sorry I didn’t trust you.” “You won’t call me ‘paranoid’ when you realize I’ve been right all along.” “You were right, okay? I’m sorry I didn’t listen to you.” “Give me one good reason to trust you.” “After last time, I’m not sure I should listen to you.” “Nope. Nuh-uh. I’m not trusting another one of your bad plans.” “How can we trust this person?” “How do I know you won’t just stab me in the back?” “I’m sorry, I just can’t bring myself to trust you again.” “You were right. I was a fool to trust them.” “I’m not suspicious. I’m just cautious.” “I told you that they were bad news.” “No, facebook stalking isn’t ‘creepy’, it’s called ‘being careful’.” “I get a bad feeling about them.”

Adam sighed, it was going to be a while before he was out of there.
“I’ll have a word with them. Like I said, I’m sure it can be organised. You’re in for murder this time.”

“If they really wanted to, they could organize a guard for you, I’m sure of it. With your history, they just might.” Adam checked the time on his phone, making a mental estimate of how long it had been since he made the call. Shade was starting to get on his nerves.
