She looked down at her hands, fingers playing with the strap on her bag. She took a breath, gathered her courage, and met Rose’s eyes with a smile. “I’m glad to hear you’re taking care of yourself. You always did overwork yourself. It’s good that you’re trying a little self care,” she said softly. “Time away did me good, but I missed this place. I missed my students,” her smile widened.
She nodded at Rose’s statement, it was something she understood very well. “Finland is beautiful. I knew you would do well. At least its good to know what doesn’t fit early - makes it a little easier to find what does. I . . . I’ve been spending time on self care too. On being okay. And I think I am. Okay that is,” she admitted. “I spent some time with my father, my brother. I was at my apartment in Barcelona the last few weeks. I think maybe I found a little more of myself too. I’m just hoping it’s not too late.” she said the last sentence quietly, almost as if she hadn’t realized she’d said it aloud.

A lot of thoughts ran through her head, most of them relief that she wasn’t going through what Genevieve was, which in turn made her feel guilty, because Miss Grace was going through that. She nodded, “I’m glad you’re back.” She said softly, the truth was she had missed the cups of tea and long conversations about books and other things. She nodded, “That and finishing up a few assignment, I’ve been studying less, uh - just trying to put a little less pressure on myself.” She found herself saying with a light shrug, knowing that she was really just filling the silence to avoid having to answer the other question. But she did need to answer it and she wasn’t sure of the answer.
“I’ve been… working on being okay.” Rose said hesitantly. “I - uh - had my internship over the summer and it was okay, Finland was great, the work… wasn’t what I expected but I still grew a lot, as a person, I think I might have… found a part of myself I lost a while ago.” She said, biting her lip as silence fell again, “How about you?”

Genevieve laughed in response. “You chose a good plac e for that, its the reason I’m up here. You’re welcome to join me, its what I’m doing anyways.” She transfigured a quill on the table into another glass, poured from the wine bottle and offered it to him. “The view is close enough to enjoy the light of the fire and stars on the lake, but far enough away you can pretend you don’t know what the students are doing down there.” She took a sip of her own wine and smiled. “So why are you up here with me, avoiding students? No special lady - or man, I suppose?”

I’m Not Creative // John Burton and Genevieve Grace
Genevieve stood in the window of the library, smiling out at the view over the grounds and a glass of wine in hand. She could see the chaos of the bonfire and the stumbling of drunk students - fortunately stumbling not too close to the fire itself. She could remember being one of those students herself, not too long ago, She heard the door of the library open and she turned, ready to tell whatever drunk and meandering student it was that the library was closed. Instead, she saw John standing in the doorway. She smiled at him. “What has you up here, joining me?”

“Then you must come by sometime and see me. I’ll make tea and we can discuss books,” she smiled.
“That sounds great! And I practically live in the library. So of course you will see me there”

Genevieve hardly knew what to feel. It would have been easier had the first person she bumped into been just another student, but she supposed it was better than had she bumped into someone like Scorpius. She scolded herself, Rose was one of her favorite students - you know, if she had favorites of course. But she rather acutely felt the awkwardness of the situation. She and Rose hadn’t spoken after the incident in Cecil’s classroom. In Scorpius’ answer to her letter of forgiveness, he had explained that she wasn’t pregnant. A congrats didn’t really feel very appropriate, especially considering the obvious 5 month baby bump she was sporting.
“Yes, I . . .” her words died in her throat. “I wasn’t due for another months, back I mean,” she blushed. “But I realized it was time . . .and here I am . . . I only just got back,” she explained. “Of course! You’re starting NEWT preparations, correct?” Her words fell short again. “How have you been?” She asked in a softer tone.

Rose woke early, to the farmiliar sound of her alarm, she got up instantly, moving quickly to the bathroom and showering, she got into her robes. She pondered which assignment to work on, she had a Potions essay that needed some work which was why she had gotten up early but she’d need a textbook from the library for that, she wasn’t sure what Mister Kingston’s policy on lates nights and early mornings was, as she’d cut back on her library time significantly since last year, she was working hard to be more easygoing and stress less about everything, especially school and grades. The fact that she was only a week ahead in assignments was an achievement in itself considering most other years she’d been at least three weeks ahead.
She opened the door quietly, slipping down the somewhat dimly lit corridor, and out through the common room. She headed quickly to the library, smiling a victorious smile, when she saw the lights on from under the door and walked in quietly. She froze completely when she saw who it was. “Miss Grace… You’re back.” She said in astonishment, She’d almost forgotten that the librarian would be coming back. “I - uh - a book. I’m looking for a…” She trailed off, frowning at the awkward feeling in one of her safe havens. The library had always been one of her favourite places and Genevieve had always been one of her favourite people.

She leaned over to give him a welcoming hug. “We’ll simply have to have a wonderful time, gossip about him, get horribly drunk, and prank him. There is simply no other option to be had.” She agreed in a serious tone, biting back a smile. “You can make him wildly jealous next time you see him, and then he’ll have to hang out with us more! Anyways, what have you been up to since the students left for the holidays?”
Taking a sip of her firewhiskey, she waved at Hannah with a smile so she could come get Carter’s drink order. “I keep hearing mention of you two and a ghost council. Are they that difficult to get into?” She smiled at his keeping his scarf on but said nothing.

Genevieve was finishing organizing the shelves when she heard someone behind her. She turned and smiled when she saw Carter. “Come to see me?” She smiled before realizing she couldn’t step away. She glanced upwards at the enchanted mistletoe with a laugh. “What do you think? Bryn wants to get even for the mistletoe I left all over his rooms?” Standing on her toes, she placed a feather light kiss on his lips.

“I’ve been wonderful. My time away did me good, though I am happy to be back at the library. I hope to see you around there more?”
Smiling as he felt her lips on his cheek he looked at her. “I’ve been great and you?” he asked softly.

Drunk Gossiping Aunts of Hogwarts // Genevieve Grace and Carter Wesson
The semester had finally come to a close, and they were now waffling between Christmas and New Years. Most of the students had returned home and Genevieve had followed their example, spending time with her father and brother. when she had been invited to meet Bryn and Carter at Three Broomsticks. Of course one particular ghoul nerd had backed out at last minute, but she was looking forward to seeing Carter at least even if she didn’t know him too well outside of Bryn yet.
She smiled when she saw him enter the Three Broomsticks. She waved him over to the booth she had grabbed them while she accepted her drink from the waitress with a thank you. “Carter!” She greeted cheerfully, taking a sip of her firewhiskey. “Did you hear the news that Bryn won’t be making it? I’m afraid the resolute drinking and bad choices will have to be on us alone.”

AU: A Conversation // Genevieve Grace and Rose Weasley
(Otherwise, the conversation they would have had when Gen returned had the Greengrace baby plot not been dropped)
Genevieve’s hands did not tremble when she set her bag down on her desk in the library. All was quiet and the early morning light was glowing blue through the windows onto the dust that had gathered where she had always sat. At 5 months pregnant, she could no longer really hide the fact from the common passerby, but the idea no longer frightened her. Her mind was calm for the first time in a long while, though her nerves were bundled in the pit of her stomach at the thought of when she would see Cecil. She wasn’t sure whether he would really want her home anymore, her letter - note really - having gone unanswered. The nerves bundled tighter when she thought of the other people she would need to see - Scorpius, Bryn, Felicity, Charlie . . .
She took a deep breath and gently set those thoughts aside. She would deal with them when she had too. For now, she only needed to focus on unpacking. She could get breakfast down in the kitchens if she was unready to face the masses. She heard the library doors creak open, and light footsteps take a tentative step inside. For half a second, her heart leaped into her throat before she realized the steps were too light to be Cecil. She felt a mixture of relief and disappointment when she turned until she saw who it was. “Rose,” she said in surprise.

Genevieve laughed and returned his hug. “I’m glad I wasn’t forgotten about in my absence. I pined every day! How was it in my absence? I see the school hasn’t fallen entirely apart without me?”
“Sorry Gen, I didn’t realize it was you considering someone disappeared on me for a few months. “ Bryn grinned, pulling her into a hug. “Of course I missed you, did you miss me?”
