This whole situation has reminded me of this nagging fear I've had over the last couple years about Taylor.
She was unjustifiably "cancelled" on a massive scale (pre-reputation) and I'm worried about the impact that may have had on her in various negative ways. I think it could cause a few unfavorable outcomes for her, her fandom, and the general public:
Taylor doesn't really read up on current events or celebrity news anymore to "protect her peace" and therefore, she sometimes makes uneducated decisions to spend time with, work with, or date and hook up with problematic people.
Taylor survived her "cancellation" and now feels invincible with the public and truly doesn't give a shit.
Taylor may become resistant to any feedback or criticism, no matter how valid, because of the unwarranted backlash for things she didn't do.
Taylor has reached a level of fame and success and is so out of touch with reality that she has lost empathy for marginalized people.

Short version: I’m moving to a new blog @poisoninthecups and taking a hiatus from this blog <3
Long version under the cut!
So yeah, I’ve made a new blog and will be taking a hiatus from this one/swiftie tumblr for a while.
I’m struggling to deal with both Taylor’s choices this past month and the way certain parts of the fandom have treated those of us affected by Matty Healy’s words and actions.
I feel deeply confused and frustrated by her choice to not only continue to be with this man and the use of her money and resources to avoid and distract from criticism of her. To be clear I don’t care about her dating life - I care that she’s associating with someone who holds racist/sexist/antisemetic/fatphobic/god knows what else views and uses his fame to spread hate speech. I have empathy for why she may have made these choices, but that doesn’t excuse protecting and choosing to be with a bigot.
It’s also been deeply troubling to me to see the way certain people (not people I follow!!) have treated the fans that are upset or angry. There is so much pressure to just move on from this and not be upset anymore, it feels like the imagined happiness of Taylor has been put above the real hurt of real people in the fandom.
I am also deeply concerned for Taylor and still care about her and her music deeply. I share worries that she’s not doing good, even if that can’t excuse her actions. She’s been a part of my life for over 15 years, the love I have for her can’t just be switched off. But I think I need to take some space from actively engaging in her music/content for my own mental health.
I’m sending so much love to everyone else struggling with all of this right now. My messages are open to anyone who is still angry and hurting. I still have hope things could improve, but for now I just need a break
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

That Rolling Stones article is not it.
I don’t think it’s fair for women to be blamed for the actions of men. And idk how he’s made it this far without being called out more. But people aren’t blaming Taylor for her bf’s actions. We are critical of her choice to publicly associate with Someone like this, and for giving him a larger platform by letting him get on her stage. Those are choices she’s made.
Idgaf if we don’t hold men accountable for their chosen company in the same way (we should), it’s not a reason to make excuses here.

Like as an alcoholic I HATE the fatphobia related to any form of treatment. The idea that I should stop drinking cause it'll make me lose weight, the way doctors will point out my "beer belly" before they talk about my liver or my kidneys or the social aspect of my drinking problem, the way people only care about my drinking problem cause it makes me fat. You don't care about me as someone who's struggling with addiction.

nobody talks about the fact that you can have all this crazy shit in your head, and want to open up and talk about your feelings but no matter what, you just can't make out the right words and properly put your thoughts and emotions into words

🏳️🌈 Ruth Ellis (1899 - 2000) was the daughter of former slaves. She came out as a lesbian when she was 16-years-old to the complete acceptance of her family. In 1937, Ruth and her longtime partner moved to Detroit from their hometown of Springfield, Illinois for the promise of higher wages. There, she became the first woman in Michigan to run her own printing business. She printed fliers, posters, and stationary in the front room of her home, which also quickly became a hotspot for Black LGBTQ social life. Before long, Ruth was helping those who came around in any way she could, including by paying for college tuitions. After the Stonewall uprising, 70-year-old Ruth began giving speeches in support of gay and lesbian rights all across the country. She remained an activist for the rest of her long life and even spent her 100th birthday leading the San Francisco Dyke March. At the time of her death at 101, she was recognized as the oldest out lesbian in the US. She is the subject of the documentary "Living With Pride: Ruth C. Ellis @ 100" and is the namesake of the Ruth Ellis Center, a shelter for homeless and at-risk LGBTQ youth in Detroit.
Celebrate Ruth Ellis.
