It not that deep to be frenk, where i live the term is not considered offensive, and in the states it not either. Seems to me people are trying to make a big deal out of smth small.

I know it’s been a while, but I wanted to bring up a Hozier-related issue that some people might see floating around the internet and might be confused about.

I never listened to the Van Morrison cover that Hozier performed, but apparently he sang a racial slur. (g*psy) (apparently this was a slur that assumed Romani people were “Egyptians” — this might not be true but is just something I heard!!)

I’m kind of confused on the issue because that word is used and has been evolved in so many ways. To Roma people, it’s offensive. In the states, it’s a fashion style associated with “hippie”. In Great Britain and Ireland, it’s used as a [offensive?] synonymous term for Travellers.

I’m just wondering where other people stand on this to help me formulate my own opinion. Do you think Hozier should be held accountable and publicly apologize for singing someone else’s lyrics?

I don’t think it would hurt to apologize but it is a little strange that the context of words and their uses/meanings feel like they’re changing or becoming more extreme nowadays. I don’t want to ever offend people, but I also want to allow words to be able to flourish and evolve their meanings into something positive. (Like how “Yankee” used to be offensive for New Englanders/New Yorkers and now there’s literally a baseball team called the Yankees!)

I’m not trying to offend anyone, just wanted to thought dump here and open up a discussion about words and holding people accountable! Feel free to comment on this or reblog with a response, but please be nice to each other! :•)

1. Tangled (This is my comfort movie. I've probably, no joke, seen this over 50 times. I can quote the whole thing from memory)

2. Atlantis: The Lost Empire (I aspire to look like a lesbian Milo at all times)

3. Emperor's New Groove (This was a staple in my childhood, and it is easily one of the best underrated Disney movies)

4. Mulan (Mulan was definitely part of my lesbian awakening ngl)

5. The Hunchback of Notre Dame (God the music and art in this movie is incredible. And I get chills whenever Hellfire comes on)

1. The Boiling Rock (parts 1&2. Because I'm a sokka and zuko stan. Also we get some bad ass suki moments and I would die for her)

2. Sokka's Master (once again, sokka stan. Also, his whole story about not feeling talented and worthless hit close to home for me)

3. Zuko Alone (not only is it just an incredible episode, but we get baby zuko and turtleducks! What more could you want?)

4. The Cave of Two Lovers (SECRET TUNNEL SECRET TUNNEL)

5. The Library (the owl dude is sick as fuck, and we also get some genius sokka moments)

1. John Mulaney (You got me there. I put on his specials whenever I feel bad. I can quote them from memory)

2. Bo Burnham (I cant listen to any of his songs without bursting out laughing. Some personal favorites: Pandering, From God's Perspective, and Straight White Man)

3. Robin Williams (His stand up was always on when I was growing up, my dad loved him. And he was just super funny and his movies are incredible)

4. Hannah Gadsby (I've only watched Nanette but I loved her. She reminds me of my freshman English teacher)

5. Middleditch and Schwartz (I don't know if this counts? You know what, it's my list. They have three shows on Netflix, INCREDIBLE. The third one is my favorite.)
