It’s easy to forget JRR Tolkien was a fairly prolific academic translator with an interest in early medieval literature and philology. It’s so inspiring that he found time to write The Hobbit while fighting for his life over Beowulf.

more on bread and circuses?
This one is gonna be smut of the Bread and Circuses Spones prison cell scene! Here's a little bit from the beginning:
“You wouldn’t know what to do with a genuine, warm, decent feeling.” McCoy is correct. Everything he’s said has been correct. Genuine Spock feels the anguish roll over him like a wave– a feeling he’s intimately familiar with. Warm The feelings he pushes down the most are the positive ones. They’re easier to control. Easier to repress. They’re a sign of weakness. A sign of his humanity. Decent For a split second, Spock can feel the pain sinking in. The worry about Jim, the insecurity he has in himself– they both swirl together in his veins. Emotions tear through his mind and his heart. For a split second, it’s unbearable. And then Spock does what he always does– he shoves down his emotions and walls them up. He can still feel them like a pressure in the back of his psyche. He ignores it– pushes it down even deeper than before. His face falls back to neutrality. He turns to face McCoy with an eyebrow raised. “Really, Doctor?”
