Ignoring how deeply unsubtle this whole scene is (oh man i wonder if hawkfrost is gonna be the bad guy), this line becomes waaaay more interesting when you learn in Starlight that a lot of the trouble that Hawkfrost and Mothwing face does not come from them being Tigerkin, but that they're rogueborn instead:

“Do you have the same problem in RiverClan?” he whispered. Hawkfrost shook his head. “No. Tigerstar was never such an enemy to RiverClan. Any trouble I have comes from not being Clanborn. It used to bother me, but now I just look at Firestar. If a kittypet can become Clan leader, so can I.”
