Haven’t posted on this in quite some time. Have been reflecting lately and think I’ll start dropping random bits back on here.

Ketosis
I've been on the slow carb diet as per Tim Ferriss' book. Just got ahold of some ketosis strips to see if I'm actually in ketosis or not. Friday the strip (which you pee on) showed moderate levels of ketones present, meaning my body was in ketosis and generally burning fat stores for energy verses carbs. Saturday was my cheat day / carb loading. I blew it out with plenty of sugars (donuts, skittles) as well as regular carbs (Big Mac, vanilla shakes, etc). Using the strips at the end of the day showed that I no longer had ketones present in my urine. Sunday was back to slow carb. My first strip test was at lunch and already it said "trace" amounts of ketones, the lowest color before the negative patch. So less than a full day and body has started to work its way back to ketosis. I'll test at least once a day to see how far along the strip I get before I hit Saturday again. And the purpose of all this? Not really sure. I think overall it seems a healthier diet as I'm not consuming tons of sugar. At a minimum I've notice my acid reflux (which I get if I eat too much sugar) is now non-existent. Lots of arguable literature about how grains (and excess carbs) are chronically bad for us and has contributed to the obesity trends around the world. My weight has slowly dropped from 205 lbs (mid February) to 198 lbs (weight on Friday). Losing weight isn't even desired for me as I want to stay above 200 lbs (Benny Deuces!) but I want the weight to be more lean body mass (muscle) verses fat. If I can get down to 10-12% BF I would be ecstatic. I'm trying to keep consistent on the weight workouts as well as add a run or two per week in there. The intent isn't performance but longevity (and aesthetic!). As I creep closer to 50 I feel the weight of Father Time on my shoulders. Need to keep him at bay. Not to mention Sam Fisher kicks it hard well into his 50's! I may not run and gun anymore but it doesn't mean that I shouldn't be able to if I want. #slowcarb #ketosis #longevity #SamFisher #BennyDeuces #ThorneHollow
