Steven Universe Widdershins AU
Because this is what happens when I watch SU with @malform-removal
This is what we’ve got so far, I’ve split into characters and put a cut because it’s quite long. Feel free to add on suggestions ^_^
Harry and Sid
• The anchor is a gem ruin just outside Widdershins
• Hunters’ jobs are much the same as canon, but the magic items they retrieve are mostly gem tech
• The Barbers are humans with a family history of getting caught up in gem stuff
• Sid is a Pyrite - aka Fool’s Gold! - with his gem on his wrist
• His job was to do with organising resources (he doesn’t have his accidental pickpocketing thing, but he does often accidentally walk off with other people’s stuff)
• He can sense the make up of the surrounding earth without instruments
• At some point he gets poofed. Before he can regenerate, his gem is found by a human and inlaid into the mark of thieves bracelet (which is a map to a gem temple)

so, hi. i wrote a book. and it's up on kickstarter on monday. aaaaaaaaa
Launching on September 9th, Hit The Ground Running is the first novel in an intended series of near-future crime capers!
Built on the bones of a former northern England shipbuilding town, Unity City is an extraterritorial city-state fully owned and operated by worldwide megacorp Imperium International LLC. Renji Starkweather has everything he needs to succeed within Unity: confidence, a fast mouth, and most importantly, a famous aunt. But despite his coveted position within the city’s enforcers, restless Renji has never quite fit in with the company values, and when an impulsive stunt involving an airship and far too many bladed weapons sends him plummeting into Unity's buried depths, he begins to see the real human cost of those record profits.
Thrown into the path of a notorious gang of criminals named The Loose Ends, Renji is keen to help them even the score; and once an unfair gas bill threatens to leave the city's poorest freezing in their own homes, he finds himself with a chance to do just that. Teaming up with a gruff single dad on a mission, a laid-back hacker DJ, and her furious bruiser of a sister, Renji has a plan involving an audacious heist of tonight’s company Christmas fundraiser– but in order to pull it off, he’ll have to dodge his vicious former boss and avoid his terrifying aunt, all while gaining the trust of his new allies.
What could possibly go wrong…?
More info soon, but for now, here's the first two chapters as a sample, and you can get notified when the project is live here!
(awesome cover by @bfleuter!)

A Smouldering Smoke
Chapter 1: The Ministry of Emotion
Following on from my drabble, here’s the first chapter of a TL;DR story, the sequel to The Treasure of Silbury Hill, starring everyone’s favourite wizards.
When some fool stumbles across a terrible relic from the nightmarish distant past, who but Blake and Bryony Thackerey, the Joint Directors of the Department of Magical Containment and the best wizards in the Ministry of Emotion, can possibly be entrusted to make it secure and safe?

Buggeruptober day 7: Spark
Ben had never really understood what people meant when they talked about feeling a “spark” with someone.
At university he often found himself unwillingly overhearing conversations where his classmates gushed to their friends about the stunning boy they had met at the pub or the gorgeous girl who sat next to them in class, usually involving some variant of “–and our eyes met and I just knew!” To begin with Ben had suspected them of exaggerating for effect – surely people didn’t really feel attraction the moment they set eyes on someone? – but after hearing similar expressions again and again, he began to wonder if he was the strange one for not feeling that way.
It wasn’t a topic one could look up in the library, and he didn’t have anyone to ask about it; the twins were far too wrapped up in themselves to listen, and fond as he was of Vee, this simply wasn’t the sort of thing they talked about. The idea of bringing it up to his parents or grandparents was too embarrassing to even be considered.
Later on he found some comfort in O’Malley’s total lack of interest in anything related to romantic or sexual contact, although Wolfe’s occasional rhapsodizing about a pretty face he had encountered stirred up his doubts again. Was it something to do with his own social awkwardness? If he was better with people, would he react more normally to meeting someone attractive?
And then came the long, odd day of impersonating Harry Barber and being threatened by Americans, alongside a maddening apothecary-turned-detective who was obsessed with ridiculous theories… who gleefully pushed back when he snapped at her the way O’Malley did, but unlike O’Malley knew how to construct an intelligent argument… who understood the importance of a detailed filing system… who was willing to go to any lengths to answer a question… who was quick-witted and confident and brave… who, by the end of that long day, made something unfamiliar happen in Ben’s stomach when he looked at her.
By the time they had been on several dates together, he was sure of it: while he still didn’t fully understand the hows and whys of the phenomenon, Eliza Swift struck that mysterious spark in him in a way that no one else ever had.

Buggeruptober day 9: Arrival
Will stepped down onto the bustling platform of the Widdershins train station, lugging his heavy suitcase. The weight on his mood felt even heavier.
He was glad to have been able to see his Great-Aunt Mildred once more before she died – when he was growing up, she was just about the only one who treated him like a person instead of like a clay figure to be molded into the perfect shape – but visiting her bedside meant dealing with the rest of his relatives as well. Half of them had taken every opportunity to remind him that he deserved to be cut off from the family for dragging the Sharpe name into a criminal trial, and the other half didn’t speak to him at all.
After almost a week of that treatment, Will was at the end of his ability to brush it off with a cocky grin and a smooth remark. Worse, he was beginning to feel, deep in the back of his mind where the old hurts still lurked, that they might be right.
“Will! Will!”
Will’s head snapped up, the dark thoughts scattering. Vincent was running along the platform toward him, waving vigorously, his face alight.
Will dropped his suitcase and caught Vincent up in his arms, spinning him around and around. People were staring, but he didn’t care.
Vincent clearly didn’t either; as soon as his feet were on solid ground again he wrapped his arms around Will’s neck and kissed him soundly, and Will forgot about everything else.
It wasn’t until they separated, both a little breathless, that Will realized Eliza was there too. She stood a few paces behind Vincent with her arms folded, looking amused. “We missed you, in case you hadn’t figured that out,” she informed him. “Welcome home.”
Will stood still for a moment, feeling that word sink into him. Home. Why hadn’t he seen it before? Home wasn’t the place and the people he had been born to, not anymore. Home was the pungent mixture of scents that filled the apothecary shop; it was the thrill of successfully charming a customer into a sale; it was Eliza’s eyes blazing with enthusiasm as she held forth about something; it was Vincent’s hand slipping softly into his.
Will hugged Vincent closer to his side, smiling at Eliza over his head. “Thanks,” he said. “It’s really good to be home.”

I’ve been having a lot of fun with this Picrew that lets you do two characters kissing. Naturally I made some of our favorite Widdershins couples. 😚
