Winston - Stage 3
CAS: Creative Activity: Winston Number of Sessions: 3 Length per Session: 1 Hour Date: 5/9/2018
Introduction During this period, I directed, filmed, and edited a video for our school’s promotional department for the benefits of service learning activities and our school’s IB residential. I also managed the audio by providing my own mic and professionally recording their voices.
Learning Objectives Met
Learning Objective 1 - Identify your own strengths and develop areas for personal growth. I already had experience in audio recorders, filming and video editing, which I pitched to one of my friends for the video. As the video was supposed to be professional as it is meant to be shown for parents, I had to develop and hone skills I haven’t learned yet. Learning Objective 4 - Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences Commitment to Winston and as an editor to the school Learning Objective 5 - Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively. There was a student body responsible for this and they made the script and chose who they wanted to interview. After choosing me as an editor, I had plenty of things to account for such as the microphone and my film equipment. I had asked several of my friends to help me, thus responsibility was distributed.

Makabata - Stage 3
CAS: Service Activity: Makabata Number of Sessions: 3 Length per Session: 1 Hour
Introduction Due to a lack of time as a result of revision and deadlines, I have not been attending much sessions of Makabata in Stage 3, especially in Year 2.
However, the sessions I did attend were one of my most important ones; I had the responsibility of leading the entire ASA. In one session, the ASA supervisour had a meeting, thus I was called to lead the ASA for the time being. From my point of view, everything went perfect; the kids learned a lot and we had fun.
I also want to point out that I was mentoring a group of Y11 amidst the session, talking about the importance of CAS (not taking it for granted), finishing deadlines early, and also the importance of a good balance of study, sleep, and social life.
Learning Objectives Met:
Learning Objective 3 - Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience. As an impromptu leader, I improvised and still planned (to some extent) the Makabata sessions under my helm.
Learning Objective 4 - Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences. Despite revision and deadlines eating up my schedule, I made time to lead and commit as a leader in Makabata.
Learning Objective 6 - Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance. I think it is very important that we recognise the importance of access to education, especially with Makabata and it’s intended impact. I want to make a lasting influence on the kids I have mentored, taught and bonded with, so that they can remember what I taught to them and providing them with a “kuya”, or a buddy.

Winston - Stage 2
CAS: Creative Activity: Winston Number of Sessions: 15 Meetings, 2 Video edits Length per Session: Meetings - 1 Hour, Video Edits - min. 3 Hours Dates: 24/1/2018 - 23/5/2018
Introduction At this stage, I am now the Video Head (alongside a friend) for 2018-2019. We have worked on several projects (attached here) and had several meetings. All videos attached were edited by me. My co-head and I planned and directed it as a group.
Learning Objectives Met
Learning Objective 1 - Identify your own strengths and develop areas for personal growth. Strengths as a video editor; gained invaluable experience as a leader
Learning Objective 2 - Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process. Some videos were very challenging to edit and film, but I managed and finished it.
Learning Objective 4 - Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences Continued on Winston from Stage 1. Learning Objective 5 - Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively. As an ASA video leader, I delegated people into roles that I believe will work for them. Unfortunately, our video department had low manpower, but working collaboratively solved that issue. For example, filming events was not something I am comfortable in, however, was forced to undertake as a result of low manpower. Pushing myself out of this comfort zone made me realise the importance of collaboration; making things more efficient and faster.

NSINK Takes Prom Practices
CAS: Creativity, Action Activity: NSINK Number of Sessions: 8 Length per Session: 1 Hour - 3 Hours Dates: 12/5/2018 - 4/6/2018
Introduction We decided to continue on our boyband performances in our school prom. This time, I choreographed a portion of the dance and also edited the music as it is a mashup of various songs.
Learning Objectives Met
Learning Objective 1 - Identify your own strengths and develop areas for personal growth. Again, I’m often a little shy when it comes to public performances. The dance and its practice significantly helped me to combat my shyness.
Learning Objective 2 - Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process. Some of the dances were difficult as they were choreographed by our school’s dance coach. They were challenging but nonetheless I was able to finish it and further hone my dancing skills.
Learning Objective 4 - Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences
Commitment as a boyband group, moving from our original performance back in December and then another one for prom.

Makabata - Stage 2
CAS: Service Activity: Makabata Number of Sessions: 19 Length per Session: 1 Hour Dates: 22/1/2018 - 21/5/2018
Introduction I continued doing Makabata as I found it interesting and playful. I have taught and learned so much from my experiences with my peers and from the children. I would describe it as a mutualistic relationship, where we and the kids from Makabata get to benefit. For example, I get to learn traditional Filipino stories, games and culture and the children get to learn basic maths, English comprehension and more.
I have also started taking a leadership role within this ASA, which is unusual as it is a teacher-led ASA. However, the connections and network of friends I made in the ASA have motivated them to join and bring friends with them, which would greatly enhance our manpower and quality of teaching to the kids.
Learning Objectives Met
Learning Objective 3 - Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience. As a student, I would prepare beforehand activities for the children. Once I took a leadership role, I helped and directed the ASA and its activities.
Learning Objective 4 - Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences. At this time, I have been doing Makabata for 9 months.
Learning Objective 6 - Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance. Makabata is a foundation wherein we help them learn more through better access to technology, wifi, and worksheets. Access to education is a significant global problem and is a local problem too. Our aid helps provide these kids with better education, molding them into better citizens and upfront changers.

Tennis - Stage 2
CAS: Action Activity: Tennis Number of Sessions: 18 Length per Session: 1.5 Hours Dates: 23/1/2018 - 22/5/2018
Introduction Following on from Stage 1, I decided to continue playing tennis, further honing my skills and interests. For this stage, I managed to convince my friend to join me, starting both as beginners although I have a slight advantage due to my previous experience earlier. My friend and I found it more enjoyable playing against and together, and we sometimes compete against each other to get the better score or play which greatly improved our individual skill as tennis players.
Learning Objectives Met
Learning Objective 1 - Identify your own strengths and develop areas for personal growth. I reflected on previous skill and identified what I’m good at (e.g. serving, hit accuracy). I then developed areas where I’m bad at (positioning) and further improve on them, receiving critical feedback from my coaches and peers.
Learning Objective 2 - Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process. Although I’m an experienced beginner, tennis and it’s intricacies still challenge me. Thus, not only have I shown that I have undertaken these processes, but I have learned to love tennis, thereby contributing to developing new skills.
Learning Objective 4 - Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences I followed on from stage 1 and committed to playing tennis.

Habitat for Humanity Build 01, 2/12/17
CAS: Action, Service Activity: Habitat for Humanity Volunteer Build Session: 1 Length: 3 Hours Date: Saturday, 2 December, 2017
Introduction
This activity involved volunteer work to help construction workers build a housing project for informal settlers. The work was early and the sun was brutal, nonetheless, I persevered. My friends and I worked collaboratively, bringing and pouring buckets of cement into moulds for the walls, foundation and bricks.
This is one of my most memorable CAS activity. I bonded with the construction workers, speaking in street Tagalog which I found funny and humourous. I hoped they reciprocated the same feelings and experience I had with them. There was good banter and I felt like I was the only one in the group (mostly because I know how to speak “street/informal” Tagalog) that actually bonded with them. I was wearing gloves (which were for paintball) as protection and I gave one away to Abel; one of the construction workers I bonded with.
Learning Objectives Met
Learning Objective 5 - Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively.
Learning Objective 7 - Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions.
