I haven’t been all too into bsd as of late, but now that the rewatch is over I’m gonna miss it! It was a joy watching and reacting to the series like it’s the first time I’m seeing it again!!

Thank you for your support!!!! People having fun together was our prime goal, So we are glad this little fandom event could sparkle some joy for you (ㅅ´ ˘ )♡

As per previous survey, people replied positively to doing a Wan! anime rewatch too, so please look forward to it starting on February 4th!

When this project was starting out, we were also considering doing a parallel manga reread; some people voiced their interest in it, but due to the technical difficulties to organize multiple events at the same time, in order not to make too many appointments overlap, it eventually got put to the side for the time being. It would be nice to see whether, after the rewatch has definitely ended, and now that the bsd manga main arc is close to an end too, people would still be interested in something of the kind!

We will not count shots where only the background was distorted, nor shots of rooms, objects, animals, or simply mid-action weirdness. Season 1 and season 3 carry the most (14), while season 5 is the weakest (6).

Fun BSD French translation details and choices - Episode 61 (by someone who does not understand Japanese but thinks the differences with the English translation/subtitles are fun)

General notes:

Chuuya's tone when going "who's the idiot?!" at Dazai complaining that Chuuya was supposed to go easier on him sounded less angry and more surprised and offended (really bro?? you're gonna complain?????)

meanwhile Fyodor's tone when Chuuya revealed himself was so genuine and long-suffering. Of course it was this guy, why wouldn't it have been this guy!

Fyodor recites his last words in French (Mon Dieu, mon Dieu, pourquoi m'as-tu abandonné?)

Thank you to my 5-20 readers for (checks notes) one year and two months (to the day!!) of listening to me ramble about the French dub, it's been fun!!!

Hey can we like talk about how the anime (understandably) finished on this tragic high note of Fukuchi dying in Fukuzawa's arms, Fukuzawa grieving while Ranpo looks over him and speaks of curses left by those who leave us, with Atsushi and Teruko leaving Fukuzawa and Fukuchi space to themselves, aka "the good guys winning but at what cost" moment...

... but in the manga, Fukuchi slowly dies on the floor in front of a frozen-in-shock Fukuzawa to the victorious screams of Aya while we go back and forth between Dazai and Chuuya acting silly and Sigma seeing Fyodor's memories with a creeping sense of unease?

The anime tied it all neatly for a tragic end-of-season victory and we all grieved with them and then the manga loomed over us like :) you would like that wouldn't you :) and feeding us a sense of dread until we had a tripolar singularity rewriting reality to kill off everyone

okay, finished watching twlight goodybe and here's what i think: both fyodor and dazai lost at mersault (MANGA SPOILERS AHEAD)

dazai emphasizes the fact that the vampire taking over was not his doing, he didn't have a hand in that, he just trusted that that is what ranpo would do. so i'm thinking, that could've very well went on even if dazai actually died. and here's the thing: now that we know fyodor's ability, it's only logical that fyodor would take this opportunity to get rid of dazai, right? as he is the only one who can kill fyodor, like, properly.

we know how dazai lost, he didn't realize that dying was fyodor's plan but i'm also leaving the opportunity open that fyodor didn't necessarily want to become bram, like it was problably an option is his mind, but like

he soooooo wanted to become nikolai. i stand by that

like i'm not saying it wasn't calculated in his plan that dazai could survive, it's still a pretty good deal, he's currently in france while fyodor is in japan, like good luck getting there in time, right? and also, maybe mayyybe fyodor kind of liked having a rival in dazai, for one and like. yk. a chance to not have to live forever and stop being an immortal is not necessarily a bad thing. it's just that now that dazai knows his ability, he kind of will try to kill fyodor as quickly as possible and that could put an end to his plans, so that's why i do think that he wanted to get dazai out of the picture.

also like. his inner monologue. which is just for him to hear. was kinda pointing towards to believing that dazai actually died

who is lying here for. unless he's not lying, yk

that's all i have, i believe. how dazai lost is pretty obvious from the manga, i think. like. it's textual, he textually lost. kinda. maybe. like, if fyodor's plan was to become bram or like end up at the airport in another way and cause ame-no-gozen to happen, then dazai sure as hell didn't figure that one out. so, he lost. right? even if his plan was to kill fyodor, which he did do.

well, anyway. i think they both lost, i think fyodor didn't mean to leave dazai alive. the fact that he wanted to become nikolai first/instead is more of a headcanon but i do think that the mersault incident didn't go exactly as fyodor (or dazai) planned.
