Me asf when I read some Valgrace analysis when they make Leo some little twink with small waist who needs protection from Jason his alpha bad boy wolf
Analysis so bad you don't even know what it's talking about anymore.
#like why would you do that#this emotion resonates so deeply#valgrace#i think??#i hate these kinds of analysis#peeling my skin off as we speak

i dont really understand riordans decision to write these fanfic-esque books of cute little adventures, and refuse to let percy grow up. he's created a world where nearly every character could not imagine surviving a few days down the line. there's an incredibly rich potential to develop camp jupiter/new rome, thru the eyes of a new college kid or even short stories. I get percy + annabeth are popular, but the current versions have nothing on the orig series. but there is so much room for development that ISN'T percy. hunters book, roman prequels, chb / new rome short stories, party ponies guide, olympian povs, underworld etc etc. there's so many stories that can be told (thalia, calypso, jason, reyna, octavian, hazel, piper, nico... To name a few) but theyre stuck in stasis. and i am not someone who would jump to new gen, but holy shit would a new gen do wonders for the series, seeing the effects and details of being an adult demigod, diving into legacies, updating the camps (and having appropriate pop cultural references), seeing their combination efforts.... idgaf about silena luke charlie sally jackson-chase ii, BUT i cant act like it wouldn't add texture to the world either. man hes so wack fr

Why does everybody ship Valdangelo anyway? I don't even recall them being close or anything.
I think people just like to think about their potential interactions because both of them experience a sort of similar kind of loneliness and react to it in vastly different ways? Sort of an opposites attract thing with a common core. They kind of complement each other in terms of powers and personality - Nico’s sphere of influence is death and Leo’s is fire (and fire really is sort of symbolic of life and creation and civilization, because where would humans be without fire?) so there’s that elemental synchronization. The way they deal with their problems is totally opposite - Nico runs away from emotional confrontation and withdraws into himself, but the thing he seems to want most is actually acceptance from other people, whereas Leo IS accepted and even invaluable to other people, but he finds it more comfortable to deal with machines than people and is also dealing with an inferiority complex to boot (which causes him to overcompensate by goofing off and praising himself and just being a hyperactive baby in general). If I had to sum it up, I’d say that Nico has an inward expression of loneliness, while Leo has an outward one. Leo never stops moving forward because moving is easier than confronting his demons, while Nico can’t seem to stop feeling trapped by his past, and I guess people feel like together they can mutually help each other get to the place they need to be. But in canon, Leo’s probably the one Nico is LEAST close to (aside from maybe Piper), so ia the ship doesn’t have much textual support to go off of (which is why I personally can’t ship it yet, and I also don’t see much possibility for relationship development in BOO considering Nico’s going off with Reyna and Hedge).

“So, this is meant to be a representation of you?” Nico asks, holding up the figurine. When Leo nods, he quirks his lips in an amused smile. “You see yourself as a dragon?”
“I—” Pausing, Leo blinks and feels heat rushing to his face. “W-well, of course! What else would I be?”
Nico thinks about it for a moment, then shrugs. “If we're talking about animals, you seem more like a rat to me.”
“A rat?”
“Hear me out,” Nico says, trying to act serious despite failing to hold back giggles. “You’ve got the pointy ears and you’re clever, resourceful, in unexpected situations. That’s not a bad thing, right?”
“Shut the fuck up. Oh my god.” Leo hides his head in his hands, mind reeling as he reconciles with the knowledge that this apparently is how Nico perceives him. “I can't believe you broke through my window and came into my dorm room just to call me a fucking rat—”
Laughing openly now, Nico peels away Leo's hands, takes in the comically offended look on his face, and bumps their shoulders together lightly. “I’m kidding, Valdez. The dragon is really cool,” he says, voice soft as he glances down again, tracing the edges of the carved wood with his finger.

Hi, hello. Nico? What sort of interactions did you and Leo have for you to come to these conclusions about his character? What side adventures were y’all on that the narration didn’t include? When did you catch him being sneaky? When did you see him be noble? What happened here man, I need to know??
