Id like to come back and say that Jagex did in fact restore my account out of the blue nearly 10 years exactly to the day that my main was nuked. I have my childhood account back!

Sadly, Ive moved so far beyond that account that it looks like a noob in comparison. But I have my boy back

on the subject of bots, runescape had literally the best way of dealing with their botting problem:

if an account was detected using bot software, they would be instantly teleported to a hearing from a witchfinder general style npc, where other players could watch and throw rotten tomatoes at them. then the audience could vote on how the person on trial would be killed as punishment, and THEN the botter was permanently banned afterwards. it was the funniest shit ever

Except for the fact that my original account must have at some point gotten hacked during my inactivity and coming back to the game 5 years later I have NO way of appealing a botting offense. So my 10+ years of playing was most likely deleted in front of a shitty jury of jeering kids as I had no way of speaking out for myself. So, there’s that.
