Easter fundraiser for kids to help animals! Presented by FARS 🐱🐶

Your child(ren) can wake up Easter morning to a yard full of candy & toy-filled Easter Eggs from the Easter Bunny himself!

Several volunteers of FARS will be out and about to bring a smile to your kid(s)' face with the happiest surprise Easter morning - or any other morning before Easter! Eggs will be filled with candy and toys for them to hunt and enjoy!

Below is the number of eggs you can order along with a jumbo egg filled with extra goodies! Our founder, Brooke, will be in contact with you to confirm things and ask additional questions.

Bonded moms' looking for a home TOGETHER!

You may recognize Lola (grey, 3 years old) and Tigerlily (tuxedo, 7 years old). They were adopted in adopted in early 2021 and sadly returned at no fault of their own. These two beauties were taken in by us in 2020 when we first started FARS. Lola had one kitten and Tigerlily was surrendered to us with her 6 kittens AND 3 of her older kittens that were about 4 months old.

With Tigerlily’s age and with the number of litters this girl has had, she didn't have a lot of milk so with the guidance of our vet and taking all the proper protocols, we placed the two moms together so Lola could help nurse. Since then, they've been inseparable! Here's the thing. Lola is great with everything (unsure of hyper dogs). Tigerlily? Poor girl has some trauma. She fears men, kids, and dogs. Frankly, we are hoping for a single lady or a lesbian couple that would love these two!

We've had so many people only want Lola but, we refuse to separate them. They're best friends. Tigerlily needs Lola to be confident. PLEASE help us find these girls a loving home! A quick share can go a long way!

Little Miss Inky is ready to find a forever home!👻

Inky is the last of the "PAC-man" litter looking for a place to call forever. Her siblings Clyde, Dot, and Blinky have their places to call forever. We thought she would also but sadly the adoption fell through🥺

Inky needs a home with another cat - if you don't have one she is in the foster with Penny, Charles, Smokey & Polly - she does amazing with all of them.

Inky can be hesitant with strangers and will need time to come around. She mainly loves to play - she is a baby! And being around the other cats.

Please no dogs or smaller kids.

Handsome boy Smokey is still looking for his forever! He's looking for a calmer household without dogs or younger kids that will give him time to adjust. Once he does he loves to play and lounge around. Do you know what would be great? A home with another cat friend or to be adopted with one of my siblings! ADOPT!

We've been working hard behind the scenes to determine the best path forward for Gunner! We recently went on a field trip to MedVet Indianapolis to see a specialist/surgeon. Dr. Ball - based on physical examination and more x-rays - did not see any surgical options or any explanation for why he can't walk. She recommended water therapy, laser therapy, and acupuncture and put us in touch with a neurologist colleague. This past Monday, Gunner went on another field trip to MedVet Commerce/Detroit for a consultation with a neurologist. Gunny had normal reflexes during the physical exam, but the neurologist said this: "A possible neuropathy or myelopathy has to be considered given the history (hit by car). The only way to fully evaluate for both neuro problems and orthopedic problems would be an MRI of the spine and a CT Scan of the pelvis." Which brings us to this: MRI and CT Scan = $3,500 to $4,500 (see pic of estimate below) 12 water, laser, acupuncture sessions (may need more) = $575 MedVet Detroit (neurology office visit) = $128 MedVet Indianapolis (office visit and x-rays) = $267 South Suburban Animal Hospital (bowel blockage) = $1,341 TOTAL = $5,800 to $6,800 Thanks to our generous community of donors and people who shared, plus our Super Bowl Squares fundraiser, we've raised about $2,100. We are a very small rescue group, and, until we plant a money tree in the backyard, we don't have a large savings. What comes in goes right back out to help homeless animals. Please continue to donate (none is too small!) and share so that we can move forward with Gunner's treatment plan ASAP and ensure we can help the next cat who comes along. Oh, and Gunner has been given a middle name. It's "Worth." Gunner Worth. Because we realize this is a ton of money to spend on one creature, but every life matters and he's more than "worth" it! (He continues to be a silly, happy boy who rolls over for belly rubs, gives love, purrs up a storm, attacks feet under the blankets, bats at the fishing pole toy, and eats like a pig. Brooke here! I wanted to share an awareness video as today is CH awareness day! Opal here is one of my personal cats and not up for adoption - she is 1 of 4 that I have that are special needs.

CH stands for cerebellar hypoplasia is a non-life threatening condition that occurs when the cerebellum does not fully develop in kittens while in utero. The cerebellum is the portion of the cat’s brain responsible for fine motor skills and can affect the cat’s ability to walk, jump, run, or accomplish other tasks involving coordination and spatial recognition.

Cerebellar hypoplasia is generally not a well-known condition and can, therefore, be mistaken for other diseases by veterinarians who have not previously encountered the condition.

FARS is NO-KILL unless medically necessary. We provide food, shelter, medical treatment, and our animals are in loving foster homes until they find a perfect forever home. We do not receive any state or federal funding and rely on support from the community to help homeless animals.

Our mission is to provide temporary and long-term shelter and vet care for homeless dogs and cats. To promote animal welfare education, reduce the overpopulation with a mandatory spay/neuter program, promote adopting vs buying from a breeder, provide necessary veterinary care, and we value our “no-kill” policy unless medically/behaviorally necessary. Every animal deserves a chance.

Meet Alexandria! This sweet girl is ready to find a home! Will that be with you? Want a big sweetheart who loves everyone? She’s the one for you! She’s always purring and making bread. Alexandria was born on April 5th, 2021 along with her sisters Olive & Shiva (who are both a lot smaller and not ready yet). Now Alexandria is looking for a very special home. Why? Because she has tested positive several times for Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (which simply means that her immune system isn’t as strong as a “normal” cat’s) but she can live with other cats as long as they get along since FIV is only transferred through deep bite wounds. She is AMAZING with other cats & ok with kids. She is used to laid back dogs that aren’t in her face. ADOPT!

Feeling lost & not yourself is never a fun journey. You can ask yourself over & over how did I get to this point in my life? Do you ever find an answer? I don't.

I haven’t been myself & I know being in a flare is part of the reason. I don’t always like posting about what is going on with my RSD because there is always that one person that thinks I do it for attention. More like education for others to understand me & what I deal with.

But today I did a cat rescue & took him back to the shelter & I just got this overwhelming feeling. Was it anxiety? I don’t know. All I know is I didn’t like the feeling. I love what I’m doing…. why did I feel like that? Is it because I’ve been gone for so long? I’ve missed my fur babies so much & have been dying to go back but I know it’ll take time.

Being someone that is strong I take change well and I don’t get freaked out easily. I miss the days where I had things under control. Where I felt like my life was together & I was finally figuring things out. But now…..I just have been feeling lost.
