Our First Confirmed Event!

Hi all!

We are SO excited to announce a couple of great pieces of DashCon 2 news!! In between clownposting we’ve been working hard in the wings to make DashCon 2 a success. 

First up, we’d like to unveil DashCon 2’s first confirmed piece of programming! The team is very proud to announce that we are partnering with LVLUP GAMES, a wonderful GTA board gaming café, to host an all-day games room! They’ll be running a board game library with tables aplenty. For the TTRPGers - bring your dice! You might meet some like-minded folks interested in snagging a table for a one-shot.

LVLUP Games has been a great meeting space for hobbyists in Mississauga for years now. (We can’t tell you how many of our friends head there every week for their MTG Nights and miniature painting sessions.) Definitely go and give them some love - and tell them we sent you! We’re so grateful to be partnering with them.

I love when trauma makes characters messy. I love when characters don't know how to show love. I love when they lash out. I love when they're vile and break down. I love characters who aren't perfect victims. I love when stories don't excuse behaviour but allow you to understand it

big fan of characters who have it all under control when theyre put in situations but no idea how to be like a regular guy doing regular stuff when all is said and done.

im aware this is an insane thing to say but i fucking. love characters that are just cockroaches. and i dont mean like. gross i mean they just do not fucking die. they can survive anything. they will outlive EVERYONE because they just will not die no matter what be it because they have a reason or because they literally cannot stop surviving the odds i love it i love it

basically I think that if your protagonist doesn’t want to fuck someone so bad it makes them look stupid, then there probably isn’t enough energy in your story. “Fuck someone” isn’t literal btw—they can want to uncover the secrets of their parent’s death, they can want to prove their worth, they can want a donut from one particular bakery—it can be anything so long as they want it so bad that they’ll make decisions that make any sane person go “are you a moron??”, with little to no forethought, or even tons of forethought and this is still the option they chose. Because they want to fuck that thing so bad.

one of my favorite things to do in limited perspective is write sentences about the things someone doesn't do. he doesn't open his eyes. he doesn't reach out. i LOVE sentences like that. if it's describing the narrator, it's a reflection of their desires, something they're holding themselves back from. there's a tension between urge and action. it makes you ask why they wanted or felt compelled to do that, and also why they ultimately didn't. and if it's describing someone else, it tells you about the narrator's expectations. how they perceive that other person or their relationship. what they thought the other person was going to do, or thought the other person should have done, but failed to. negative action sentences are everything.

what i've learned from my attempts to be more active in discords and other online communities is you just have to show up and participate in conversation and even if youre a little annoying or awkward eventually people will grow a fondness to you out of familiarity alone
